Retro News & Chat / Re: NEW ATARI STe game port “FROGS”
« on: November 25, 2018, 07:11:19 AM »
Cool.  Will this work on the XEGS?
This one is a pure 16Bit Port for the ST. The original 8Bit Version by Christian Gleinser runs on the C64. Maybe the game gets ported to other platforms as well? Lets see! :)

Yes. Even this is a 100% new GFA Basic code, I am consulting closely with Dr. Wuro. In fact he plans to redo his own C64 SID Tunes for the ATARI ST Version in a YM SNDH version. This will come with the full download release.
Just two days ago he played the ATARI STe Version for the first time on real hardware in the ANARCHO Ride Laboratories ;)
And he was very interested in how the AI Frogs are controlled, as the C64 version does not have this feature as for now. ;)

Looking into the Future it is very likely that there will be a physical release. And if everything goes as planned, it will be FROGS for STe + another brand new ST multiplayer game (!!!!) + the ST4PLAYER joystick adapter in one double feature box.
Keep fingers crossed!

The time has come - First teaser version is ready for download!
Have fun!

The C64 original is a blast! A real party cracker! It was just released in 2017 as a 4 Player game. You can even get it with a cartridge that holds the game and adds two additional Joystick Ports to a C64.
It is giving me a hard time to keep up with my ATARI STe Version!

Homebrew Chat / NEW ANARCHO Ride V1.04 - New Horizons OUT NOW

ANARCHO Ride V1.04 – New Horizons
The time has come for a bigger ANARCHO Ride Update for the ATARI STe/Falcon! “ANARCHO Ride - New Horizons” brings… well… new horizons! One thing that was always missing in ANARCHO Ride was a proper horizon projection. Now it is here! And it comes with Expansion Pack 2! New tracks mainly made during the OFAM2016 ATARI Party. And this will be a growing expansion pack… Hopefully while visiting more ATARI Parties I get more inspirations for more craziness!

And there is even more! Laserball has a new language update! Czech! And ANARCHO Ride is expected to get a Czech version as well very soon!
UPDATE: Czech Version is online now!

ANARCHO Ride is reaching out for the horizon… of course it will never make it there… 
This is one thing that always bugged me: I did not find a solution to project a horizon background without a massive impact on the framerate.
Until NOW!
ANARCHO Ride V1.04 is COMING SOON and it will feature horizon Graphics!!!

To be fair: it is still all done in GFA Basic… so the framerate is in fact affected. But in an OK range. After all there is a hell of a lot more happing on the screen. But having the Chiptunes running while driving, has a much greater effect than the horizon projection.
Still searching for new Ideas and/or collaborators for a new Expansion Pack – Ideas/Graphics/Music!

Introductions / A late "HELLO!" from me ;)
« on: September 03, 2016, 12:02:47 PM »
Hi! I am a member for some time already. But now I realized that actually never properly introduced myself in this forum.
I am Thomas. I am from Austria/Europe.

And I am the creator of the new ATARI ST(e) games LASERBALL 2015 and ANARCHO Ride. (I wanted to add – awesome – great – brilliant – … but… hmmmm… ;) )
And as I like others to find my games I tryed to find as much ATARI/Retro communities as possible.

So here comes my history:
The ATARI ST was my first computer back in the day, and when my parents bought it, they wanted me to have a serious computer, not a “stupid game machine”. So as mostly in the German speaking territories, I got my ST with a monochrome high-res screen. And guess what: Without anyone else having and ST and a Monochrome Screen not really great for games, I started to program my own stuff on that damn thing.
Ok, later I got myself a colour monitor. And I continued coding… But time passed by and I switched to the PC World. I lost my interest in coding and lived on my live.

Until 1014.

I was playing around with emulators and started to read out my old floppies. And there it was: My 1991 game “Laserball”. Full of bugs. Full of copyrighted graphics. No Music. Only a few levels. And a hard to understand gameplay. No Fun.
But it was enough to get back my attention. And I carried on, where I left off almost 25 years ago. I made it bigger and better. I kicked out the copyrighted graphics and added Music. I made it a brain-cracking Puzzle game. Lots of fun!
And in 2015 I boxed it for other ATARI Fans to have even more fun.

Just at the moment when I thought “that’s it!” I stumbled over another code fragment from 1990. It was not even a game. It was a mathematical experiment. It was a moving street. Nothing else. But again I could not stop myself.
I realized very early, that I can never make my “moving street” into a game that could keep up with the classics of the genre. So I decided to go a different path: I made it the opposite of a racing game. It is – as written in the review of MAGGIE 25th - “a racing game to end all sensible racing games.“
Pure fun. No reason.

In other words: I made too games that could hardly be any more different form each other.
When I list the technical specs of the games – Level management, Expansion Packs, own script language, graphical level editor, dynamic file linking… some have a hard time to believe that all of it was only done in GFA Basic. The only language that I ever mastered on the only system that I ever mastered.

So have fun playing my games.
They are free!

Btw: I enjoy every question, game review, (YouTube) video or game comment ;)

Hi! Intersting question.
Let me add my thoughts from the other end - creation of Laserball and ANARCHO Ride.

I personaly dicided to publish Laserball and ANARCHO Ride als a free download. I simply assumed that nobody would pay for a game-download for these old computers. However I made the boxed version of Laserball and it found roughly 40 fans that actualy purchased a copy! I was very happy. I did not expect that much. And it covered my cost of producing the boxes... nothing more.

Making ANARCHO Ride into a boxed version is simply impractical... it would need 3 DD Floppys per Box... hard to get these days.

I still think giving Laserball/ANARCHO Ride for free to the communety, was a good decission. It now has some several hundred downloads and I got some nice feedback. If fans would have to pay for a download I assume it would be considarably less downloads... even if I would ask for €5 (what I would consider a fair price for a game like that) and 100 Fans would pay and download it would only make a total of €500 - that simply would not make sense...
I prefered to go for the fun and not for the money. Stil happy with my decission.

Side info: On the ANARCHO Ride Expansion Pack download page I ask for the old "PD-Logic": get something extra, send some money ;) . I got beathtaking €5 from an ARATI FAN!!! That is the total! :)

Homebrew Chat / ANARCHO Ride - New Expansion Pack BREXIT
« on: June 26, 2016, 20:15:47 PM »
I made a quick special for all British ANARCHO Ride Fans.
It´s the Expansion Pack BREXIT! It holds a single ride: „REFERENDUM“
Perfect for either celebrating or crashing out your frustration – depending on what side you have voted for!
But what ever side you are: be prepared for a bumpy ride with unexpected turns and corners! And you are running out of fuel rapidly! Crash £ to refuel!
There are two quests coming with the ride. You guessed it: “Leave” and “Stay”. And they both have the same outcome: you can win nothing, but loose a lot! ;)
Have fun!
(Side note: there is a V1.03 also ready for download that fixes a minor display problem for the BREXIT Expansion Pack)

Just preparing the technical specifications instructions… :)
