Anything else people recommend to get?

Other Systems / Colecovision Pal console - Av mod

It looks like I've acquired a pal Colecovision with wheel and 8 plus games.

I hate RF output so will probably do a composite video mod. It looks straight forward with a mod kit as the solder pads look easy enough to mount too. Anyone else do it? Pic will be posted once it arrives.

There great to see. I wonder how many families got rid of their cardboard Atari boxes on purchase.

Galaxians, Joust, Crystal Castles, Moon Patrol are my favorites.

I'm sure I've got a couple of boxes not on that list- Like Klax. Hes after some hi res scans uploading.

I would love one but really need a Coleco first. As a system it's quite rare in the U.K. Ive always liked how powerful it was as an first gen console.

I thought it was going to be an Atari system on a chip hack. The RPI zero is a lovely micro pc, I've just used one as a clock for my extension coupled with a pimoroni scroll phat HD module that connects to the Gpio pins.

Stella seemed to run fine whenever I used a Raspberry Pi in the past.

TrekMD - I love your love for homebrew carts, they do seem to get more professional each year.

In fact I recently picked up Protector/Yasi for the Vectrex, two great homebrew games - A quick video of it running on my Vectrex is below.

I also picked up a DivMMC cart for the Spectrum. Its from @futureis8bit and its jumperless, works on pretty much every spectrum and includes a Kempston joystick interface.

Good job I haven't got an Everdrive MD, Turbo Everdrive 1.2, 161-1 MVS cart, Super Everdrive and a NES 40-1 - Ohh wait I have.

I do have lots of original carts so I don't exclusively use the Everdrive's.

Also what's the cost to replace a Megadrive/Genesis console, or Snes or NES via the money saved on expensive or unobtainable games? Ive got at least 4 MD's, a couple of NES's, 3 Snes's and even two MVS motherboards.

Interesting read but some consoles biggest issues are with old unstable power supplies, caps that need replacing, damaged edge connectors, faulty carts and previous modifications.

Atari Chat / Retron77 - Hyperkins take on an Atari mini
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:59:15 AM »
With the Atari box and this, its safe to say the Atari VCS is still going strong.

I'm not always the biggest Hyperkin fan, though I do own a few of their consoles.

HDMI, 9 Pin Joysticks and USB Support for other controllers, this could be decent. Consoles live and die on their joysticks, and the controllers i've got for the Retron 3 and 5 are poor.

This was pinched from an AA poster but very valid - lets hope that:
1.  Plays near 100 percent of library including harmony cart and homebrews.
2.  Cart port that can accept all third party cart designs.
3.  sound and color accuracy
4.  System durability

Retro News & Chat / Re: AV mod for Atari 2600/7800

I managed it ok on my 7800, there are guides for the 2600 Woody, 2600 Junior and 7800. If you do buy it, pay the extra for the wires to be pre-installed.

The guy is also on twitter @futurewas8bit

This looks loads better than the NES version and very close to the original arcade game. Significantly better than the original 7800 version but I guess that port was rushed in 1984.

Definitely, The exclusive games and the fact reset button allows you to get to the menu are all pluses.

I've still not got an Vectrex multi cart. This does look great. Where's the best place to register interest TrekMD?

I didnt remember how awful the EA music was, wow it's like a chorus of male Tom cats singing for their supper. I'd go Tengen purely for that reason. I want to now play it with unlimited lives. This is one game that lots of the conversions are decent too.

Other Systems / Re: The ugly face of ColecoVision

For the last thirty years fans, modders and home-brewers have been keeping these systems relevant. Just because someone purchases some loosely linked logos doesn't make them "Coleco", Atari or anyone else. The takedown notice via Facebook is just bullying by a brand troll. What's more important to the Colecovision name? Licensing a plastic emulator to a hw manufacturer or something truly amazing like the coleco super game module. The most successful platform holders embrace the market by keeping the creators close, which in turn develops that brand. 40% of something large is always better than 95% of something small.
