A little DK action!

Enjoy. My end score on that game turned out to be just under 90k. I died a couple of times early as I was standing at an awkward angle with the camera recording and so I miscalculated some jumps :-(

But I also had some luck and the randomness of DK is what keeps players coming back! :-)

Here's a brief review of a Pac-Man arcade cabinet, some history, and game play. Recently I happened to buy out a former arcade operator's arcade game board collection and so this also gave me a chance to begin reviewing a variety of games with short videos. Nothing fancy, just unrehearsed single cut videos for fun.

Retro News & Chat / White Galaga Restoration
April 10, 2016, 03:03:38 AM
Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on the site here as much as I'd like and I would have liked to contribute more content or videos. Here though is an arcade restoration I've just completed. It's a rare white Galaga that I totally redid with wood work, electronics, game PCB fixing, monitor repair, artistic painting, repainting, repairing all kinds of stuff... It's a blast to play!

I won't go over all the details unless people are interested, but here are a variety of photos of the finished game, some before and after pics, and the game finally placed in the arcade.

Galaga is a classic. White Galagas are factory converted Bosconians with Galaga art over the Bosconian art... and since I have a Bosconian, I sought one out for a matching pair. It took me quite some time to find this. It was left in a storage unit with over 208k plays on the counter (this thing earned some money back in the day!). It now has a new lease on life.

I can still smell the pizza when playing Galaga from back in the day. Let's keep those memories alive. :)

Enjoy

Arcade & Pinball Chat / Vietnam Arcade Photos
September 27, 2015, 16:18:18 PM
Here are just a few photos from a side street arcade in Saigon. I also have some video and more photos of a much larger and newer Chucky Cheese style arcade in Danang that is maybe the largest operating arcade I have been to anywhere including ones I saw in Japan. It has a 3d motion seat theater, lot of arcade games, bumper cars and different attractions.  I will post those later. Just on a layover back in the States now. The pinball style games shown can pay out money depending on how well you do.

I had some people over and in my Street Fighter corner of the arcade we played pretty much most every major version of Street Fighter including Street Fighter 2 Pinball.

Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Ultra Street Fighter IV!

Shown is gameplay on a Japanese Capcom Impress game cabinet.

Hi Everyone,

Here's a walk-around video I made recently in Berlin at the Computer Spiele Museum. Lots of retro consoles and computers and arcades are on display with playable exhibits. It's a blast from the past!

You can also check out their website: http://www.computerspielemuseum.de.

Hi,

The Atari 5200 was my first ever console. I didn't realize it at the time, but when I chose the username "ArcadeAction" for this and other forums, it had a deep connection to my gaming roots. On the initial 5200 flyer that is included with 5200 games there is the stylized text "Arcade Action" next to Pacman (my first ever game) and some others. This text is also styled really large on the box of the Atari 5200 Trak-Ball controller box.

If possible, I'd like to get a high resolution scan of the Trak-Ball controller box (really just the area on front with "Arcade Action". I'm then going to blow this up large and make it into a sign for my 25 game home arcade room. It will be especially meaningful to me. If anyone could scan or point me to a high resolution file of this it would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Here's a video of this past weekend at the JAX Arcade Expo 80s party with lots of lights and rocking 80s tunes. It was "The Cure" for anyone missing the glory days of the arcade. Collectors brought in lots of games and funds taken in for the tickets go to a good charity. I brought a Bosconian. Enjoy!

Here are photos of my arcade in progress. It's been a lot of work this past year and half (sanding, painting, finding parts, creating graphic design, electrical work etc.), but the goal is almost realized. I'll be putting up additional artwork on the wall, and each of the games have original arcade flyers I just need to mount on top. I finally have the real arcade machine for all of the games I owned as a kid on a home Atari system, and an original game with box to put on top of each as well. Time for some Arcade Action!

This is from '03, but it shows photos of a Vectrex system's main boards installed inside the back of a woodgrain TV. The Vectrex uses the TV as its display.

I've always kind of wanted to do that. I'd then make large overlays and put it in a standard size arcade cabinet custom made.

Introductions / Hi Everyone
February 25, 2015, 03:18:16 AM
Hi Everyone,

I met TrekMD this weekend at an arcade show and learned about this great site while we played the mighty Vectrex!

The first console system I owned was the Atari 5200. I still remember my highscore on Pacman from all these years: 647,960! My friends all seemed to own different consoles and computers so that was great as I got introduced to 2600, 7800, Sega Master System, NES, Intellivision, Colecovision, C64, Apple, Atari computers, IBM PC Jr, Macintosh, DOS etc, etc, and so on through today.

I bought my first computer after saving up my paper route money for 17 months - sometimes in as cold as -40 below fahrenheit weather! But it was worth it.

These days I put much of my time in the retro hobby on restoring arcade machines. I probably enjoy listening to other peoples' experiences with console games and the old arcade scene as much as anything.

I can still smell the pizza when playing Galaga from back in the day... let's keep those memories alive!
