Decided to try the latest version of Puppy (Slacko_6.3.0, to date) and although a lot of the setup looks similar to Tahr_6.0.5, this is a completely different beast. There are major graphical differences that drastically improve this OS..but also cause a driver problem for the Dell Inspiron 1100. It's covered below under Repair graphics: 8) )
Click the 'Update database' tab
Click Update now
Press [Enter] at each prompt to complete
Click OK

Wasn't having much (hardly any-see Remmina below) luck installing programs from the Puppy Package Manager. There's Slickpet, which is like the Quickpet menu from Tahr_6.0.5 but has substantially less to choose from. Here's a link to an index of files for Tahr that will work with Slacko:
Skype (skype-4.3.0.37.sfs):
[spoiler:1a6brhkx]Download and click to install
Click Run when installation is complete
Follow the prompts to setup, then click Skype-Options and on the General tab tick "Start Skype minimised in the system tray"
Click Apply-Close
To run at startup:
Open File at the upper left corner of the desktop
Open Startup
Right click somewhere and choose New-Script
Name it skype and click Create
Right click on skype and select 'Open As Text'

Dropbox:
[spoiler:1a6brhkx]Download and click mydbox-1.2_noarch.pet
After installing a box tells you it's in the Internet category of the Menu
Another box, "MyDbox user choice" asks to run as root or spot. I went with root.
Next box requests you to choose your architecture. 32 or 64 bit
MyDbox starts downloading
Enter login info when Dropbox Setup window appears
To start Dropbox on boot:
Right click the icon by the clock
Click Preferences and make sure there's a check by "Start Dropbox on system startup"
(It's checked by default)
If you're running low on room, right click the 'cylinder' icon by the clock and choose to expand personal space by however much. I went with the max of 4,096mb to test it out.
NOTE: The resizing process will take a while after rebooting (like 20 minutes 8)[/spoiler:1a6brhkx]
