Arcade & Pinball Chat / Re: Any Arcade owners?

I can probably take some - but its pretty much a table someone made me that I put a PC and a monitor inside :)

I did think of making a "streamline" one - that uses a flat panel monitor. Cos its somewhat large but i never got around to it.

Retro News & Chat / Re: Why do you keep retroing?

A lot of the attraction I think is because games these days have gone a little stale.
Not just because of microtransactions I don't think but also because developers dont want to take risks.
Release another incarnation of the same game or try something new. If the something now doesnt hit the spot then it doesnt cover costs. And shareholders are not happy.

Additionally I think theres way too much focus on making it bigger and prettier than the last one - before worrying about fun factor !

WRT to emulation not being true retro - I dont see why. Emulation is just a way to play it because either the original hardware is hard to find or prohibitively expensive or as has already been mentioned you can only dedicate so much space to hobbies !
Dont see why it matters how you retro - however it works for you. Just as long as you have fun !!

Ive got a Robotron machine. Its still got the original boards in but when they died I cheated and fitted a PC. I should maybe look into getting the originals refurbished or something.

Ive also got an Addams Family pin

Finally ive got a home made coffee table with a PC inside running mame. This was in the living room for years but was relegated to a bedroom when it hardly got played.
(You can buy flatpacks for both coffee tables, bar tops and uprights quite readily now on flea bay).

I have a hankering for another pin - as a project but even ones that fit into "project" category are going for £600+ :
(And of course they take up a lot of space)

I'm also in the middle of constructing a virtual pin - which I started to try and scratch the aforementioned "I want another pinball" itch :)

I keep promising myself to visit more but then forget  :-[

I'll put a better effort in - every little helps right ?

There are indeed a lot of topics and subtopics - but is this is the really reason for lack of activity though.
Looking down the list all subsections have activity this year. But possibly this is a little misleading.
Looking deeper again in retro console for example at a glance all subtopics have activity here too.
However a closer look at the last post in each shows they are not as busy as it seems.
Using the last post and counting those this in 2018 we see:
Atari - lots.. a page full in fact !
Coleco 4 topics.
Mattel 3 topics
NEC 2 topics
Nintendo 9 topics
Sega 14 topics
SNK 2 topics
Xbox 6 topics
Other 8 topics

Could look in the other areas and maybe trim them - but its hard to say wether or not this will promote activity.

Dont think so. 2017 is about the best there is date wise.

Retro News & Chat / Toejam and Earl - Back in the groove
September 24, 2016, 08:08:43 AM
Amazed this doesnt seem to be mentioned on here anyway !

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1578116861/toejam-and-earl-back-in-the-groove

Im a bit of a TJ+E fan so I backed it a while back. Looks like it might be similar enough to be Toejam but different enough to be different (if that makes sense)

Juno First was the last game I played in MAME. Love the sound FX :)

Id be up for some retro high score challenging... probably have to be an emulator though. (Even my robotron has a PC inside since the motherboard died a few years back :S)

Can do Addams Family without an emu.

I do have an amiga and ST in the loft but not sure if they work, how easy it would be to connect to a modern monitor etc etc

also

Thinking about it I have a bunch of the old XBLA games (pacman, galaga).. And ive also got a whole bunch of games setup to run from steam on my gaming PC.

Might be kinda cool to do 2 games at a time - a well known class and a 'hardly anyone has every heard of it' classic

I thought the 360 version to be well underrated. The single player was certainly better than average, but in multiplayer it had stuff that virtually no other 360 games did.
32 player, tons of modes, tweakable bots and settings..

Some games have been [s:3svjtn39]crying[/s:3svjtn39] [s:3svjtn39]screaming[/s:3svjtn39] bellowing out for a remake.
Fortunately Grim is getting one :)

I bought a Lynx just to play Robotron. Then I replaced it - bought a Robotron just to play Robotron :D

Digger came out on PS3 a wee shortly back. Clearly a Mr Do ripoff. (I used to love Mr Do).

One of the other favorites of mine - I only ever saw it in one arcade in my yoot. It did come out on the BBC Micro too (called monsters)
