Hell yes!.

Back in the day lugged TV and 520STFM around to mates house, niether of us drove and he might have only been up the road, but felt like the longest of journeys.

We linked up the ST's for Falcon, Stunt Car Racer and Armour-Geddon.

Falcon was a blast dog fighting each other, Stunt Car Racer had the most playtime, but we struggled with Armour-Geddon-Link up worked, but we seemed to spend far more time reaching each other on the map, than auctual fighting per say.

PM sent regarding the ACE's.

Will indeed be checking out the 7800 VS Nes thread.

Even with the Exp.pack, frame rate took a massive hit when things got busy, SOTC seemed to suffer similar issues on PS2.

Both games i found benifitted being re-done on more powerful hardware.

Have that issue of ACE (well scan of it on DVD), crying shame the 7800 version never appeared, yet another what could have been.

Mind you, would that not be fair way of describing the 7800? system i'm only just starting to notice and is looking very capable in right hands.

Whilst there has been some fantastic pieces in RG of late and yes, they've done hardware feature on Atari:800XL, Jaguar etc in past (and they have to appeal to mass market etc), it's just so damn frustrating to see the A8+ST range over looked so often.

I know Amiga had superior versions of so many ST games in terms of colours, sound etc, but that does'nt mean ST version should be ignored (3D often faster) and i'd hope that magazine would be trying to broaded horizions, ie think you know:Dropzone, Encounter, Rescue On Fractulas, Elktraglide? then why not try the A8 versions.

Also showcasing the A8 homebrew would (hopefully) open peoples eyes to just what the hardware was capable of-All too often the A8 got poor conversions (Arkanoid, Green Beret), but from what i read at the time, A8 programmers thin on the ground (Firebird wanted to do Elite on A8, but could'nt find programmers), so RG has a chance to adress history here.

Not sure of the music on that vid, but blimey! that's ruddy impressive visuals for A8.

Had Rick D.on the ST-very much a marmite game-looked great, nice sense of humour, but by jingo, frustrating game to play.

Sadly never tried the ST version of Gauntlet 2, 4-Player sounds like a blast on ST.

My bad in my post above yours, i meant an Atari 8 Bit system, after all Gauntlet converted well to Nes and MS.

Since discovering the whole Homebrew scene, as it were, really been amazed at what folks managing to get out of Atari 8 Bit hardware, 1st Space Harrier, now this.

Feel the entire Atari 8 Bit range sadly so often ignored by likes of RG magazine  (as is the ST!) in favour of the same old formats and topics, so discovering threads like this are a god send.

Last ATARI version of Gauntlet i played was on the 800XL-on tape no less, took an age to load (if i was lucky, Boot error so close to loading each time really killed interest). At the time, having never played the coin-op, was taken in by the hype (and just glad to see a full price release on A8).

Will we ever see the game done justice on an Atari system? (not counting Gauntlet 3 on Lynx as that was something different).

Atari Chat / Re: Unreleased Atari Jaguar Games

TFX was CANNED on Playstation-Code just running too slowly plus developers struggled with getting control scheme onto PS Pad were reasons given if memory serves.

Seem to recal E.W.J on PS1 just being straight SNES port (at least MCd ver.had extra level) though been an age since i saw it-Hated game to be honest.

Freelancer Jag CD-Recal interview with developers in Gamesmaster mag, said Atari went into 'utterly Mental' mode, wanted lots of fast polygon 3D, texture mapping etc, to make it compete with PS/Saturn games, they then planned to 'upgrade' game for PS, but sadly nothing came of it.

AVP 2:Atari talked of concepts of it using the V.R headset and Jaguar link up, in hands of right developer, could have been something special, would have said Rebellion, but after the PS3/360/PC AVP as well as PSP AVP games...NO!.

Anywho, superb vids.Dactyl Joust looked fantastic, gutted that never made it.

Perfect Dark seemed to be asking too much from N64.

Alien Res.On PS1 must have streched the hardware-Always hoped for a DC conversion.

Really impressed by GBA Medal Of Honour as well.

General Retro Chat / Re: The Konix Multi-System
October 29, 2012, 21:29:19 PM
Was an avid reader of ACE at the time (still have the mags) and the Konix really did look, in concept terms, years ahead of anything else at the time and a real gamers dream.

Wasn't till good few years after i 'encountered' it again, this time in form of video footage on Telegames video (What Videogame console? or something like that) and it had tech demo's of the boat racing game etc.

Was honestly very dissapointed, graphics were fast, but seemed like souped up ST/Amiga games.

Have to say the Slipstream website and feature in RG were just superb-Features like that WHY i subscribe to RG (not for the iOS game reviews!).

Will we ever see anything like it again i wonder? nowadays consoles seem out dated concept, it's all: All-in-1 media devices with anything you offer, so can i..(ie motion control, online gaming).

Sega Chat / Re: The Sega 32X
October 29, 2012, 21:22:09 PM
Speaking as a launch MCD owner, the 'failure' of the 32X really came as no surprise, yet another stop gap from Sega, desperate not to lose the MD user base. The MCD fiasco really should have set alarm bells ringing within Sega, by going the FMV route on hardware really NOT geared up to run it (only 512 colours, at best what 64 colours on screen?) whilst ignoring the rich potential of it's sprite handling custom hardware and 2nd CPU, to me showed utter lack of focus.

I did pick up a 32X few years back, once i'd set the monster up (what? another AC plug, cables here, there and all over!), enjoyed Virtua Starwars (though more jerky than i expected), but very let down by Metal Head. Huge Mech fan and whilst the texture mapping was nice, did'nt have the 'feel' of being in a towering bemoth death machine that Jag. Iron Solider had.

As for the rest of the games, seemed to go for silly money for the exclusives on Ebay, was'nt planning to collect for it, so soon got shot of it.

The MCD? blame the hype.....Video preview (VHS tape) given away with Mean Machines had it sold to me.

Selling of SOR 3-hated it, big let down after SOR 2, as for Snatcher? never saw what the fuss was about, played it again recently and....nope, still don't 'get it'.

I'll also add:Passing up chance to buy MINT copies of Saturn Deep Fear £50 and P.D.Saga £75 many years back, as i thought i'd wait until they dropped in price...
