Quote from: "RPC_GAMES"Hi AmigaJay, wow that's surprising. I would have thought due to the Acorn BBC model B in schools in the UK that
the Acorn machines would of dominated the UK market. Kids programmed them at school so I would have thought
that kids or parents would have bought them for home use as well but as you said, price always wins.

I studied computing on the ZX spectrum at high school. The school did have BBC B's (didn't they all?) but they did a poll on who had what computer then replaced the bbc's with the most popular.
The whole subject was then re-written around the spectrum.
And I thank whoever came up with the idea, as the previous years of typing in programs and learning to fix them helped me pass my exam with flying colours.  :66:

I voted Boulderdash as there's just more to it that your average arcade "digger".
If I had to pick another then it would be Mr Do! as it's way better than Dig Dug (which I like)!

Possibly one of the worst pieces of "art" I've seen. Certainly from a retro gaming perspective.
What a terrible image. It looks like he's done a random Google image search and thought "that'll do".
What's with the big orange cable at the back.
He's blurred out the names of Yar's Revenge & Pac-Man but left Skiing (in the console) readable.
Skiing's a decent game but it's not an iconic title worthy of an art print.

Only my opinion of course! :)

Sega Chat / Re: The Sega Dreamcast Thread
August 15, 2014, 22:34:52 PM
Quote from: "Ben"So to sum it up, what do I think killed the Dreamcast in the U.S.?
1. Lack of trust in Bernie Stolar and the U.S. vs. Japan management fight, as well as fear the console would die early (as happened with the Saturn, 32X and Mega CD).
2. Bad press, especially over 3dfx, who ended up going bankrupt, and Sega got a lot of blame for it.
3. Lack of a DVD player, as this was a major selling point to cash strapped teens and twenty somethings.

I'm curious to know if the situation was different in the UK, as I suspect it was.

For me, in the UK, none of those reasons applied.
1.Bernie Who??
2. 3dfx, never read anything about this.
3. Never needed a DVD player. I wanted a games console. This reason really gets on my goat more than any other.

It failed, I think, purely down piracy and zombified gamers who couldn't see past anything that had the word PlayStation in it.

Personally, I'm very disappointed in the list of games.

I know it'll be down to licensing issues but the majority of the Coleco's best games are missing.
For someone who doesn't know the system (or it's games) it doesn't give a very favourable (or accurate) depiction of how good the system was.

Only my opinion of course but from that list I'd only rate Choplifter, Cosmic Avenger, Miner 2049er, Montezuma's Revenge, Space Panic, Venture & Zaxxon as must-haves.

I think newer coinops require exact rom versions as well as exact quantities of roms for it to run.
You can't just stick roms in a folder and expect it to work.

A bit off topic but where's the best place to get free 2600 homebrew roms?
All this xbox talk has given me the idea to update mine. I haven't really tried any for the past 3 or 4 years.

Same here.
Coinops looks great but it's not necessary.
Not the "full" install anyway.
I think mine is 3 reignite and I also have final burn Alpha (as well as mamedox).

Here's a video of mine demonstrating Final Burn Alpha, PS1 and PC Engine.

For original games I would say the DS.
But as a machine,  I'd go for the PSP.
I use it all the time 99% for emulation.
I wanted a DS for zx spectrum emulation. And while the emulation was great
I found the day-pad to be terrible (DSi).
