Impossible Mission.  Love this game. I have it for my c64 and I have the updated version on the DS.  I bought a PS3 before Christmas and couldn't resist downloading it again from the PS Store.  The updated and original graphics look great on the big screen :)

Memories in 8-bit is now released as digital download. CDs should be in my hands soon :)

An old game on a new system: I was playing Impossible Mission on my PS3 this week.  This is the reboot of IM containing a reskinned version with added cutscene to go with the new graphics and modern front end, a combined old/new version and, thankfully, an 'almost' unadulterated original version.

Still a great game and still hard as nails. Looks great on a big TV, also works on my Vita and it plays nicely with the PS3 pad too.

£3.49 well spent :)

I've ordered the CDs for both albums.  I couldn't resist!  :16:

Retro News & Chat / New Retro Album - Memories in 8-Bit
January 18, 2014, 16:45:03 PM
I first found out about Liam Fretwell's music last year and I promptly bought a copy of his album 'Evolution (8-Bit Girl)'.  It's been a firm favourite on my iPod ever since.  I'm not sure if I posted on RVG already about it.  It's a superb collection of 8-Bit inspired music.

Here's the full track listing - Evolution (8-Bit Girl);
1. Back In The Day - 3:42
2. 1984 - 3:44
3. His Name Was SID - 10:09
4. Evolution (8-Bit Girl) - 04:04
5. ConsciousNES - 03:45
6. Continue? - 7:10
7. His Name Was SID (Radio Edit) - 4:32
8. Evolution (8-Bit Girl) (12-Bit Loading Screen Remix) - 11:44

There's a sample track here http://store.equinoxestudios.co.uk/album/evolution-8-bit-girl

I was pleased to receive an email this week announcing a new album so I thought it was a great opportunity to let you guys know.  The new album, Memories in 8-Bit, promises more 8-Bit inspired music and I for one can't wait to hear it.  It's available as a digital download but, excitingly,  there's a limited edition CD (50 units) and, very uniquely, a limited edition (20 units) cassette!  Very cool.   Again, there's a track, called 'Collision Detection', available to preview here http://store.equinoxestudios.co.uk/releases

Here's the full Track Listing - Memories in 8-Bit;
1.Electrical Pulses
2.In The Middle of a Dream
3.Peeks & Pokes
4.Out of Memory
5.R Tape Loading Error
6.Load,8,1
7.Dancing Sprites
8.Illuminated Destiny
9.Invade-a-Turbo
10.Collision Detection
11.Collision Detection (Radio Edit) 04:18

The track names tell you a lot of what you need to know about what you're going to hear.  Great production values and superb fresh sounding 8-Bit tunes.

Two I have fond memories of....

I think this was my first compilation.  Had some great games and some utter tosh

Another C64 compilation that again had a mix of great and garbage.  Was this the only charity compilation?

I still have an excellent Beau Jolly compilation that includes Elite, LoM, Starion and Paradroid.

In recent years the Midway and Capcom collections for PS2 etc have been brilliant.  And I've just remembered the Metal Slug Collection for Wii.  Great stuff :)

Quote from: "Crusto"It's probably LTTP for me, it woke me up to the series. That opening sequence, the rain, the music - it was so atmospheric and had me hooked straight away. It was a truly brilliant game.

I loved OOT to, lovely. And I found the sailing in wind waker to be really therapeutic.

As for skyward sword and twilight princess, for me they were ruined by the stupid wiimote, so I never gave them the time they deserved. I never did play Majoras mask.
I think the wiimote was the main reason I didn't stick with Twilight. I should probably try the GC version. Or can the Wii version be played with a Wavebird?

Ocarina of Time is my favourite.  I really enjoyed Link to the Past and Link's Awakening too so they're right up at the top too.

I never finished Wind Waker, so plan to get the HD remake at some point, and I didn't get very far into Twilight Princess either.

I was enjoying Phantom Hourglass but got distracted by other games  :-[

C64 version was brilliant.  At the time. I don't think it's aged well in terms of gameplay. Nice cartoony sprites though.

Quote from: "zapiy"I am confused with what you want to do bud. You will need the SD card with the software installed on it.

No getting around that from what i can tell you pal.

Correct, zap. The internal storage is far to small. Download the firmware, unzip and install all the files onto the ds card.  You can start playing right away!  Don't forget that you can add roms too!

Quote from: "markopoloman"My list (for you lot to say the same as me above  :)
1. Paradroid - great game and one that I almost included.
2. Delta - Didn't really grab me so I didn't play it much.
3. Impossible Mission - definitely top 10 and on a different day a top 5 game!  Fickle see.
4. Last Ninja 2 - another game I would in my top 10.
5. Monty on the Run - from what I remember this was great. Tight controls and great audio/visual.  I played it quite a bit, less than On The Run, and it'd probably be in my top 20-25.

Quote from: "Fin"So just thought i would share my top 5 games on the C64, see what others thought.

1. Flimbos Quest
2. Wonderboy
3. KP Skips Action Biker
4. Renegade
5. Shoot 'em up Construction Kit

Difficult to have 5 favourites on what is my favourite games machine and difficult, if not impossible, to criticise someone else's top 5 due to the many factors that influence our personal preferences.  Not least because of irrational memories of games we once loved.  Still, Action Biker!?!?  Loved playing it but I couldn't see it in my favourite games.  Flimbo is brilliant and SEUCK is a very smart piece of software. Not really a game though.  I personally thought Renegade and Wonderboy were both pretty poor.  I preferred The Speccy version of Renegade and Wonderboy on the MSX.

So, here are 5 games that, right now, at this moment, are my top 5....

1. Maniac Mansion
2. Suspended
3. WOTEF
4. MYTH
5. Bruce Lee
