Oh, that'd be cool!  Any game images?

Nothing just yet thats interesting. Just has 4 player support and you can move around and do the obvious. No real graphics other than line drawing at this point. Logic is all there and collision but thats about it. Needs some real graphics thrown into it and sounds and such.

Anyone interested in a tron lightbike type game for the jaguar? may try to finish it up if there is interest. Created this about a week ago and took about a day to get the preliminary stuff working on it (game mechanics)

Not much to see or be said about this other than that its purely a tech demo, a very basic one at that. Its also very old too

Well, its possible Carl could pick it up and finish if DML wants to let him do so, but something makes me think that the original programmer handing over source to a game they started but never completed a vision on and having someone else finish it might not sit well. I know if it were my project i would want it to be finished the way i had envisioned it originally. Its possible DML might be at a point where he doesnt care soo much about it anymore.

well,he's busy creating a new Jaguar CD bios for the SD cartridge.

Yah i saw that, its a great solution to ditching the cd unit all together as its high priced or hard to find unless you know where to get them. Ive never had problems with any of the ones i've owned other than typical laser issues which could be repaired easily if you are a hands on person that doesn't mind taking things apart. Most aren't however and just want it to work which i can understand.

My only problem with this would be piracy... Its a touchy subject for anyone but, i'm sure as reboot is just finding out now, people give ZERO Fucks morally when it comes to making a profit off of work that isn't there own. Its kind of something i've been saying for a while but i was told just to shut-up about it basically.  Obviously Storm Works and Reboot have our Major differences but one thing i think they are starting to see is what we were talking about for a while. Its now starting to surface and this kind of crap pushes devs away from making games and being more suited to
putting DRM like mechanisms into their software or be very closed off as to who gets content as a few want to profit from it (ride the coat-tails) by doing it illegally and without permission or consent.

Hate to say it but the SDCad with jag-cd bios will encourage more of this kind of thing as you are bringing more cd units to the masses so to speak. This means more copies of games being played that are cd based but... most aren't going to buy a physical CD anymore because its just not going to work, thus ripping ISOS to load onto SD card. This is where it gets VERY grey.....There is no control over where this image will get posted, its morally up to the person utilizing it not to do something like post it or sell access to it. Most will share them around freely as its easy to do at this point and its a common thing these days, but this basically screws the developer out of any sort of compensation for their time working to bring something to the system in the first place.

It may come down to etching peoples names and addresses into the game release and displayed on screen so that if its dumped you are publically shamed for it. Wouldnt hurt to hash the binary or program so that if someone tries to tinker with it, and change the name that it breaks the game and it wont load...

Anyhow...

/soapbox

Overall though, the sd card idea is a great solution. Long overdue, but has its drawbacks from a developer standpoint, but great concept overall.

Doubt it'll be finished, but you never know...
source exists still in the original programmers hands.

Awesome, I am def getting a Jaguar CD system this year. Not sure when but when I do I will grab this so cheers.

Jag-CD Is a great platform. More storage, FMV if you want it, not to mention i don't have to mess with pesky .mod files for music and can use CD Audio when developing.

You can pick up a re-furbished one in almost new condition from Best electronics. You wont get a box or games or anything with it. I believe.... for $139 USD or so (prices might be up to 170 now..) much better than paying for a junked one on ebay or a way over priced one.

It would be or even if someone completed them.  I think Songbird has a couple of these but they haven't said anything about releasing them.  I think they have the listed as Mystery Projects.

Not sure what Carl has anymore these days, im fairly certain one of them is Bomberman as the source was found to this on a CD-R in the original developers storage/garage i believe. I believe carl was in talks with the original dev/owner of the source. I tried to get a hold of the guy as well and shortly after to see if i could help in compiling or anything really, and all radio silence happened.

Not sure about any others, but FOR SURE, the source to bomberman does exist and is out there and has been recently discovered. Not sure where it goes from here though. It is supposed to be completed or about 90-95 percent there.

Awesome work fella.. How long did it take you to do that?

Ehh not too terribly long, but the thing is that when i bring maps in from heretic they are stripped of all textures. Re-texturing the map takes some time, which fortunately i already re-textured all the maps so far. The items that were
in the map had to be set to the correct ones since i changed what some items were in the game and some when the map were brought in were not matching anything that jag doom knew.

So as it sits now, i have up to E1M6 Working (Cathedral map). Modifications will need to be made to this map as it slows down a bit initially in the first room (church area).

Small update. I dug this out from where it was hiding and have an additional 2 levels working now. They need some optimizations but all texures are in and monsters and items. I think im up to map 6 out of a total of 9 for the shareware version of heretic.

Also went ahead and converted the ADLIB version of the soundtrack and optimized it a bit and now have tracks for the following levels.

TITLE
E1M1
E1M2
E1M3
E1M4
E1M5
E1M6
E1M9

Wont be able to get e1m7 or 8 music tracks in due to space constraints probably, but this might change if i do a massive cleanup and eliminate as much as i can that isnt need. not sure if i can come up with that much space though.

Also need to refine the music playing code so it works well and isnt spotty with looping music.

@Saturn

Here is what ive changed. I automated the build process a bit more and eliminated some steps for you.

It should compile and leave you with a running binary as DOOM.BIN

I modified the makefile a bit to clean it up and change a few things

You can type 'make clean'

which will remove all the .o files (object files) which are the .c files compiled to asm. It'll also remove
the .abs file (doom.abs) and also copy init.sav to init.o (create init.o). Init.sav is a hacked version of
init.s from matthias domin i believe.

Regardless of this i also included hexedit.exe in the LOADER folder which i use as a simple portable hex editor
to find the offset quickly and also put the 'LOADER' folder into the doom directory.

When you compile and run 'MAKE' in dosbox and it does its thing, it will automatically at the end copy doom.abs to the c:\jaguar\doom\loader folder for you. and also now it will automatically compile doom for you after running make.

At this point, once this is compiled, you then use the hex editor to find the 3rd 'IWAD' offset text in the binary
and then to the left, use that hex address of the line that its on and at open windows calculator in programmer mode and HEX mode and enter 802000 + iwad offset you found the 3rd iwad text listed at using hexedit.exe

This will give you your new offset where you will put into the jagonly.c for the I_Wadbase.

After editing jagonly.c go ahead and recompile by running 'MAKE in dosbox, This should then give you a useable doom.bin file in the LOADER folder to either load up in Project tempest emulator at $802000 address or you can flash it to the skunkboard at $802000 by running 'jcp -f doom.bin $802000'

Ill try to take a look at it tonight and get back to you with my process for getting it to work. There are quite a few steps and it assumes you have a few things in place.

It would be great if there was enough demand. I just don't hear much about BJL anymore on forums. I can't speculate with zapiy's money lol.
I'd be happy if he went full on into this (and made some money for the efforts). Not sure how to go about advertising the resource when no one ever mentions needing them.

Well, no one ever mentions it strictly because the first thing that everyone says is to get a skunkboard and then people quickly realize how much they go for and how they arent made anymore and havnt been any runs since the sillyventure run i believe.

So with that being said, its still a viable way to upload homebrew but, not ideal if you can get a skunkboard as it makes bjl useless at that point. Take a look at yourself though saturn, you just bought a few adapters yourself so that says something about there being some sort of a market for them, otherwise MTG wouldnt offer them at all.

So far however, im not in need of any adapters just yet but whenever i decide to push some BJL carts up to the site eventually which might be a small initial amount ill probably need a few cables as an option.

I'd like to get 7 total but whichever is more convenient for you. I'd take one or two no prob.
But, not sure what the demand is for them these days with the Skunkboard out there so buying in bulk might not work out. Could have a ton of product on your hands lol.
Nobody wants to lose money! :D

Well the reality is that not everyone has a skunkboard, and they are pricey to obtain for most these days ($250+ usually). New users are buying jaguars and dont have a way to play homebrews aside from making their own CDs to load them into ram and even then thats another costly jump to get a jag cd.

So bjl is very much still a viable option assuming the user has a true parallel port on a computer (usb stuff doesnt work i dont believe as it wont emulate an IRQ?)
