Retro News & Chat / Atari Pong Coffee Table
« on: March 14, 2017, 18:25:37 PM »
Just saw this Kickstarter for this very cool Pong table. It's licensed by Atari too.

Before anyone gets too excited I should mention the cheapest one you can get is $900, and that's an early bird price. They get much more expensive after that but if anyone is feeling rich it would be awesome to have. I wish them luck but that's a lot of money they're asking for!

There's a good article here that has a lot of info if anyone wants to know more.

The funny thing about this is that I learned about it from an email from Retro Magazine and Mike Kennedy. Apparently he's not scrapping the magazine and his online store is now an official retailer for Retro-Bit. If anyone wants to pre-order the console from him, you can do so here. I'm sure it will be available other places too if for some reason people would rather not order it from him ;)

Homebrew Chat / New Genesis/MD Game Papi Commando

I received an email from WM MGF about a new game that is available now.

You can order the game here. There's a regular and a limited edition. The limited edition comes with a clam shell case where as the regular just has the cover to put in your own case, like they did with their last release.

Good looking game!

I thought there was a thread about this game already but I couldn't find it. This is another homebrew game from Orion and it looks really good. It's available for both PS1 and Dreamcast and you can buy it here.

I saw a tweet from Orion earlier today and he said he needed to sell 70 more copies of the game before he breaks even and starts making money from the game. So, if you appreciate the work he did in releasing a couple Jaguar games and the work he continues to do with PS1 and Dreamcast games, help the guy out and buy a copy :)

Retro News & Chat / Nintendo Power Archive
« on: August 03, 2016, 15:05:50 PM »
This is pretty cool, every issue of the first 13 years of Nintendo Power magazine are now available online. You can read them all here and you can download them as a PDF too.

The only time I ever had a subscription was when they were giving away the Zelda Collection for the Gamecube as a bonus, so these will all be new to me. I have a lot of reading to do :)

Retro News & Chat / Mini NES
« on: July 14, 2016, 15:03:27 PM »

Nintendo has just announced the Mini NES, a plug and play console pre-loaded with 30 games. It's supposed to be out this November with a price of $60. Not sure what the price will be in other regions.

You can read more about it here and see the full list of games.

The controller that comes with it will also double as a Wii or Wii U controller for playing Virtual Console games on those systems and you can also use Wii and Wii U Pro controllers on the Mini.

Personally I think $60 for 30 games is a little expensive but I'm sure they will sell a ton of these this Christmas!

Retro News & Chat / Sega Saturn's DRM Cracked
« on: July 12, 2016, 19:28:30 PM »
Great new for Saturn fans, and it only took 23 years! You can read about it here . From my understanding the reason there is no real homebrew market for the Saturn is because of the DRM, so hopefully this gets people coding for it. Also the ability to load games from USB is very cool.

I'm not sure how long this site has been around for, but it's the first I've seen of it.

Neo Geo Museum

It's a pretty cool site that has a complete catalog of all games plus promotional advertisements and other info. If you're a fan of the system or just want to learn more about it this is a great resource!

Retro News & Chat / Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary
« on: June 23, 2016, 19:54:21 PM »

Yep, 25 years ago today the first Sonic game was released! Who else is feeling old?

Supposedly they are working on a new game, but considering the quality of the last few Sonic games I'm not going to get too excited!

There's a Humble Bundle available right now to celebrate if anyone is interested.

I still think the original 16 bit games are some of the best platformers ever made :)

Retro News & Chat / Dreamcade Replay on Kickstarter
« on: June 22, 2016, 17:19:57 PM »

Dreamcade Replay

I think this just launched today, and it sounds very cool! You can read all about it on the Kickstarter page, but basically it's a streaming/emulator box but you can also get the arcade controller or an all in one cabinet. It's expensive but it's running on Windows 10 and has a lot of functions.

I just saw this on AA, Beta Phase Games have announced they are going to start selling this game again. This isn't a limited run and according to the post they will continue making more copies as long as there is demand. The first run will be ready in about a week and if anyone wants a copy they can send an email to the address in the link below.

Here's the link to AA and here's the link to the Beta Phase Games site.

I just sent an email to get a copy :)

Homebrew Chat / ConnectedNES
« on: May 13, 2016, 18:27:13 PM »
Okay, this is just about the coolest thing ever! Some very bright people have created a modem of sorts that can be hooked up to an NES and allow a persons Twitter feed to display on the screen while playing a game.

You can read all about it here and there are videos showing it in action too. Very impressive work!

Retro News & Chat / Luchs Soft Newsletter
« on: April 28, 2016, 23:54:21 PM »
Thought I would share this for anyone who is not on the mailing list.

Hi Retrolizers,
A new Vectrex game is on the way!
It's a port of the A2600 Dead Of Knight programmed by
Jason Santuci. The game was published by Starship Films
and the Luchs Soft Vectrex Version is officially licensed.

There's a big difference this time between the older
Vectrex Luchs Soft releases, it doesn't have a Digipak,
it comes in a box!

Because I received much questions for preorders, I've
decided to open it in the Luchs Soft Shop now.

BRECHER, EINEIIG, FLAK and N.E.L.S. will be also re-released
in this box style.

Also I've decided to act as publisher for other coders
releases. It looks like, that there'll come another
Vectrex Game soon!
Stay tuned what's coming up next ;-)

New JagCD is also in dev. hopefully it will soon finished.
To tell the truth, 4 Games are in dev. at the moment for
JagCD ^^
Let's see if I can finish them all this year, press thumbs :-)

For BRENNBALL (Videopac) I'm still waiting for new Cartridges.
If you didn't heard it already, they were getting lost :-(
BUT we're working on it to get it released as soon as possible.
It's not forgotten!

Great news for Vectrex and Jaguar fans. Can't wait to find out what the four Jag CD games are!

Sega Chat / Sega Interactive Arcade Archives
« on: April 27, 2016, 17:25:32 PM »
Sega has created a interactive archive of all their arcade games and from what I'm reading this is the first time they have ever shared this info with the public.

Sega Interactive

You will have to use google translate and even then some of it will still be in Japanese but it's pretty cool looking through all the old arcade games :)

Retro News & Chat / THE 64 - Computer and Handheld Console
« on: April 14, 2016, 17:32:30 PM »
There's an IndieGoGo campaign that's just been launched for a new Commodore 64 computer and handheld!

There's lots of info and more pictures on the site and it says they are still working on which games will come included. Any C64 fans around here?
