Hmm, not sure about that. I think Wipeout would have made it rather obsolete unless they made major upgrades.

I absolutely smashed Stun Runner on the Lynx. What an absolutely superb game and IMO, more fun than the arcade version when playing at home.

Retro News & Chat / Re: Let's Compare: Contra

I like Contra, bit hard though. I remember playing the NES and SNES versions, still play SNES and they are great. The MD game is also supposed to be really good. The DS game, as retro as it isn't I guess is well worth a look.
The Gameboy version is really impressive.

I'm not really sure you are getting at here. Are you wanting more media to go into detail to tell you about what games to play?

Not sure how obscure it actually is but I rarely hear it mention. Tumblepop, an ace little single screen platformer.

It really is superb. It's 30fps, like the first Streets of Rage so it lacks the smoothness of other games but once you power through that it's ace. Uses 5 of the 6 buttons which really allows for a lot of move. There are around 30 techniques in total with is a hell of a lot for a game of this type, especially when you consider there are only 2 identical characters to control. You have to use them all too.

I forgot we had this thread...

I have been hammering scrolling fighters, as many will know from RG. The ones getting the most time lately are Streets of Rage 2, Return of Double Dragon and Turtles in Time.

Return of Double Dragon, despite being visually poor is one of the best examples of the genre. It feels so kinetic at times with the blocking/guarding mechanic in place.

In the coming weeks I will be playing Streets of Rage remake and King of Dragons when I have time. So much to choose from!

That could be quite fun, after a lot of alcohol.

Hybrid Heaven was a very unusual game. I remember sinking hours into it then just stopping one day. I will have to check it out again as I remember so little about it!

Absolutely. And he is certainly allowed to have any opinion he wants. I just used the example of why I take even developers opinions with a pinch of salt.  :1:

Back on topic.... well already answered that!

I didn't post a quote at all. I simply repeated what The Laird told me in conversation.
It may well  be that the Jaguar version has the nicest visuals etc. But if you cannot strafe and turn then it isn't the best version. Any Doom fan will tell you that.

Sega Saturn session the other night which included Dungeons and Dragons, Hyper Duel, Strikers 1945 and Tiger II Plus. Also had a dabble on Sega Rally to compare it to the PS2 version I have and despite being on a much weaker console, it still plays wonderfully well and looks nice.

Hyper Duel is a fantastic shooter. Proper old school and none of this bullet hell rubbish.

The roads in NFS were and still are very impressive.

Since when am I a Sony fan? Just because I have Playstation branded consoles. You need to get this 'fan' nonsense out of your brain.

And whoops, got the Johns mixed up!
