Homebrew Chat / Space Patrol for Intellivision
August 28, 2012, 17:17:36 PM
I thought it proper to share this.  Space Patrol for Intellivision will be re-released next month.  This has been described as one of the best homebrew games for the system and has been very hard to find since it was first released.  The web page does not offer info on the re-release yet but it will be released at the same time as Christmas Carol.

Retro News & Chat / Pitfall!
August 26, 2012, 03:35:23 AM
Pitfall may not have been an arcade game but it was certainly adapted to several different consoles.  While the basic gameplay is the same in all of them, it is interesting to see how the game was changed visually and how the sounds were modified based on the capabilities of the each system.  Curiously, the C64 version is the only one with some music on this video.  It turns out that's because it is a homebrew version of the game.   Otherwise, there is no real music for any version of Pitfall.  Enjoy!  :)

This is the real version for the C64.

Retro News & Chat / Let's Compare - Burger Time
August 24, 2012, 21:33:09 PM
Another comparison video with several versions of anther fun old game, Burger Time.  Here, again, there are some significant differences between versions.  It's good to see that Beef Drop was also included!

I've had the chance to play Burger Time for the 2600, Intellivision, 5200 (Beef Drop homebrew), and the 7800.  I can't help but wonder if the 2600 version could be improved given all the things folks do nowadays with the 2600.  That version, though visually the weakest, does retain all the game elements (including the music!).  :)

Retro News & Chat / Let's Compare - Congo Bongo
August 24, 2012, 21:05:51 PM
I was just watching this video on YouTube comparing different versions of Congo Bongo with the arcade.  This game must have been really tough to translate into home consoles because most do not look very good.  The Coleco Vision version is probably the best one.  I do have to say, though, that the SG-1000 was quite imaginative in how they changed the perspective of the game to get it to work.  This might have been a better idea for systems like the 2600 and the Intellivision.

Bob is at it again and he has posted these images on AA.  Someone was talking about an updated Combat for the 7800.

Looks very nice.  Here is an image of the arcade for comparison:

For any Vectrex collectors out there, I thought I'd share this information I got today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE VECTREX OVERDRIVE CONTROLLER
Designed specifically for racing/driving games, the Overdrive Controller is the
first of its kind on the Vectrex console!
Overdrive Controller

Overdrive is released NOW! This is not another pre-order, as these will start shipping
this week! The sooner you order, the sooner it ships. If I start getting quite a few orders,
it could take a number of days to process your order, so send in your order as soon as you
can for fastest service. I will let you know your expected shipping date in your order
confirmation email (allow 12 hours for confirmation).

The Overdrive Controller comes complete with a mini metal steering wheel! This
is a 4-button controller that is compatible with several existing games (see website
for compatibility list). I also have two new compatible games planned for 2013,
Purgatory and Night Trucker.

Overdrive ships for FREE worldwide! Limited time offer!

These are "paddle" style controllers and are therefore completely different from
the Vectrosis Spinner. The two are not interchangeable. Spinner games do not work with the Overdrive Controller, and paddle games do not work with Vectrosis.

I wanted to share this here.  Retrocade Magazine has their Vectrex games tournament coming up next month.  This may be of interest to folks here who own the console. Details about the tournament and rules can be found here:  Vector War II

I just saw a new game posted being developed for the Lynx - Traffic Jam.  It is a classic puzzle game from the same person working on Dragonsaga for the Lynx.  Information is posted in Atari Age:  http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/199419-new-game-traffic-jam-for-the-atari-lynx/
The game is in very early development but worth keeping an eye on.  :)
