We recently saw versions of this hugely popular mobile and flash game 2048 hit the Atari 2600, Commodore 16 & Plus/4, Sega Mega Drive, Nintendo Game Boy, Atari XL/XE and Sega Master System among other systems so it was only a matter of time before the Nintendo Game Boy got a version too. If you're not familiar with the game, here are some details (from Wikipedia):  2048 is a single-player online and mobile game created in March 2014 by Italian 19-year-old Gabriele Cirulli, in which the objective is to slide tiles on a grid to combine them and create a tile with the number 2048. It can be regarded as a type of sliding block puzzle.

Homebrewer programmer Sanqui has not only released his own version for the portable Nintendo machine but he has also made available all the assets he used to make it, to help you build your own versions of the game. You can check out all this information and more about his projects on his website. A ROM of this game has been released for free and can be used with both real hardware and flash cartridges, so now you can finally play this addictive game on the move!

Underwater Predator is a new homebrew game for the Atari 2600 by Atari Age member ThatDude (A.K.A. Declan Hoare), this is his first ever game for the system. You are a shark swimming around underwater doing what a shark does, eat other fish! You have to eat the goldfish while avoiding black fish, which are rotten but somehow still alive and swimming (SHHH, don't question these things). Every 20 points, the speed of the fish increases, and although the first speed is downright boring, it quickly gets more interesting. You use the stick to move and the button to eat.

The game was created using Batari BASIC and you can download the source code for this title HERE!. Underwater Predator works perfectly with real hardware, via a flash cartridge, or with the Stella emulator. If you want to read more about the development of this game then you can do so over in the thread on Atari Age forum.

Homebrew Chat / AXE - New Atari 2600 Game

AXE is a new hack 'n' slash game for Atari VCS by Atari Age member la1n. The object of the game is to kill all the others warriors and don't get stabbed back! You can only kill a enemy if he is not already stabbing you, so precise timing is absolutely crucial to progress. The whole game was written entirely in assembler, a great achievement in these days of Batari BASIC.

This game will run perfectly on Stella or a flash cartridge and the source code for the game is included in the download, but don't look at it or you will be slashed to hell! If you would like to read more about the development of this game and find out what inspired it you can read the development thread over on Atari Age.

Sliding Blaster is a brand new homebrew game by NES Dev member NovaSquirrel. A demo version was entered in the recent NES Dev coding contest but now the game has been worked on further, finished and given a proper release. Nova had asked for tips on fixing the control without a mouse, then worked on this further to get it right, taking inspiration from Konami's classic arcade game Gyruss!

Sliding Puzzle has been released to download for free and with work with both emulators and real hardware via a flash cartridge. If you would like to read more about the games development then check out this thread on the subject. You can also download previous builds of the game too if you want to compare them.

You know what, I take that back! Somehow I missed out Dig Dug!!!  :13:

No idea how I did that when it's one of my favourite 7800 games. Having played both versions I can say with confidence that the 7800 version wins, especially as it has no sprite flicker unlike the NES port.

But funny enough a 7800 version of Millipede was planned for release!

I would still chose 7800 Centipede here, for the 2-player option alone!!!  :69:

Dig Dug has already been posted earlier in the thread.

Homebrew Chat / Jawbreaker II - New MSX Homebrew
July 14, 2014, 18:43:01 PM

This game is a port of the TI99 game of the same name. It's a fast paced arcade game heavily inspired by Pac-Man and released in 1983 by Sierra On-Line for the Apple II, Atari 8-bits and Texas Instruments TI99/4A. The MSX version includes some enhancements but remains true to the spirit of the original game, meaning it is fun but slightly primitive. This is no bad thing of course!

Title: Jawbreaker II
Developer: Maggoo
Music: Makinavaja / Toni Cano-Caballero
Cover artwork: Ericb59 / Eric Boez
Year: 2014
Game size: 16KB ROM/8KB RAM
Game genre: Maze game

Quote from: "TrekMD"That Atari 8-bit version looks very good!  It does look like the arcade.  I was very disappointed with the Genesis/MD homebrew as it took its inspiration from the Famicom port and not the actual arcade game.  The Genesis/MD would have had no issue recreating that arcade game.

Yeah, same as. I never even knew that version existed though! I wouldn't be surprised if they just hacked the MSX version and updated the graphics a bit as the Master System is basically an updated version of the MSX hardware (which was also used in the ColecoVision and Sega SG-1000) and of course the Mega Drive is backwards compatible with the SMS.
