Retro News & Chat / ? ? ? ? ? ? Zelda ? ? ? ? ? ?
« on: December 29, 2013, 22:00:19 PM »
So having disappeared for the best part of the last month playing Zelda Wind Waker, i was curious what other people thought was the best Zelda game and Links best aid/weapon

Best for me has to be the original gameboy Link's Awakening, just because i grew up with it, followed by Majora's Mask and Wind Waker in joint 2nd place.

As for best item/aid. As the title suggests, Epona the horse.

5 Awesome NES Facts! -- Fact Surgery

Just something i watched i thought i would share.

Although we already have a system comparisons thread for NES vs Master System this one is a little different.

(other thread

When it comes to comparing the same titles on the NES / SMS, the SMS wins 99% of the time because it was technically more capable.

The only time the NES can win is with exclusives and god knows it had enough!

Therefore this thread is a bit different, this time the aim is to see which system wins for each genre.

One person picks a genre, such as side scrolling shooter, and posts what they think is the best for their chosen platform.  In response someone else posts a game for the other platform, and then we decided.

I am going to start us of with a side scrolling shooter for the NES.

Contra (NES) - Part 1 of 2

Can a SMS side scrolling shooter beat this? I doubt it!

Spectrum Chat / Knightmare - Computer Game?
« on: October 20, 2013, 10:01:43 AM »

I only just learnt that one of my favourite shows as a kid was made into a game. Specifically Knightmare for the Amiga?

Has anyone ever played it? Is it any good?

Kind of curious how many people can be seen at work / out of the house with a retro console!

I always have my gameboy or NeoGeo Pocket on me just incase i need a quick game. Always bring one on the train, sometimes leads to random conversations. Even had my snes at work for a sly game in a meeting room.

General Retro Chat / Your Favorite MS DOS 6.0+ Game?
« on: September 13, 2013, 21:24:34 PM »
A joy of consoles and old computers is being able to easily define an era of gaming and then compare!

DOS is a weird one....So for this thread i propose sticking to games that run on MS DOS 6 onwards...This basically covers anything released after 1991!

I am going to kick it off with Little Big Adventure 2, as this defined my summer in 1998, spending half my time down the nearby gully (a field)  and half the time sat around my windows 98 enabled PC on our kitchen table, with my mate, Roberto.

Little Big Adventure 2 - Part 9 - To the Moon!

The music is great, the story is great, it seems to have the right balance of challenge, Basically i love it.

Homebrew Chat / Fintendo Pii

Currently working on creating a portable retro gaming machine.

I am using a raspberry Pi and a 2 inch car reversing camera screen.

I have done all the soldering and set up bluetooth to enable the device to work with wii remotes. I have also sorted the portable bit!

I am currently compiling all the emulators and filling the machine with roms. Still need to build a menu system!

Long boot up at the mo:

Bugger i just fried my pi. Without realizing i snapped an SD card out of the SD card reader and damaged the SD card reader beyond repair.

I have desoldered the SD card reader but can't find a replacement. Anyone have use for the pi in its state?

Retro News & Chat / Alcon 2013 (Comic & Games Event)
« on: August 21, 2013, 19:54:50 PM »

Just found out about this, its gonna have some gaming but is mostly comics, but well worth a look.

So annoyed i dont think i will be able to get there.

If you were stranded on a island and could only have 1 console (and the island happened to have a tv and a spare electrical socket)

Which console would you take with you and which 5 games?

To be honest i am trying to figure out what games i must have in my collection :)

In my case I am split between my Gameboy (pointless TV) and Mega Drive.

Zelda - Links Awakening
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario Land

Mega Drive:

Sonic 2,3+Knuckles
Streets of Rage 2
Toe Jam & Earl
