Get Ready... Go![/font:2faebk63]
It is Christmas time once again and the third annual Carol vs. The World! Championship is upon us.  Throughout the entire month of December, all boys and girls -- naughty or nice -- will have the opportunity not only to earn bragging rights, but to win actual prizes!

This year, in an effort to encourage novices and newcomers to play, we are changing things a bit. We will separate the veteran players in their own category, so that they will not compete with newer players for prizes. We hope that this will balance the contest better and make it more fair to newcomers.

There will be two categories:  The regular players and the special "Elite Knight Elf" for veterans players, each with their own rankings and prizes.  Veterans are those who have won awards or have submitted scores higher than 1,000 points in previous competitions.  Please visit the Contest Rules and FAQ pages for more details on contest rankings.

[/align:2faebk63]

All that said, there are prizes for players of all skill levels, veterans and novices alike, and many other surprises!  We encourage everyone to participate, submit their score, and join in the fun!

Once again, we've partnered with AtariAge to include some more great prizes!  The Top Players on each rank will receive a $25.00[/font:2faebk63] gift certificate for the AtariAge Store, and the Grand Prize winner will be awarded a $50.00[/font:2faebk63] gift certificateHow's that for a stocking stuffer?

We've also changed the top prize!  At stake this year is a custom-designed, one-of-a-kind Ultimate Video Arcade Marquee.  Made with the same process and materials that classic arcade cabinets use, it will look just as great on your MAME cabinet or wall.  Plus, the winner gets to help design his own Christmas Carol themed artwork!

[/align:2faebk63]

Like every year before, the championship starts at Midnight (EST) on December 1st, and goes all the way until Midnight (EST) on January 1st of the new year.

The rules are simple:
 • Play the Christmas Carol game on your Intellivision® console or PC.
 • At the end of the game, record your final score by taking a photograph or screen-shot of the game screen. This will serve as proof of your score.
 • Announce your points to the judges by posting the image right here or sending it via e-mail to the judges at: .  Be sure to include the name you want to have displayed on the leaderboard.
 • Wash, rinse, repeat as many times as you'd like, until the contest deadline of December 31st, 2015.

That's it! There's nothing to buy and no registration required.  Whether you play the game cartridge on an Intellivision® console, or the ROM edition on a PC or Mac, it's all the same.  Just send us a photo or screen-grab of your score and you're in!

We'll post all entries to the Official CvW Leaderboard as they come in, where they forever will remain immortalized on the Internet.

General Retro Chat / Americanized console names?
January 05, 2014, 13:47:32 PM
He guys,

Most of the time, I feel lost in the RVG fora because I don't recognized many of the console names you guys talk about.  As an American (well, close to it), I thought they are probably European or UKian products (like the Sinclair micro).

Recently I was reading a book on the history of video games and it made allusions to two consoles and how they were marketed throughout the world.  According to this book, what you guys call the "Mega-Drive," was called "Genesis" in the US; likewise, the "PC Engine" was called "TurboGrfx-16" on this side of the pond.

Well, I must say that I am familiar with both the Sega Genesis and the TurboGrfx-16 (from NEC, I believe), and even played them for a bit at a friend's house back when they came out.  (I so fancied the Genesis.)

If these assertions are accurate, then it puts most of RVG into a new context for me, and I can feel less alienated by your talk of weird and alien game machines. :)

    Cheers,
    dZ.

Carol vs. The WORLD!
(Carol's Super-Duper Christmas Championship Extravaganza)[/align:3ixoprz4]

Play the game Christmas Carol vs. The Ghost Of Christmas Presents throughout the entire month of December, and help Carol Greenleaf save Christmas from the Evil Snowman.  Rise to the top of the ranks of Santa's Elite Elf Squad and submit your top score to the judges.  The person with the highest score received by the deadline of December 31st, 2013, wins a very special gift from Santa Clause himself!

A Very Special Christmas Presents
The winner of the Championship will receive a custom, one-of-a-kind edition of the game.  This is not your typical, run-of-the mill variant—This is a unique, personalized edition, chosen and designed by the winner himself!

The personalized game will be housed in Left Turn Only's signature clear cartridge shell, packaged with its manual and hand-controller overlays in a "gate-fold" style box; and finished up with a beautiful Christmas gift-wrapping paper, bow and all.  A very special Christmas present, indeed!

Everyone's A Winner
Santa Claus always acknowledges hard work and effort, and although there can be only one Grand Prize winner, Santa will award various other prizes to the top players on each rank, in recognition of their high status among Santa's Elite Elf Squad.

Plus, all scores submitted will be published on the Carol vs. Ghost web site as well as on the Intellivision® High Score Club, so even if you're not in the highest rank, you still get to brag about your score.

There will be prizes awarded for every skill level, and everyone is invited, so there's just no excuse not to participate!

A Present Under Every Tree
As if bragging rights and great prizes were not enough, Santa has decided to give away the game to everyone! That's right, Christmas Carol vs. The Ghost Of Christmas Presents is now available in ROM format as a free download.

This is not a demo version, nor some watered-down edition of the game—this is every bit the same game included in the production cartridge for sale. How's that for a Very Merry Christmas?

Announcements and Feedback / Tapitalk support broken?
September 15, 2013, 14:33:03 PM
Hi guys!

I haven't accessed the forum in a long while, longer than I should care for, but it's because I can't seem to access it from Tapitalk anymore.  I have limited access to my computer at the moment, so I tend to visit my favourite fora using Tapitalk on my iPad, that way I don't have to worry about enabling JavaScript or cookies in Safari.

Is there a problem? Will it be fixed?  Tapitalk says that either access to it is restricted in the forum, or the Tapitalk plug-in is not installed.  However, it was working fine several months before.

Cheers!

The folks at the Classic Game Room review the latest home-brewed game for the Intellivision: Christmas Carol vs. the Ghost of Christmas Presents.

They seem to like the game a lot, plus it's a very entertaining review. :)

Hello:

I'm looking to buy an Intellivision Master Component for PAL television sets.  It needs to be in good working condition, and preferably with original box and packing materials.

Please send me a private message if you have one for sale.

      Thank you,
      -dZ.

Introductions / Hello (better late than never)
October 30, 2012, 23:37:45 PM
I've been hanging around for a couple of weeks already but I thought I'd introduce myself properly to this community: Hello everyone!  I'm DZ, I live in Florida, USA.  I'm not so much a collector, rather an enthusiast of retro games and computers.  I collect mostly Intellivision games--and I program them too!

I just released my first game called "Christmas Carol vs. The Ghost of Christmas Presents," it was well received.

I hung out mostly at AtariAge, but I recently discovered this forum and I joined.

Anywhere, that's me!  :)

   Cheers!
     dZ.
