Not that this is progress but I'm posting because I am logging in and seeing where we're at.

It's been a long time but I think it was something about the sprites staying at the top of the screen?  I was never able to reproduce it.

I take it Albert hasn't responded yet.  Has there been any more leads on alternative cart makers?

CPUWIZ and Albert could give a flying fig about The Laird from what I hear.  Thankfully.

Here's a freshly compiled PAL and NTSC version.  They're both filled out to 4k just in case being a 2k game was the issue.

Quote from: "zapiy"Well, now your around I would like to think we could easily arrange that..

What are our choices?

I'd say if you cannot find an enthusiast on your side of the pond try AtariAge or AA member CPUWIZ.  If they find the same weird problem as Hozer then I'll redo the game.

Yeah.  I was hoping someone would check with the other cart makers for a second opinion since no one could reproduce Randys (Hozers) issues.

This looks a whole lot like the developers earlier Atari 2600 game M.M.S.B.C. II

Same two player co-op.  Shared life bar.

New game.  4k to keep it the same price to make.  One very real possibility is that being a 2k game was a problem.  I'd rather not let that be a factor if I'm going to re-write the thing :)

Since I assume the ROM Randy did try and make was 2k I'll have to go 4k.  Shouldn't cost any more.  I don't think most people know enough to appreciate the significance.

I appreciate the sanity check TrekMD.  Unfortunately, this all means that we cannot reproduce the issues found on  a real cart.  I've already begun work on completely re-writing the game.  sigh.

Quote from: "TrekMD"Really cool, loon.  Thanks for starting this.

Not a problem!  I don't doubt there's merit in being retrospective about past projects.  Joe Grisaffi may be signing up too.  He literally does everything all the time, though.  Not only does he write, direct and act but has several other jobs to fund his projects (as well as eat!)

Quote from: "theloon"I could do something describing the game progress through time.  Maybe per game build I handed to Joe.  It would take awhile as I did this over 126 times :)

Started the first entry here:

The first thing I "delivered" to Joe was a title screen for the game.  After E.T. things like title screens became a must.

We had just mulled over our game style options and decided on an Adventure-esque theme over maze, platformer or shooter.  Here is what I proposed on that front:
QuoteAdventure-esque
The Dead Knight is pulled back to earth and must obtain the icons of his chivalry to ascend! He must find 5 gates and sojourn upwards towards the boss guarding his icons. The boss monsters are demons disguised as innocents (Marlas Friends). Randomized dungeons can be spelunked for shield and weapon upgrades.

The title screen was made from reference material culled from a little Internet stalking on my part.  I found the Dead of Knight movie web page and a few sites that had Joes arcade cabinet collection in it.   Finding what games he collected greatly assisted me in coming up with suggestions for the game.

This was recently suggested by TrekMD.  I'd like to take people build-by-build through the happenings involved in making a homebrew.  Note that this is a unique situation and not entirely typical.  I wouldn't suggest entering into a game programming contract with this as a template.  Rather, it's just my experience creating this game.  I intend to post this in bite-sized morsels using each delivered binary as a reference point.
