Yes thats right, we need some help..
If you think you could help us let us know your interested either here or pm me direct.
Reviews, Content, Graphics, Coding, Promoting?.. Whatever you can do really..
Cheers
This is on going guys.. Dont be shy
I'm not one for reviews I'm afraid

, but might be able to help with bits and bobs if your needing some done..
To be honest fella.. I have just changed the OP as it really did not mention what we want..
Mainly i think we need decent folk able to offer sometime to the old dog. lol.
Small bump.
it looks like you have everything under control here tbh.
But it you need help, I should be about.
I am interested in writing reviews although I should stress that my experience is limited to all things Sinclair. I once wrote a retrospective on Manic Miner (titled rather pompously "Manic Miner - Memory's Diffusion of Facts) which ran to about 4 pages of A4.
If you want I could knock up a review of a game and send it to you...

That would be excellent! We do need some computer related ones.
Would be really good if you could knock up a bunch of mini-reviews much like the ones that are there now!
Awesome thats all we need fella.. People from all walks of the Retro Gaming Spectrum (pardon the pun) are needed to write some reviews.
What they will need to do is follow the exsisting mini reviews (like The Laird Said)or be one off Feature Reviews.
Just sent you a PM. I believe I can be of help.Â

Will do. I will send a couple over to you within the next week. Got some work stuff that requires my attention today, Monday and Tuesday but I should be able to complete at least a couple of mini-reviews by Friday. Looking forward to it.
Sure thing fella, no rush.
We are always after members willing to help.. We need contributers for various content, reviews, pinball info, Computer info and such like..
You will be credited for the work as The Laird is for his reviews.
Post here if your interested.
I'm Pretty sure I could knock up the odd review or two, I have already done a couple for the Retro Gamer Retrobate review section, So can poach those two for a start. For a taster, If you go onto the Main RG website (not the forum) and look for tribal2873 you should be able to find my reviews on Doriath for the C64 and The Haunting for Megadrive.

If you can do them to the same format the mini-reviews that I have up right now and then email them to me!
Nice one fella. That's what we need. Diversity.
Heya I spoke to Jamie on Twitter and I am quite interested in trying to help with reviews. The consoles I would prefer to do is NES, SNES, Master System and Mega Drive. I haven't done reviews before but it was something I wanted to get started in anyway

Hope I can help

Nice one! I am the guy in charge of the reviews here, until the Vectrex reviews were added recently I was the only person who had written any.
First thing you need to do is go and read a bunch of the reviews already up there and look at the format of them because we want them all to follow that style. So fairly short mini reviews with a score out of 10 and a screenshot.
Then pick a system, NES or SNES would be awesome as nobody is covering any Nintendo machines but SMS would be great to. I have started work on some Megadrive ones myself so if you did these we would have to make sure we don't clash. Do about 10 reviews and send them to me via email as a word document and I will let you know what I think and do any editing where needed!
Look forward to seeing something from you!
Wallop nice one fella. This is what we need. Thanks for showing support.
Thanks, I shall have a look at the reviews done. I have never done a review before myself so I hope I get it right :)
Have fun

This may sound like an odd question but I have a team of my own for my Retro Let's Plays. Would it be ok if we did the reviews as a team? Basically there are 3 of us, me (retz), Wolfie and Samchu. Wolfie hold's a lot more expertise in the Nintendo consoles than I do and Samchu has her own expertise on each of the consoles.
We would do the reviews in the same style as yours its just, I would do a few, Wolfie would do a few and Samchu would do a few. If thats ok.
You can do mate, obviously we will just credit the person who does the review though.
Get them to sign up here too.
Quote from: "zapiy"You can do mate, obviously we will just credit the person who does the review though.
Yeah thats fine. When I send you the reviews I'll write underneath who wrote them :)
Do you need some Spectrum reviews? Sure I could knock up a few for you in no time. What's the word limit?
I think the largest we have is about 400 words so anywhere around that i guess is fine mate.. And yes please..
The Laird will happily take the reviews and so on and post them on the site for you.
"Laird" if you give me your email address, I'll get cracking.
Cheers for all our helpers. This is still open for more people to help so just let us know if your interested.
those screenshots in the Spectrum reviews section look lovely all cosied up togetherÂ

As I told the Laird, I'll do some more next month.
Much appreciated mate.
Sent 10 more reviews of Vectrex games to Laird.Â

 Mostly homebrew games.Â
not sure what else I can do to help but if you think theres something else I could do let me know! I can't really help with pre 90's stuff but I can do reviews (though they would really only be my opinions and probably won't be all that technical lol) let me know if theres something I can do, if I have time I'll certainly help out

Yes, I emailed them to you late last night. Have you not received them? Let me resend them.

Yeah maybe you could do some official RVG stuff as a side to your personal channel? What you think?
who me? I dont mind creating footage and sending it to you guys to add to your channel under your RVG channel banner if you want... or else how else would it work? If I did that though I'd either just want some kind of mention or maybe the option to also show the vids on my channel as well? I don't mind how we do it though
I would trust you with the RVG access... Its not my personal account.
oh right, cool! well we could discuss ways to do it I guess, I'll have to have a think, let me know if you think of a plan/idea, I'm easy either way just need a plan that makes it amicable for both
Fella i am so laid back its unreal lol..
Just whack some vids up here and there, no presure on how many. Just what you can do..
I will supply you with an opening logo sting and so on for all the video beginnings.
But let me know you def want in and i will give you staff access and we can have a private thread there for more detailed chat of what we can come up with.
as you say, your very laid back with it so as long as you don't mind how often I do stuff then that's cool with me go right ahead!
Done, you should have access.
Bump, we are always looking for reviewers for games but now we are looking for reviews for hardware of all types.. Systems, addons or accessories.
So if you fancy writing a few reviews for some games on a certain system or indeed a system..
Post here and we will hook you up..

Still looking for folks to help out ?
:) )
Always pal, depends what you are bringing to the table lol..
Dunno really.. I've "dabbled wi computers 'n that like" - pretty much everything to do with them in fact
Well, we are looking for people with P.H.D in computer science, HTML/java script and ruby experience , and the abilitity to have 2 walnuts in your mouth and still be able to speak after 3 tequila shots, this is mandatory !
Also if available To be able to multi-task under at least 3 operations at the same time, answering phones, looking out a window and doodling on a note pad.
If you can not achieve or qualify for any of the above, we will except at least one from the multi-tasking suggestions we've outlined.
Thank you for your application and I am sure one of the bots here will get back to you very soon :113:
No PHD im afraid - all self taught skillz. Dont do walnuts either - but I can still speak after 3 long island iced teas. Know a bit of html - never looked at ruby tho. Python will have to do

I have 8 cores with which to multi task and rant at 50 paces
Do you know enough HTML to help us fix how the reviews page works? It would be great if the link to any given review went directly to the review the person uses vs what currently happens which is simply that you end up in the page where the review appears.Â
Probably not - but I might be able to figure it out.
Im a dab hand at a number of other languages though- probably not much use here.
I can do a spot of adobe stuff - not drawing stuff but I graft a mean head onto a body
Trek: use the anchor id tags.
Here is a really easy example from memory. Copy and paste the code below into notepad and save it as whatever.html and then view it in your prefered browser.
Example Code:
<html>
<head>
<title>
I am a page
</title>
</head>
<body>
<a id="spoon">
Spoon! Yey</a>
<p>
<a href ="#dog">click here for dogs </a>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>.<p>
<a id="dog">
I am a dog! Yey
</a>
<p>
<a href="#spoon">click here for spoons </a>
</body>
</html>
Basically by putting <a id="whatever"> Game Title </a> you can then modify the link to the page by adding #whatever at the end of the url to auto scroll to that tag.
example:
Take the Spectrum review of Uridium
Modify the title Uridium – By Hewson to <a id="Uridium> Uridium - By Hewson</a>
and instead of visiting this link
http://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/index.php?page=spectrumvwxyz (//http)
visit this link:
http://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/index.php?page=spectrumvwxyz#Uridium (//http)
This is how it works for html files. in fact if you look at some urls when navigating this site you will see it say something like #msg56373, this is because its tagging the messages automatically and this number tells it where to scroll the page to (normally the top but if you visit someones profile and view one of there posts in the original thread, it automatically center the page on their post using this method)
If you have problems I would need to be able to look at the code you have in place but i suspect this will just work!

I think he's talking about the tabs at the top. If you click on Home, Forum, Store Directory or Calendar the tab changes from red to grey to show where you are. When you click on any other tab either Home or Forum turns to grey and not the tab you clicked on.

Some of them do, but I didn't originally know how to do this so only the ones Zapiy put up linked. It's more work to do it this way and I have just never got round to setting them all up properly, it's a lot of time and effort for not much difference.
Thanks Laird. Makes sense.
Just gonna moderate myself as i am concious this thread is wandering.
Can we steer ourselves back to offers of help
I anchor tags was used in the early days.. for one reason or another that came to and end.. Back on track lol
First bump of 2014..
So did you guys sort out that HTML problem? I only ask because on my forum I had a problem with the code jumping to another browser tab till our co-admin showed me how to use 'self' tags. I can get the code from that site if it helps but it looks like Fin and Mire etc know HTML coding far better than I do.
In any event, if I can help in any way, I will happily try.
The anchors was what i used to use, i am not sure how we are going forward with the reviews longterm at the moment so we will have to get back to you on that..
As for the tabs, yes i did fix them but they are borked again.. However i will try and resolve a perm fix..
Ok, any of you active members fancy helping moderate the site please post here and or pm me.. Cheers.
Anyone interested helping us out in anyway please let us know here or send one of us a pm.
Cheers
I am happy to help though I am not sure how. I have long spells when I hardly get on the site so moderating is probably not a good choice for me, especially as so many of you know far more than I do about the retro game scene. However, anything else I will happily help.
ps I haven't forgotten our convo, just completed this damn degree but now have european guests coming over. That said, I will be checking in more often now

Gobsmacked beyond words.
I'll try to keep RVG Blaster at 2k - 4k to make it easier for someone to find donor carts and mess with a soldering iron. Too complicated for me
Can you pm me the finer detail. I would prolly look at doing a small run of 10-20 only assuming GF could do the box art and label and then the rest is history lol.

How are you fixed for Sega related guff? I quite like the idea of getting involved.
Early Mega Drive era would suit but anything else would give me an excuse to expand the collectionÂ

We have some folks how have volunteered to do reviews but more people are welcome. Would you be interested in writing reviews for any of the Sega consoles?
On the matter of reviews, do you guys have a standard format and what do you need reviews of?
My passion is the Jaguar but I feel that has largely been covered by experts like Gone

I am trying to put together some personal experiences for the Jag but that is a little way off yet.

Sure, please do and I have experience of a great many 2600 titles and a fair amount of XL/XE (had my own market stall for several years). I'll happily have a go, especially on the Jag stuff as I think a slightly different approach my be possible.
Cool, I will send you more details once I make it back home (I'm returning from CGE). Glad to see you can write reviews for the XL/XE as well. Check out our current 2600 section also so you can put together a list of games that you'd like to review that are not already there.Â
Can't wait to read some fresh perspectives on the Atari 8-bit stuff Cryptic, I'd love to do some myself, but just don't get or have the time, I'm reading though the Ocean book ATM for a review, so I'm going through that.
But can't wait to see who you come up with.
lol I am happy to do a bit where I can but don't build me up too much ;)
Quote from: "Cryptic33"One comment I will be making re the Jag controller is how I use it, very unconventional. more in my upcoming review :)
Awesome stuff.. Community in action...
First bump of 2015..
Hey!
I run a YouTube channel which I upload to weekly or try to at least and if you want I can advertise the website on there a little bit if you want. I already advertise VGCollect.com (un-officially of course) as I use it for an online database but I'd be happy to mention RVG in a few of my vids. Let me know what you think

Retro_Raiden
We will if course accept. Cheers fella.
Awesome. If I ever post a video up with RVG mentioned in it I'll let you guys know.
Top stuff... Thanks
Is anyone interested in writing reviews for games of their favorite consoles? Any help is welcome. I'm also working on a new section (Special Feature) for Star Wars game reviews. If anyone would like to just write some reviews of Star Wars games, that's also welcome. Thanks!
Sounds brilliant TrekÂ
Happy to help with writing some reviews ps 2 / sinclair / c64 / amiga / gameboy
Star Wars: I will write a review and should I submit it here? or PM?
Thank you Gazzapper..
Trek will pass you all the details regards to the reviews, thanks for stepping up to help.
Was thinking about Tie Fighter and ZX Spectrum or Amiga Star Wars?
Hey Gazzaper! Thanks for offering to help with reviews. Please, check our Style Guide (//http) for the details on how to write the reviews.Â
Insofar as systems, Sinclair, C64, Amiga and GameBoy would be great as we already have pages for all of those and we'd be adding your stuff. Please, check the existing reviews so you don't end up writing a duplicate. We'd need to create a new section for the PS2 so we'd need something like 30 reviews to get it started so we have enough for each letter group. If you're interested, that's cool.Â

For Star Wars, feel free to write what you'd like and just let me know what you're working on. I'm going to PM you something related to this as well as where to send them.Â
Thanks again!
A nice little bump if anyone fancies helping in any way.
I've already helped once, what more do you want
lol..
The clothes off your back..
You'd be lucky to get my clothes off
LOL What is this? Strip helping?
Well the topic is called "You fancy helping?" besides some nerds and geeks will do anything for games lol
A bump as we are always up for help.
I've already helped, isn't that enough for you! All you admins want to do is abuse my skills and knowledge. It's very upsetting

What is it you guys need help with anyway?
We are easy mate.. Whatever you fancy getting stuck into.
Ok, RVG is always up for asking its members to contribute in some way so please get in touch if you feel you could add something..
Cheers
Hey, so I know you were after some articles.
Don't know if this is what you're looking for but I've been working on an Javascript/HTML5 version of Star Castle that I'm planning to release shortly. I would have had it done already but life being what it is, the current gig I'm on has overrun by a couple of months and is getting right in the way. There's a video of an early demo at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV87AKRP6xI (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV87AKRP6xI). (Apologies for the crappy sound quality - couldn't get Soundflower to do proper duplex using the internal soundcard.)
Quite a lot has changed since that came out: scores, lives, level progression, better collision detection, it now works on both iOS and Android with hybrid touch/tilt controls. I'm also about to add game controller support because fundamentally, whilst touch can work really well for some types of games, I don't think it's great for controlling arcade style games. Still, once it's done you should be able to point your desktop/laptop/tablet/mobile browser at the URL and it should just work.
I think the game's probably easier than the original, at least on the lower levels. I wanted something that captured the spirit without being ludicrously hard from the outset, which I think would put a lot of people of... plus I don't have quite the same pressing need to extract as many 10p pieces from as many people as possible in the shortest time possible as a real arcade game.
Similarly I'd like to do versions of some other classics - Defender/Defender 2/Stargate being my immediate preference.
Anyway, point is, happy to write an article about it, if you think it would be interesting.
Cheers,
Bart
Bart, absolutely, we want to cover all relevant stories on top of what we already do.. So please feel free.
Cracking work btw.
I wrote a couple of reviews for really obscure and typically British C64 games I could adapt for whatever the house style is here if wanted. If any admin staff want to see them on their host site I can send the links if required.
Can you pm TrekMD he is in charge of reviews..

Happy to write reviews.. I know I promised coding help but just can't motivate myself that way after working in IT all day..
2600, SNES, NES, MD, Saturn, N64, DC, PS1/2, 360 and GC are all on my radar.
Cool, good to have you back!
