The SNK NEO GEO X Chit Chat thread.
Surely they wont release an 'official' product that runs roms straight out the box?
Quote from: "stvd"Surely they wont release an 'official' product that runs roms straight out the box?
i doubt that myself, I reckon it will be simular to that other one coming out, where they will have there own app store for the games to can play on it, but surely they won't have neo Geo cart prices attached to them will they?
Yeah i can see this being app based.
If they get the pricing right it could take off.
I enjoyed the SNK collections on PSP - this new handheld would need to offer a wide range of SNK titles at a reasonable price for me to consider it.
(plus, it DOES look like an iPhone 4 with bits stuck on - is it really real?)
well Darran Jones, I think , thinks it's fake too..but only time will tell, to me it looked like a dingo, with a Neo Geo logo.
Just read my quote earlier its from a VERY reliable source
Quote from: "The Laird"Just read my quote earlier its from a VERY reliable source
who's to say your not part of the propaganda..lol..
well when ever it arrives..lets hope it will be a proper good little hand held, but, isn't it a bit limited if only to play Neo-Geo games, my psp, dingo , plays all these plus much much more.
So we now know that this is going to use SD cards and will come with 20 games pre-loaded which are:
Art of Fighting
Baseball Stars
Cyber Lip
Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury Special
Football Frenzy
King of the Monsters
Last Resort
League Bowling
Magician Lord
Metal Slug
Mutation Nation
Nam 1975
Samurai Shodown
Sengoku
Super Sidekicks
The King of Fighters '94
The Ultimate 11
Top Players Golf
World Heroes
The unit will cost around £120 and its likely that more games will be available for around £2 each (download of course)
Consider me sold on this!
sounds pretty damn awesome, look forward to seeing one in action.
looks interesting, but pricewise it's still a bit high.

"Great game consoles don't die; they're just reborn in much more affordable and convenient packages," said Tommo CEO Jonathan Wan. "The NEOGEO X GOLD is a love letter to one of my favorite consoles of all time, and working with SNK PLAYMORE to acquire the NEOGEO license, Tommo Inc. looks to provide gaming and entertainment enthusiasts with a classic arcade experience both at home and on the go."
OMG. Can not wait.
Awesome! Think I will have to get one.
A photo might be in order:

That does look like a thing of beauty.

All this comes with it. The main console which also acts as a charging deck and the arcade stick for playing it on your TV
$199.99 sounds pretty good considering all you get.
This will sell by the bucket load.
Want!!
I really like the handheld! Would love to get it!
As we previously reported the Neo Geo is booking a comeback tour in the form of the Neo Geo X, a handheld console that will go on sale in December. We were originally led to believe it would cost $200 for the Gold edition and come with 20 pre-installed games to celebrate the console's 20th anniversary, but we now know there will also be a less expensive version, one that runs $130 and will also come with the same collection of games. So, what's the difference?
Well, the standalone console (versus the Gold version) won't come with a charging dock or joystick. The charging dock lets gamers hook the Neo Geo X up to their HDTV, while the joystick is intended to replicate the arcade experience at home.
If you can live without those amenities, the standalone console saves you $70 and pushes the handheld console into relatively affordable territory, albeit it's still a little pricey considering the age of the titles. And if you change your mind, you can always buy the joystick and dock separately, though SNK Playmore has yet to announce pricing info for either of those.[/align:2r5yhabl]
All over this.. Simples
Excellent!!!
This is going to be my Christmas present, I already convinced my GF!

Here´s a vid of it in action, it may be a proto:

I hope they release a quality product.
I didn't know there was a videoÂ

Looks so awesome - I want one so much!!!!
I want one of these! It looks fantastic!
Wallop that is awesome. The viewing angle is fantastic. Good screen me thinks.
Everything old is new again! Cool!
Quote from: "onthinice"Everything old is new again! Cool!
A rejuvenation machine! Great!Â
LOL! Funny how the Atari Flashbacks, new Genesis that plays old carts and Neo Geo are being sold again
Good consoles never die!
There were two more vids showing the dock working but they´re private and I couldn´t watch them...
IMO the coolest part of all this is the possibility of HDMI video using the dock and the USB controllers, I´m sure they are PC compatible and that´s great.

Video made some good points on owning one and also on not buying one. Has me wondering how the gaming community will respond.
I am getting a Vita for Xmas so this may have to wait.. Will see how funds are but i will get one..
treating yourself zap ehh?...I've heard rumors that the Vita could be coming down in price next march, like maybe £50 cheaper, but knowing Sony, they would say that. I'm actually gonna hold out for an Ouya, this will be the best all rounder, as I'll be able to emulate all the platforms including the Neo Geo and play them all in HD on my 51" Samsung :)
I'm still on the fence on this one. Going to take a wait and see approach I think.
As for the Vita I have one and love it and that's the main reason I'm not sure on the Neo Geo handheld. Most of the games that come pre loaded can be downloaded form the PS store onto my Vita for a fraction of what this handheld will cost.
Meet and greet the Neo Geo X - David Bruno give us a chance to go hands-on this Neo Geo handheld and AES dock. This is Pro-Gear Spec.

It's always good when they do mini reviews on these things, as with most cases the guy doing the reviews seems to always know more than the actual SNK rep does??, even that showcase of the hardware in action was a first for him also..great having top staff selling your product and hey lose the magnifying glass in your ear
Edited!!! I though that vid was an old one...
That is the same video I already posted aboveÂ
Another new video has been released:

That's well cool.

I am the same fella. Not to sure when I will get one but I will get one.
Yet another new vid!

That guy with the magnifying glass in his ear as Greyfox calls him sure gets around LOL
Wish I had his job!
LMFAO, just sat hear cracking up at that... Magnifying glass indeed lol..
Really great vid.
I take the Magnifying glass slant back, those holes are actually for wiring through cables to the next player behind him, without him moving out of the way.

It seems that it's going to finally cost 210€ here... I thought it was going to be a bit cheaper but at least it looks great.
Let's see if I can afford the pre-order, Ninja Masters is a great game and very underrated.

Announcement:
Neo Geo X It has come to our attention that some online stores are trying to sell the NeoGeo X without actually ordering any stock, or becoming an official NeoGeo X seller (therefore on release day they will not have any stock to sell you) - these stores are trying to take advantage of the public's excitement of the product to g...et your money. Only ever order from stores listed on these pages: http://neogeox.com/buy (//http) - regardless of what they tell you or what price they offer you, the only retailers who will be able to sell you this product are listed on the official website. If in doubt, email
sales@neogeox.com and we will confirm whether they are official or not.
looks great - especially in special edition - but sadly it's not a good time funds wise for me, so unless the production run is long and it's still on sale in 6 months time, i'll probably pass.

It will be as they are bringing out a standard edition next year without the stick and docking station and of course more games too.
Yeah i will get one, just ordered a Vita for xmas so i can not justify this now..

Wow, so it's pretty much the same size as a PSP. Niiiiice!
Looks even better seeing that video. Would love a spare £175.
Looks like a neat piece of kit, but the only game I could see myself playing on this is Last Resort.
I read some bad reviews about the quality but until I have one on my hands I can't say for sure. Hope to try it soon.
It happened some bad things in my life so I'm not going to be able to have it now, I'll have to wait some time but sooner or later I will pick one up.
I just received an email from a UK-based online retailer informing me that they've the Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition pack (includes "Ninja Master's game card") for sale at £189.99.

Just saw this: Neo Geo X production allegedly discontinued, additional carts to be released as planned (//http). No confirmation yet but...
Very vague story
What they forget to tell you is the one major point here lol. It's the limited editions that are not being made anymore.
I just picked up the limited edition! On its way now!Â
Nice one. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Yeah let us know what you think of it when you get it.
SO...
I got the NeoGeo X Gold package.
My first thoughts? AWESOME
I immediately hooked it up and started playing some really great games (being unfamiliar with most of them was an extra treat). I started off with Metal Slug and then proceeded to journey into the more "seemingly" obscure titles. I never owned a NeoGeo before but since my birthday is coming up quick, I thought I'd give it a try for once in my life. I mean, Ive played a few games before at a friends and watched a lot of videos on it. So I guess I knew what to expect.
My recommendation? If you get one, the joystick is an absolute must. I really enjoy the overall quality of the system. And now I desperately want to play this with my gf and friends. SO picking up and extra controller would be a wise choice.
Now getting back to the system quality-
I watched a lot of reviews of the system on youtube. And lets face it- All I heard was a bunch of whiney, socially awkward nerds that really cant be pleased. The purist may not enjoy this, but Im not one of those. But I am a vintage gamer, and I love retro. The controllers run great, the portable is top notch (it is very light I agree, but I don't think that its cheap by any means). And the overall physical quality is everything I would expect from a new system release. Not bad 8)
Now I got my gf hooked! LOL
Quote from: "Jag_Slave"Now I got my gf hooked! LOL
There are sooooooo many ways of replying to that statement!
Great review Slave, I still really want to get one of these at some point.
Thanks for posting a review Jag_Slave!

More details on the NEOGEO X System Update 1.0 will be released in the weeks to come. And because the fans asked for it, a NEOGEO X Travel Case is also in development, and is scheduled for release in April 2013.
Great news. Time to start saving.
Good list of games there. Also good to see they're committed to the system.
Quote from: "Shadowrunner"Good list of games there. Also good to see they're committed to the system.
Yep as the announcement says they will be releasing 5 of these compilations!
Awesome list! Much better than the launch titles.
So... looks like 3 games per memory card and the list is the 15 games that will be on volumes 1-5. No pricing info available yet.
Also: I wonder if Metal Slug 2 will have an overclock option? The original Metal Slug 2 has major slowdown, esp for 2 players. The Metal Slug Anthology compilation and PSN 'Neo Geo Station' releases have an overclock option to reduce the slowdown... wonder if their emulation will offer the same.
Ouch, it's taken a hammering in terms of Battery life and screen quality (or lack of...) over on Digital Foundary:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-ha ... o-x-review (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-neo-geo-x-review)
They do give a possible answer why a 4:3 based system is using a 16:9 screen (they might be cheaper to source).
'...(the) 480X272 display is terrible, it's washed out, has terrible viewing angles, poor scaling...makes all the games included look fuzzy and ill-defined....Neo Geo's 320X224 Res expanded to fill screen.....3-4 hrs gameplay from single charge....battery non-removable'
Have they been overly harsh? is the upscaling that bad? and what about the back ground 'ripple' effect?.
Be interested to hear from owners ( could lead to a:Is the Neo-Geo X getting unfair reviews? thread :-) ).
I think that review is hog wash. I think it looks crisp and clear, no display issues. And the battery life is just fine. I think like most of the reviewers, they are all following suit with the other reviewers to stay "legit".
Quote from: "Jag_Slave"I think that review is hog wash. I think it looks crisp and clear, no display issues. And the battery life is just fine. I think like most of the reviewers, they are all following suit with the other reviewers to stay "legit".
Probably my 'inner geek' talking here, but 1 reason i'm an avid collector of magazines, is i do take great interest in the way the media often seem overly harsh on a piece of hardware and/or software, where it's flaws are not only highlighted, but very much so, where as anothers are not only glossed over, you'd think they it had none, hence reading the DF piece and then throwing it open on here.
Seems once the media decides who's the 'dog of the day' so to speak, they'll keep beating it with the biggest stick they can find.
I couldnt have said it better myself. AMEN
Maybe theres such thing as "Rigged Reviews"? Just like in sports? Would be very easy to pay off a group of popular reviewers to bash one thing and not another.
Quote from: "Jag_Slave"Maybe theres such thing as "Rigged Reviews"? Just like in sports? Would be very easy to pay off a group of popular reviewers to bash one thing and not another.
Well, there's always been the case (on-going) of review scores etc being 'bought', after all, your talking a magazine or website surviving long term on advertising revenues, publishers been known to want something in return for that exclusive review, or cover art, or indeed supplying compo.prizes etc.
Rockstar been linked to EDGE, as often review text has suggested a lower score than 1 given, ex-EDGE staff writter went public with his claims.
Plus OCEAN (as well as the paid for adverts, used to do the Nu-media section of EDGE, talking the early days here, PS1 review of Tunnel B1, suggested a 7 at best, as reviewer made it clear game was flawed and frustrating, yet score, if i recal, was an 8/10, there'd been double-page ads for the game...)
Media made a big thing about battery life of PSP when it launched, yet little said of the 3DS battery life, which despite coming out years later, has around the same life per charge as the PSP and nowhere near that of the DS.
(NOt a PSP fanboy, i've bought a DS+Games before, own GB, GBA, GB Micro, Neo Geo Colour Pocket etc).
Game gear took flak for the poor screen (blur, ghosting etc), yet try as i might, i've yet to get a workable picture from my GB, if anyone other than Nintendo had released something like the orig GBA, where you needed to be in direct sunlight to see screen, sure they'd have taken far more flak.
3DO+Jaguar were initally THE next big thing, then cruely cast aside in favour of the PS1+Saturn and then the fickle media turned on the Saturn.
The Dreamcast? shot down based on Sony's on-paper tech claims, 75 Million Polys, even when developers like Free Radical were saying, IF it does 1/10th of that, we'll be amazed, the hype machine continued and Dreamcast seen as 'dead in the water'.
Gamecube had things like Eternal Darkness, MGS:Twin Snakes (which i found so much better than MGS 2), Res.Evil 0+Remake, Rogue Squadron etc, but seen as a toy compared to the uber cool PS2, just because it did'nt have (average) DVD playback, should'nt have made it any less serious a machine, visually it delivered the sort of games i was expecting my PS2 to deliver at the time (Rogue Squadron's rich textures, gorgeous detail etc, a far cry from the drab, poorly textured PS2 games i was seeing so often).
Think lot of reviewers have ideas what they consider 'cool and if your game or product does't fit within that concept of thiers, it's knee-jerk, mock it time.
Plus, web sites love a good negative story, gets people talking, word of mouth spreads, more hits to the site, flame war erupts on comments box, they bloody love it.

Wheres the "Like" button for this post!? You have nailed it. This is actually what I have witnessed in my 30 years as a gamer. You cant get any better than this summarization.
That's very kind of you to say.
I just rant away :-)
I was also thinking of when Doom came out and was (rightly) regarded as being like THE best thing ever, but then reviewers starting approaching everything that used a FPS perspective as being, well, it's a FPS, it'll be Doom, won't it?.
Well NO, because by then, PC's coming into their own as decent gaming platforms and consoles were having things like DSP chips put in carts or having 32 BIT RISC chips in them as standard and were capable of handling the sort of early 3D the SNES/MD in their 'pure' (ie non-enhanced) form, just could'nt handle, so developers were no longer restricted to setting a game in a 2D side scrolling enviroment, as they had in the home or arcade, so they had more scope than ever before.
So, Rebellion decide to do an Aliens game and want to do it on a new piece of kit, The Atari Jaguar and they want to take full advantage of the hardware, so use the FPS viewpoint, scan in wall textures from actual film props etc, for that extra degree of recreating the setting, sample audio from the films etc etc, all using the Jaguars ability to do images in 24 Bit colour, thus technically doing more than Doom was doing in that area, which worked as they were taking a totally different approach to a game than Doom with it's mix of guts, gore, shooting and puzzles.
AVP was going to be a slower paced, more atmospheric game, giving players a 3D viewpoint for the 1st time on an Aliens game.
Now a good few reviewers totally understood what Rebellion had done and praised them for the approach and NOT just copying Doom and chucking Aliens in.Instead, choice of all 3 key characters, mission objectives etc etc.
But sadly, a lot went WTF is this? it's slower than Doom, plays nothing like Doom, it's awful, buy Doom, Jaguar=shit etc etc.
Then come Alien Trilogy on PSone, with it's motion capture, CGI etc, media went OMG this islike sooo next gen (even though project had started out on Mega CD and they'd had same reaction to Loaded, which started out on SNES) and no reviewer suddenly went:
'Hang on, underneath all this, it's just Doom, but with Aliens, Aliens which don't even act like they do in the films, here they are just milling about, they look like lost children, where's the A.I?, why's it so dark? atmospheric, yes, but hampers gameplay, it's hard to spot foes.Plus, might be loads of Aliens, but i've so little ammo, i'd best avoid them, thus kinda defeating point of having them in a Doom clone'.
OR:
The Saturn/PSone scenario:
I was a day 1 PSone owner, loved it, essential purchase, but, media was nothing but gushing with praise for it's Polygon pushing power, lighting effects, texture mapping and the like, which were indeed ahead of it's time and suddenly, polys per second was where it was at!.
Nothing seemed to concern them that said polygons on PS1 warped at the edges and this WAS the reason Sega had the Saturn using Quads instead of polygons, ohh no, silly Sega, everyones using polys, look how stupid they are, quads, pff!, nor was the fact that if you wanted to save your game, you had to buy an extra (a memory card) something Saturn avoided by using battery back up.
Since 3D was everything and 2D was 'dead', Playstation 1's 2D abilities (not too hot, Ram limits etc) were glossed over and no-one in the media cared that actually you know what? the Jaguar and Saturn are actually bloody powerful 2D machines, (designed as all round work horses, rather than polygon pushing monsters) and just think of the arcade conversions alone that could finally be done justice on a home system!
Just think of all the CPS 1+2 games Capcom could do or Sega's Scaler coin-op's,or Data-East or...etc( plus with CD storage, no cart limits), great times ahead. But no, media had decided 3D was THe thing and anything that dared ventured outside that? was crap/under powered/bloody awful/who'd want 2D on a 32 Bit CD machine, that was for those (now) kids toys, the MD+SNES.
And since 3D was the bench mark, that's where Sega looked to for it's next gen console, the Dreamcast and likes of Capcom said, yep the 3D ability is fantastic on this new platform, but the 2D side, again whilst fantastic, IS'NT as great as we hoped or advised you on and Sony took one look and said:
Bwahhh Ha Ha, you call that a polygon count? our Next Gen Playstation will render 75 Million polygon's a second, compared to your punny 3 Million and not 1 magazine or website seemed to say ..hold on jut a cotton picking minute, you saying PS2 will be SO powerful, it'll make Sega's Model 3 arcade board look like something out of the ark and it'll retail at under $500, pull the other one, it's got (66 Million) polygons on!.
No, that was what Sony said and so what they had no actual, honest to god GAMES footage to back the claims up, look heres a ducky in a bath, OMG a pre-rendered sequence etc etc, Dreamcast has been killed off over night. How could Sega combat the supposed power of something no-one had seen games running on, with actual here and now, running on the system games?.
Like fighting a Giant with a pea-shooter, but point here is, media were either to afraid or too caught up in the HYPE to apply common sense and say, something sounds so far removed from reality here, 75 million polys, emotions in games? the top range Silicon Graphics workstations, yes, but look at the price they go for, you just cannot deliver that in a sub $500 console, has the N64 claims taught us NOTHING?.
The hilarious and usually brilliant Ashens has reviews the Neo Geo X now, he didn't like it very much . . . . . .

Latest issue of Retro Gamer has a 2 page review of the system, they didn't like it much.
I bought one of these a few weeks ago and have read plenty of reviews for it - mostly bad !
There are certainly a few small issues with it, however in the main I am delighted with it. I bought a second arcade joystick with it and have been playing most of the games in 2 player mode with my son. Yes of course, the graphics on a 32" HD TV look a bit naff but the games are donkeys years old. The playability of them is superb and having the console permanently connected to one of the HDMI ports is a real bonus.
Away from the "docking station" element, the handheld part of it is also a fairly reasonable piece of kit. It's not of the same quality of say a Sony Vita but it is still pretty good. This thing is all about the games and the Neo Geo X is a great system for playing them on.
It cost me around £174 from Amazon and of course included 21 games. Take into account those, plus the docking station console, a great handheld device and an arcade joystick and I think it represents good VFM.
In case anyone in the US is interested, the Neo Geo X dropped to $100 clearance a couple weeks ago at Best Buy. It's sold out online but it's also $100 in stores until they're gone.

I've been to the stores in Miami but they don't have them anywhere. I have to keep checking more stores in the area. I'm going to Orlando next week and I'm going to check there as well.
I might be interested if you find any?

If I find any, I may just have to buy them and check back.Â

Same as
I need to keep checking the Best Buy stores in the area. The closest ones don't have them anywhere. I'll let you know if I find any.
No worries fella
More Neo Geo X classics arriving June 6
(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/neo-geo.jpg)
Those looking to play some new games on their Neo Geo X consoles can now preorder five volumes on Amazon for $25 each that, in total, include 15 of the system's classic games. Neo Geo X owners also have the option to pay $80 for a Mega Pack that contains all 15 games. The game packs will be available on June 6, according to Amazon's listings.
While we knew these games were coming, here's how they are spread out across the five volumes:
Volume 1: Sengoku, Metal Slug 2, Top Hunter
Volume 2: Samurai Shodown 3, Savage Reign, Super Sidekicks 3
Volume 3: The King of Fighters '96, Blazing Star, Kizuna Encounter
Volume 4: Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Shock Troopers, World Heroes 2 Jet
Volume 5: The Last Blade, Blue's Journey, Art of Fighting 3
Volume 1 & 4 are a must have, I really need to get one of these!
None to be found at any Best Buy in Miami. I'll check in Orlando next week and I've asked a friend who lives in Pennsylvania to check for me.
At £25 a pack for 3 roms for the UK I don't think I'll be anywhere near this!
So Neo-Geo games with extra features cost £5.49 each on PS Store, 3 roms that haven't been touched on NGX cost £8.33 each....the set should be £15 not £25!
I see the 15 game pack for the UK is £59.99 which is £4 a game is alot better, but then you are getting some games you don't really want...
The folks from RetroCollect have just published a review of the NeoGeo X:Â Hardware Review: Neo Geo X (//http)
Quote from: "TrekMD"The folks from RetroCollect have just published a review of the NeoGeo X:Â Hardware Review: Neo Geo X (//http)
That review is by the very same guy responsible for the notorious 'NES Collector's Guide' from Retro Gamer magazine issue 101 and, more recently, the faked screenshot for Street Fighter II on Virtual Boy so suffice to say I won't be wasting my time reading it!
Looks like there won't be any more Neo Geo X:Â Termination of the License Agreement between TOMMO Inc. and SNK PLAYMORE USA CORP. (//http)
Sounds like the two companies must have had a falling out but I'm not sure if that's the end of the product, SNK could always find another company to distribute the console and games. Guess it depends on how many of these they sold and if there is still demand for them. Has anybody seen any sales figures for this?
I haven't seen any sales figures. It seems to not have had a price reduction in several places (like Amazon) but in others (like Best Buy) they cleared them. So, it's hard to judge. Whatever happened, the notice does not sound very friendly.Â
No it definitely doesn't sound friendly!
Well, whatever the sales figures were, you can add one more to it cause I just bought oneÂ

In Canada we have a electronics chain called Future Shop who is actually owned by Best Buy and they are selling them for $100. I figured for that price and with 20 games built in that's 5 bucks a game so might as well grab one while they are still selling them.
Well this could be the right time to purchase one, as if they've stopped making them , they may become a sought after handheld, as it wasn't like it flopped, so they could be rare later on, but without sales figures, you wouldn't be able to judge the level of rarity down the line.
A friend of mine has the gold edition with the big joypad and etc..And he loves it, and has also unlocked it with the custom firmware to allow title which can't be purchased run on it, but says it will only play Neo-Geo games nothing more, which I feel is a missed opportunity , yet the defunct Game Gadget can? And they are £35 nowÂ
Yeah there's people on ebay trying to sell them for double or even triple what I paid but that doesn't really give an indication of rarity as there are always idiots doing that. Time will tell I guess.
It's the limited edition I got too so it comes with the handheld, docking station, arcade stick, and the game Ninja Masters along with the 20 pre-loaded games. Sounds like a good deal to me!
Sounds like you got a bargain, Shadowrunner!
I always dread news like this every gaming generation. History has shown, that marketshare is never big enough to support more then three console makers or handheld devices.
I've not been able to find one on Best Buy here in Miami. If they sell it for $100 I'm grabbing it.Â
I would still quite like one of these too, hopefully they find a new partner.
Well, if they find a new partner, let's hope it is someone who makes better units. From all that I've read, the build quality on the current system is not very good. That's why I've not been in a rush to get it.
Me too.. Its not the distro i am concerned with as i would happily buy from FunStock.co.uk but i can not justify £170 when Shadowrunner paid $100CAD and in our monies thats around £60.. Anyone in Canada want to hook me up lol?
I was thinking about asking if anyone wanted me to pick one up for them but I just checked and they have a limit of one per household. I could set up phony accounts but they would all be going to the same address so I don't think it would work.
Maybe they will drop the price in the UK too?
Quote from: "TrekMD"Looks like there won't be any more Neo Geo X:Â Termination of the License Agreement between TOMMO Inc. and SNK PLAYMORE USA CORP. (//http)
Taken from that SNK Playmore statement,
QuoteRegarding customer support for any/all of the Licensed Products, please contact the retail store / online retailer from which the product(s) were purchased.
Ouch. So SNK Playmore licensed it to another company and are now publicly washing their hands of any and all responsibility for the product should any customers who bought one encounter problems with the device and need advice. Classy.Â
After SNK Playmore revealed the the licence for the Neo Geo X it shared with Tommo had been terminated, Tommo has hit back with its own claim.
Tommo reveals that the success of the console caused SNK Playmore to extend the agreement between the two companies earlier in the year to 2016, and Tommo expects SNK Playmore to stick to this agreement.
It continues to state that under current agreements, Tommo will continue to stock the Neo Geo X and its related items until the new licence runs out.
Will be interesting to see what SNK Playmore say about this. You can read Tommo's response on THEIR WEBSITE (//http).
Well my Neo Geo X arrived yesterday and I spent some time trying it out last night.
The handheld itself looks great and is very comfortable to hold and play games on. The d pad is just like the ones on the Neo Geo CD pads which is awesome and the buttons are a good size so overall I'm quite happy with it.
I also tried playing it on my TV with the base unit and joystick and it also works really good and looks great through HDMI.
I do have a few complaints but they're mostly minor. The power cord is pretty cheaply made and the cable on the joystick is very short. It also would have been nice if the handheld had just a little bit more weight to it.
Also you can hook the handheld directly to your TV without using the base unit, but the only way to charge it is through the base unit. The charging port on it is exactly the same as my cell phone charger but the instruction manual was very specific about not charging it with any other device so I didn't try it, but it seems kinda dumb that you can't charge a portable device away from home. I'm going to look around online and see if anyone has tried charging it another way or if that really is the only way.
I have a lot of the games on this for my Neo Geo CD already but it's a Japanese unit so it's nice to actually be able to read the text in these games and have english voices for a change. I think if I'd paid full price for this I wouldn't be quite as happy but for $100 I can't complain and I'm glad I bought it
I just got one today!!! I'm so stoked! I was at Edward McKay used Books and More store, with my son (we never made it to B&N) and I was chewing the fat with the video game manager, and when I said that one of my dream systems was the Neo Geo, he said "ever heard of the Gold system?" YES! He JUST got one in, and it was $130...checked Amazon.com, and YES!!! I have been dreaming of this since I first discovered it's existance this summer.
Awesome! It's a great little system and you got it for a good priceÂ
They've come down in price then. They used to be more expensive on Amazon before. Good deal!
are you guys sure I got a good price, because since then i've found ppl that got it for $88 and even $50...but I don't feel ripped off, I just wonder if i could have haggled a lower price.
Corrrection: The $50 was JUST an additional joystick.
Hey, do other USB joysticks work?
Is there ONLY one MEGA PACK?
There's a BETTER deal than I got, i didn't see it, but it's a HOLIDAY bundle:
NeoGeoGoldX AND the MegaPack with free shipping at Amazon.com
oh well, it's all good.
The normal price is $180 or higher so you didn't get a bad deal. That holiday deal is still going on Amazon?!
yep

it just came in the mail...and I am STOKED!!!
Very nice, very nice, very nice!Â
Any word of MEGA PACK 2?
Doubt it will ever happen with the fallout mate.
Fallout? What Fallout? I'm enjoying it...are there ppl not enjoying it?
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/blaze-and-tommo-fight-back-in-neo-geo-x-dispute/0122245 (//http)
The NeoGeo X is no longer being made. That's the fallout Zapiy is referring to. I doubt we'll see anything new game-wise because of that.
Well they are supposedly looking for a new partner, so wait and see.
Here's hoping because I want to get one of these!Â
There are loads out there thats for sure...
i hope they can sort-it-out, i really like this, and i want to get more, even if it's only 1 MEGAPACK per quarter. I mean, 15 games goes a long way.
UPGRADING is NOT working.
Watched a video on Youtube, and he mentioned that he already had firmware 370, and those that have 337 (THAT IS ME) have to send their's to the company and wait 3-4 weeks for them to fix it...this is going to suck. I checked their webpage...it hasn't been updated since June of 2013...this is not looking hopeful.
There's a firmware update required?
i think it's required in order to play the megapack
Hmm, and you can't get it. It's not online anywhere?
not to my knowledge
I ran a search and, apparently, a number of units will not upgrade the firmware. There is apparently a v500 of the firmware also that is even newer.Â
according to the guy on the Youtube video, the ones with Firmware 337 (mine) are screwed, the ones with 370 will upgrade to 500. I think the company should send me the patch that gaps 337 to 370, or all the way up to newest.
I can't run ANY of the new 15 Mega Pack games without the upgrade...i tried.
That sucks. I've been thinking of ordering one of these but now I'm concerned about this issue.
Yeah that really sucks! I updated the firmware on mine and never had a problem. Hopefully you can get it fixed.
I sent them an email, but i have little hope since their own website hasn't changed in half a year...makes me wonder if they have moved on, and have abandoned the website.
Let us know what happens. Hopefully, you get a reply.
That sucks indeed. I have a contact. Will see what I can sort out.
Quote from: "zapiy"That sucks indeed. I have a contact. Will see what I can sort out.
You know people at SNK Playmore?
At the distro houses.
they sent a print-out to mail it, i just have to print it at WORK (i have no printer) and get this done ASAP, we have more snow heading in soon.
Neo Geo X Magic SD Card Adapter - Leftover Culture Review (//http)[/align:fyxgf9al]
Hmm... i wasnt aware of that Magic Card, makes it a lot more appealing now!!
That looks cool!
I really want one now.
I was excited when I heard about a new Neo Geo console but after trying it I have to say it doesn't deserve to spend money on it, it's sad but it's the reality...
The emulator is not good, even with the update they released, MAME is way better than this, spot on honestly. Also, the portable quality build is really cheap and several people had problems with the screen or the stick.
I'd recommend a NeoCD if you want to play on real hardware and buy games for cheap but the best option is a MVS, it does not have the charm and is not as colectable as an AES but the games are most of the times cheaper and it's cart based so you don't have loading times.
Now £124.99 with the megapack from Funstock (//http)
Considering getting one at that proce now.
I'd give it a few more months, the price will bottom out pretty soon. Not a very good bit of kit by all accounts.
Some on here actually rate it. Proof is in the pudding.
I love mine, just not sure if they ever brought out any more game SD cards...

Getting cheaper.
Once it hits £50 you can count me inÂ
Lol. One day probably. Just not for another year I would say and even then that's huge drop. I am tempted.

£89.99 now
No joystick though so not much point?
Well spotted, good job i did not just click and buy lol.

For what this system is....
Oh, I think it gets the job done.
I've been debating whether or not to get one of these. It does look pretty nice and it seems to do work well enough.
I was thinking the same thing. It is a cheaper alternative then the original.
Yes, it is and it does look nice.Â

Â
Prices are dropping all the time.
Here's a new video looking at this system. I never did get one when first released. Now getting one costs a pretty penny.
