At least Sony hasnt ripped off Europe with its pricing unlike SNK did with the NeoGeo mini, shame with all these minis is they dont have removable storage and an online store to add more.

Cracking news and I'm sure it will sell by the bucket loads..

Saw this today, so the only tempting thing to get one is the HDMI and the size, but if it’s restricted to the 20 games they announced and you cannot buy or play originals, I’d rather use my old one. Probably there’s an adapter existing for it.

Anyhow, I play my PSX games on the PS3, with smoothing.

Looks very nice and it's also a cool "mini" but the fact that it only has 20 games makes it less attractive.  No doubt it will sell boatloads, though!

It's going to depend on the final game list, but at this point I really don't see myself buying one. A lot of PS1 games really haven't aged well and the lack of analogue controllers and no rumble means some of the better games just won't be the same. It's also a little expensive compared to the NES and SNES mini consoles.

I play the PS1 games on the PS2 Slim that I have.  I think the notion of this is cool but the implementation may fall short.

Well they finally announced the full list of games.

And with that I can say I won't be getting one. There's some good ones here but most of the games I'd play out of this list I already own. I actually like the Japanese list better. If Arc the Lad 1 and 2, G Darius and Gradius Gaiden were on the English console I'd be much more tempted to get one.

Plus they have Parasite Eve.

Plenty of people have cancelled since the announcement.

Hardly surprising.

While the NES and SuperNES Classics had solid titles that are hard to dispute on the selections they made (and they had control because many were first party games), perhaps Sony was limited by licensing restrictions.

It otherwise seems obvious that these games should have been included:

A Tomb Raider game

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Probably Twisted Metal 2 instead of 1

The original Street Fighter 2 Collection or a Megaman game (but probably were barred from this by Capcom as they released the 30th Anniversary set not long ago)

Doom and/or Final Doom

Einhander (or another shmup)

Mortal Kombat Trilogy

Possibly even MechWarrior 2 or Descent would have been a decent addition.

I do think Wild Arms has one of the best intros of all time, so glad that is there.

I won't be buying it as I don't want to play my pre 2008 games on anything but a CRT. The few titles I would want on this can be all bought together for the same or less than this system and I'd rather play on my original PS. I don't feel this will sell that well.

The original Playstation was a wonderful system though with a memorable boot sequence.

Sony dropped the ball with this imo, i know it will still sell in bucketloads, but it will miss the massmarket sales, for starters its already £30-£40 more than nes/snes mini, those low prices help with impulse buys and smaller xmas gifts, £100 is really pushing it, which may have been saved by some real classic games on there, until Sony revealed the full lineup that is!

Im a gamer and a collector, but even i wouldnt pay £70 for this due to the awful games on there, had they the foresight to take a gamble and include an online store and wifi module so people can download new games to sd cards (Sony know this will be hacked so i dont buy the ‘its too risky’ to do that scenerio.

But really all they needed to do was repackage the vita tv into the new moulding and its already good to go, must be thousands sitting in warehouses anyway!

Could've been great and should've been great. Really is disappointing.

Sometimes one has to wonder, what were they thinking?!?!?

A lot of people are saying the same thing. Metal Jesus did a video yesterday about cancelling his pre-order for the system and his reasons why and it already has 165000 views!

The outcry is getting very loud, to the point where I wonder if Sony will say or do anything about it. Too late to change the game list but maybe they could drop the price a bit?

Seems like a nice mix of games. Never was a big fan of Sony or the Playstation till the Playstation Portable came out. The PSP is a very nice handheld.

They could have added some Road Rash games and if not maybe some sports games would have been a nice touch. I may be off but I thought Sony made some good American football games, under the 989 studios.

Thanks and yes it has. Had some rough patches like Sony but hoping to return in classic style. :D

Early reviews are starting to come out and it turns out the game list is just one of many problems.

Here's a good video I just watched.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKawjqZ43KQ

Highlights:

Very basic interface with no extras
Poor emulation quality
9 of the 20 games on it are Pal versions and therefore slower
Only one save slot per game

I don't think Sony could have screwed this up more if they tried!

It will be interesting to see the sales numbers a month or so after launch, how many people will take a pass on this? I know im not dishing out a 100 dollars for this.

OK, if anyone got one of these, you have to read this article:  How to hack your PlayStation Classic for more games (https://www.alphr.com/sony/1010324/how-to-hack-your-playstation-classic-for-more-games).  It makes the system worth having.  :)

It seems Sony left some code exposed that allows for this.  Good thing someone discovered it.

Yeah it was only a matter of time till it got hacked. I was looking at after Christmas sales and Best Buy had them $50 off already. Wait a bit longer and you might be able to get one really cheap.
Title: Re: Playstation Classic Announced

Yes, I'm waiting for these to hit that glorious bargain bin at half price, and then we'll inject it with the poison and play those classics in 60hz with accompanied crt scan lines. It will be what it should have been.

Well it took a while but they are really trying to clear these out now!

Not sure what these are selling for internationally but locally Best Buy is selling them for $29.99 and The Source has them at $19.99! I might actually get one now.

OK guys, these are selling for $20 at Target.  Worth the $20?!?!?
Title: Re: Playstation Classic Announced

I picked one up for about $25 shipped. I played it one time. Honestly, I found the Playstation graphics look terrible on an HD television. Really just absolutely awful. Washed out and the polygon edges do not look nice upscaled. Video intros on a variety of games have extreme pixel artifacts. As far as a collector item, it looks nice sitting on a shelf and perhaps you can use the USB controllers for use on a computer or some other system. All I could think of while playing was "I want to play an original Playstation instead."

If this would have simply had component out so you could play it on a CRT television it would have been 8x times better. It really would have. I'm a CRT die hard though, and essentially stopped watching TV in 2008 when the broadcast changed as I highly dislike flat panel displays as the angle of viewing is bad, and black levels are bad. I know they are getting much better now, but the TV technology era from 2008 to 2016 or so was just not good I thought.

Sounds like it may not be worth even the $20?  I can't believe they were selling them for $60 originally!

A friend of mine also has one. We were literally using the box as a door stop to hold the door to his game room open when moving some video arcade and pinball games in and out. So it did get some usage.

I thought the game play was ok, I guess it really is that the graphics don't transfer well to an HD television. I can't really blame Sony for that. It's just a product that doesn't work on today's displays. Again, let us connect it to a CRT and I think 85% of my issues would go away and it would be a much more pleasant experience, especially with all the mods that are available for the system.

Maybe if these classic series of consoles would work on a CRT it would also increase demand for them and reduce the waste in landfills.

So far I have around 10.000 games on mine, using RetroArch, and with the newest 1.7.7 release it's quite stable, before I got a lot of freezing when closing content. I'm happy with it, not playing so many PSX games anyways, concentrated more on even more retro.

I don’t understand how any of these “mini systems”sell??my understanding is it’s just emulation, there’s plenty of emulators out there for free

Yeah, but you can hook it up to the beamer or TV via HDMI, no need to plug a laptop to it. Plus I only own one, not buying every single "mini" console released.

Sounds like you have yours set up nicely and it probably works great for a wide variety of games you have on it. The Playstation controllers are really nice controllers to use. I may look into modifying mine in the future. I have an HDMI widescreen CRT and I'm going to try it on that again to see how the graphics compare with my earlier testing on an LCD style TV.
