Love mine! It's seriously close to my favourite console, along with the Megadrive.

Loads of great seu's on it, mostly japanese, but they are worth tracking down, Under Defeat, Ikaruga, Giga Wing 2 and Border Down spring to mind.

Too many other great games to list here, still cant believe the last official game was in March 2007! thats nearly 10 years it was officially supported, unofficially games are still coming out, so far 11 releases with 2 more planned for this year, have you guys seen Gun-Lord and especially Sturmwind? They look stunning (well i know The Laird will have ;)

i've only just started my Dreamcast collection, but some great info below - especially about new games.

usual suspects so far: Crazy Taxi, Powerstone, MSR

(Are there any cheaper, less cult Dreamcast games that are fun to play but are common - I see stuff like HeadHunter about a bit - but don't just want to buy fillers for my collection - but I am open to the idea of fun
games that aren't perfect)

The best thing about the Dreamcast is that they'll play back-ups of games (most of them anyway).
Ultimately this was a bad thing at the time but it's great for trying out some of the
rarer stuff.
I still buy original DC games but if it's going to be a more expensive purchase
I can DL it and try it out first.

Anyway, regardless of this, these are my favs..
Shenmue 1 & 2
Metropolis Street Racer
Virtua Tennis 1 & 2
Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX
Daytona USA 2001
Jet Set Radio
RE Code Veronica
Soul Calibur
Under Defeat
Ikaruga
Rez

Just had another thought. It's not exactly a "must have" because to some,
it'll seem the worst game ever but.........Tokyo Bus Guide is superb.

Only had my Dreamcast for a week, but these are my picks so far:

Sonic Adventure 2 - After playing this loads recently, i would defo recommend this as a must have for any sonic or general platform fans. Great varied gameplay, with a decent difficulty curve and loads of hours of gameplay through the Hero and Dark story modes.

Jet Set Radio - A really original and mould breaking game that manages to fuse a few different genres well and has hours of playability and gameplay, really ahead of its time.

Fire Pro Wrestling D - One for wrestling fans really, but it has a massive roster, loads of different match types and is easy to pick up and play and yet its quite in depth in terms of the move list and fighting style. A lot of thought and work has gone into each character to make their likeness and mannerisms.

Im pretty sure i will add to this list in the coming weeks and months as my collection grows and would appreciate some recommendations

It got a 7.9 when IGN reviewed, its fully editable and looks quite good from the youtube videos. Might pick it up as it goes for about £4 on ebay

I think if anyone is going to dive into Dreamcast importing there are some nice US import (didn't get a PAL release) titles that should be considered;

Alien Front Online
Ooga Booga
Bomberman
D2
Illbleed
4x4 Evolution
EGG

Jimmy White's Cueball keeps being mentioned. It must be good. I like the Bass fishing, Test Drive series, Tony Hawk and Wacky Races

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. Best version of the game by far

thought I'd try my hand at a new list of must haves for the DC. You truly have to own/play these games to understand the potential the console had

Shenmue 1/2
Skies Of Arcadia
Headhunter
Sonic Adventure 1/2
Soul Calibur
Virtua Tennis 1/2
Phantasy Star Online ver 2.0
Outtrigger
Quake 3 Arena
Grandia 2
Capcom VS SNK 1/2
Dynamite Cop
Powerstone 1/2
Ikaruga
Jet Set Radio
Metropolis Street Racer

The list of TRULY quality/stand out titles on the DC is astounding and I could go on forever but those should get anyone who wants to get into it going nicely. Games like Headhunter and Shenmue 2 show just how incredible the system was for its time

I never knew D2 didn't get a Pal release. For me that's one of my favorites on the Dreamcast, highly recommend it.

Yeah I guess it goes both ways, we missed out on some good ones in NA too. We didn't get Headhunter, Evil Twin, or Shenmue 2 just to name a few.

yeah.... not really level though mate lol, I mean yeah you didn't get Headhunter or Shenmue or Evil Twin but there are about 2 dozen that we didn't get AND that doesn't include the useless non online ports we got stiffed on, PAL region got absolutely shat all over during the official Dreamcast days

nah its cool it was rather strange how sega handled things but I could list dozens of DC games that never hit our shores

Test Drive 6
Ooga Booga
Bomberman Online
Armada
Seventh Cross Evolution
4x4 Evolution
Giga Wing 2
Gundam Side Story 0079
Illbleed
Mars Matrix
Last Blade 2
Prince Of Persia Arabian Nights
Reel Fishing Wild
Sega Bass Fishing 2
Sega Marine Fishing
Seaman
Maximum Pool
Virtual On Oratorio Tangram

Those are just the ones I own and know about! lol, crazy huh? Anyway its cool I was just trying to emphasize that we did get pretty shafted over here

Crazy Taxi 2 I thought was very good, certainly the graphics were awesome, but I never got too far into it when I first had it. Need to play it again some day

Here's the ones I spend most time on:

Gigawing Mad shmup with mad unpronounceable scores. Great fun and the rechargeable shield makes for very skilful play.
Gunbird 2 My favourite vertical DC shmup. Great design and the different characters play differently so provide loads of replay. The coin chaining mechanic adds to the score chasing too.
Pro Pinball Trilogy This looks simply stunning via VGA. Really deep pinball play on 3 detailed tables. Very slick.
PenPen Ok so its a bit light on content but I really like the mix up of styles and the courses get really good later on in the game.
Virtua Tennis (1&2) Brilliant arcade tennis. I use this as my June office tourney game played through a projector with the arcade sticks. Epic - accessible and deep for the experts.
Mr Driller Addictive as anything you will find. Beautifully presented too.
Cannon Spike Short but wildly addictive and so replayable. Feels indulgent and luxurious as there's loads of fan service.
Caesers Palace 2000 Niche product but does what it does so very well. Blackjack and video poker - the only skill games you can get in a casino are presented very well with plenty of options and a coaching mode.
Outtrigger I'm not an FPS fan but I love this. Comes to life with the keyboard and mouse.
Bangai-O More genius from Treasure. Lovely looks and the risk/reward mechanic is great. Nutty Japanese presentation is the icing on the cake.
Rez DC is the home of Rez - gorgeous via VGA.
Sega Rally 2 Stutters a bit until you use the VGA box. Horribly addictive and that great slidey control.
Daytona 2001 My favourite racing game anywhere. Just has the Sega magic. I love the look, the sounds, the tracks and that trademark Sega blue, sparkling sky.
Typing of the Dead Sheer Sega genius. Noone else would have dreamt this up - I miss Sega. I use this as the Halloween office tourney event - a brilliant 2 player versus mode that is really well thought out.
Hydro Thunder Big, daft boat racing with dodgy, cheesy presentation (pity its 50Hz only in PAL) but I love it.
4 wheel Thunder Lovely OTT racing game with some enjoyable battle mode style 2 player games.
Street Fighter (Alpha 3 , III 3rd strike) Gorgeous fighters with a bewildering array of options I will never understand but I love the fact that I own these games.

I still wish the Flintstones was released in the U.S.
