Alex is a member of UKVaC, i have done some previous stories on his find in recent months but this latest one has blew my mind, we are all retro fans right? Regardless if its home system based or arcade based and this story needs to be told in case any of you have missed it.. I remember playing these way back when and until Alex posted about these recently i had completely forgotten there existance, feast your eyes on these beauties, Alex intends to take his time and restore them to there previous glories and we shall follow thar process and update you.

Game design by gunpei yokoi & Genyo Takeda
This game is quite amazing, not for the gameplay, but for its 16mm film projector. The film is running on several rollers and is a big loop. The film consists of two halves. The upper portion with the gameplay (planes) is thrown via a mirror on the screen. The lower portion has black and white target areas. This area is being projected via another mirror on a phototrans. The machine gun has a lamp inside the cab aiming through the targets. Simple but efficient.  The game runs for 90 seconds and if the player gets a perfect score he or she gets another go.

QuoteThese games that i own came came from a U.S air base in Germany where they stood with other games from that era for 30-40 years, they were brought by a collector on the Dragons lair forum last year were he sold them to me.

I brought two so if one was incomplete i could use the other as a donor. On first impressions the both looked in disrepair and my heart sank, but once i got inside i was surprised to see how well persevered they both were and most importantly both films were intact.

What was even more amazing was i had only purchased Sky hawk as well Shocked i could not believe my luck inside the second cab was sky hawk art work and film.  These cabinets are very rare and i believe there are only 5 in existence.  But i have no idea how many sky hawks there are left.

So this week i finally got the machines closer to were are live where my good friend Ian is looking after them. So tonight i only just got to have a more in depth look at them. My fist job is to clean the cabinet and film and try and get the film out and any art work that needs to be duplicated.  But tonight i just spent a couple of hours referring to the manual which was found inside the cab being used as bedding for some little soul and working out how the machine works.  I have measured the film and its 16m long and 16mm wide single perforation with sound track.I need to clean it before it comes out to reduce scratching and get it ready for duplication.  I also took the Art work of the battle ship picture out of the machine which is used as a sort of attract screen ready for scanning.  It would be nice to find out what ship it is,if any of you second world war buffs know ?

Any way that's it so far,its a small start to a exciting restoration & i am confident i can bring the game back to its former glory days.

Never seen an arcade game like that before, very cool! He's got a lot of work ahead of him but I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

Really neat!

I can recall a similar arcade game from the same time but my memory says the cabinet was blue. Not sure if it is the same or another game.
