There is a fairly new arcade/pool hall that has opened in Southend on Sea town centre called Astro City. They have a mixture of retro and more modern machines as well as fruit machines and a couple of pusher machines.

They also run the occasional retro all-nighter, Nintendo Street Pass events, Rhythm gamming events (Dance Dance Revolution etc..). There is also a café/bar selling refreshments and a Jukebox.

Astro City (//http)

Here is a list of some of the retro arcade machines that they have.

Gauntlet
Pac Man
Donkey Kong
Street Fighter 2
Street Fighter: Third Strike
Pac-Land
Gauntlet Legends
The Simpsons (2 player Jamma cab)
Super Mario Bros.
WWF Wrestlemania
House of the Dead 3
Fighting Mania
Daytona USA

There are also some Japanese bullet hell shoot 'em up's in Naomi Cabinets but I'm not sure of the names.
Anyway, this is a great little addition to the existing arcades in Southend so please visit them.

That's cool!  We have arcade machines at movie theaters and certain types of restaurants in the that cater to entertainment for families.

A curious question for you Trek, do they have any Chuckie Cheese restaurants near you etc and if so, do they have any classic arcade games in them? Isn't Chuckie cheese about video games and eating? Just curious about the or if anyone else here who lives in the States tell us about any vintage or modern arcades near were you live.

There are a few chains like it.  We do have Chuckie Cheese and Dave & Busters.  I don't go there often but they did still have classic arcade machines when I last visited.  They certainly do at the movie theaters.  I just checked the Dave & Busters page and they do list classic games:  http://www.daveandbusters.com/games/play-for-fun/ (http://www.daveandbusters.com/games/play-for-fun/)

Arcade club! http://www.arcade-club.com (http://www.arcade-club.com) sadly only open on a Saturday evening, based near Blackburn !

They've just gone from a small place to a big place, £10 to get in, all machines are set to free to play with refreshments thrown in free!

Not really an arcade in the purist sense, but if anyone's ever in Bristol centre there's a place called Kongs. It's one of those funky bar type places. There are 3 or 4 arcade cabs to play on.

http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/kongs-of-kings-street-bristol (http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/kongs-of-kings-street-bristol)

I usually have a couple of goes on Donkey Kong when I go in there. I've always been pretty bad at it and struggle to get past level 4, but that's probably due to the amount of beer consumed...

But we need to do a meet up which was mentioned before!

Also, they can do private hire too and are looking to expand too, give them support guys even for one night :D

Went to a local bowling place today ( named Hollywood bowl ) they had this!

A Mario kart arcade racer, a rip off really, 1 race for £1! Thought you could have At least had a full cup race, but you do have you picture taken at the beginning for the leader boards!

So if you have a bowling place near you it's probably a gold mine of arcade machines like this!

There's also "The Heart of Gaming" in West Acton in London.  They rescued a few arcade cabs from the now sadly defunct "Casino Arcade" in London.

See the following :-

Last year, they were robbed of a few cabs.  I think there was a campaign to replace them.

People starting up these retro arcades as a business are REALLY bad news because you can't buy decent used arcade machines anywhere now. I have been looking for a few classic machines including a sit down Out Run but not even the rip-off merchants you find on google have one.

I don't like this because when all these companies go bust the machines will all be scrapped after being repossed. STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
