Title: Nintendo DS Discussion Thread
Post by: TrekMD on March 06, 2014, 03:03:15 AM
We haven't started a thread about the Nintendo DS, so it is time to start one since I'm sure there are members here with the system.  This has clearly been a highly successful system for Nintendo that still continues to have new titles released.  Here is some information on the system from the Wikipedia page:

[font=georgia:2991laea]The Nintendo DS is a dual-screen handheld game console developed and released by Nintendo. The device went on sale in North America on November 21, 2004. The DS, short for "Developers' System" or "Dual Screen", introduced distinctive new features to handheld gaming: two LCD screens working in tandem, the bottom one featuring a touchscreen, a built-in microphone, and support for wireless connectivity. Both screens are encompassed within a clamshell design similar to the Game Boy Advance SP. The Nintendo DS also features the ability for multiple DS consoles to directly interact with each other over Wi-Fi within a short range without the need to connect to an existing wireless network. Alternatively, they can interact online using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.

Prior to its release, the Nintendo DS was marketed as a "third pillar" in Nintendo's console lineup, meant to complement the Game Boy Advance and GameCube. However, backward compatibility with Game Boy Advance titles and strong sales ultimately established the new handheld console as the successor to the Game Boy series. On March 2, 2006, Nintendo launched the Nintendo DS Lite, a slimmer and lighter redesign of the original Nintendo DS with brighter screens. On November 1, 2008, Nintendo released the Nintendo DSi, another redesign with several hardware improvements and new features. As of December 31, 2013, all Nintendo DS models combined have sold 153.98 million units, making it the best selling handheld game console to date, and the second best selling video game console of all time.[/font:2991laea]

Here is a video that looks at the various versions of the Nintendo DS that have been released over the years...

I have a DS Lite.  I got it for free, so I can't complain.  I think I need to update my collection thread with that and the PSP collections.  :)

I enjoy it for the multi-cart racing liking Mario Kart and Cars. Some of my favorite single player games are Ridge Racer, Carnival Games and Wacky Races. Played Namco Museum a lot but tired after awhile. More games could have been included to up the replay value.

Namco Museum is one of the games that I have for it.  I have a somewhat limited library for the DS itself, actually.

I have an original model and about a dozen games. I mainly used it to play all the Castlevania games but I still use it once in awhile to play GBA games.

I had a DSi XL but as much as I tried to like it I just never got that much enjoyment out of the machine, some good retro compilations but the machine just never grabbed me the way the Lynx did. So once I got a 3DS I sold it, as just became redundant (as Zapiy said). However the 3DS is amazing, easily my second favourite handheld after the mighty Lynx!  :8:

Love my DS Lite. Especially with it's M3 card.

Quite fancy a 3ds but will wait for the kids to ask for one.
