Title: The Evolution of Retro Billiards/Pool/Snooker Games
Post by: TrekMD on January 10, 2014, 21:23:59 PM
Alright, let's have a look at another type of game and it has evolved over time.  This time we'll look at billiards (pool/snooker) and we'll start with what are essentially two versions of the same game...

I have Trick Shot and enjoyed it thoroughly way back when, but have never heard of Billiard for VCS.

Billiard and Trick Shot on the 2600 are essentially the same game with colors changed by two different publishers.  Trick Shot was published my Imagic and was the original version of the game. Billiard was some other minor publisher.  Now let's look at...

Intellivision

Deep Pockets
Deep Pockets - Super Pro Pool & Billiards - Intellivision (//http)[/align:10nxak21]

Deep Pockets is the only billiards game for the Intellivision that I've seen.  It's a homebrew title by IntelligentVision.  It's not an easy one to find now.

I thought about posting Deep Pockets, but did not know if it technically was in the 'evolution' of retro billiards games. I think it was released only a few years ago, right? So, if a game, even for an oldie like Intellivision, released fairly recent, is it considered to have played a part in the evolutionary cycle for a particular genre of games?

Even though it is a recent release, it is still a release on a retro system, so I like to consider them as well.  After all, it does show the evolution of programming for that console.  :)

Had the ST version of that back in the day and still do. I also own the Mega Drive version too, but it's best played with a mouse.

Cool to see those NES titles!  I guess you can only do pool so many ways, though.

Isn't there a version that is played on an octagonal table with bumpers in the middle?

Here is what a bumper pool table looks like. I just do not know the rules of the game.

Those both look very good.  Funny how you have hands but no body on Cueball.  It feels like Rayman is playing!  LOL
