I was thinking, but maybe it would be a cliché, as there is lots of gaming / other forums doing this, but what a about a Gaming Arcade up top, with flash versions of old classics games can be played, and maybe be able to hold a RVG Tournaments etc.. here at the site? could be good, as there is some fantastic remakes out there. But I wouldn't go over board with them.. too many games to play = No posting activities.

Another Ieda that's come to mind, what a review section for IOS retro related remakes, there are allot of classic games been now remade for Ipad / Itouch & Iphone, say a review of a game eg. battle Squadron (Amiga) has been ported to IOS device, and compare it to the original one?

just a simply Idea of a V.S. review on this subject

This is more of a request for content but do we have a.beginners guide to x.thread or section.

What I mean if I wanted to start collecting Jaguar for.instance, why price should I be paying, what dealers are reputable, what issues should I be were of etc etc

I know we have 'best game' threads but this more of factual info if that makes sense.

Happy to add my own knowledge where I can and apologies if we have this already and I've missed it!

Actually a great idea. Perhaps we should knock up a Buyers Guide.

Yeah, that's a great idea!  There is so much conflicting information out there, and so many unscrupulous sources, that it can be a minefield.  At least if it is written and maintained by members of this site, then it is trust worthy!

A good suggestion indeed.

I like the arcade idea, most forums do have these and yes, it must be limited. Maybe you could have a small number of games which you change bi-monthly or quarterly, effectively creating a new competition each time.

The buyers guide is very interesting and I saw there is some interest for this in the dedicated thread, good luck.

I'm sure some of you have your own sites and blogs etc so a list of approved/affiliated sites may be helpful.

Yes indeed this would be nice, but thinly thing is, we could go blind with this, so important to drink carrot juice or eat one a day, as you never see a rabbit wearing glasses do ya? :26:

A couple things I've been thinking about. Birthdays and the arcade games that can be played both could use some more attention.

At the bottom of the forum page it tells you upcoming birthdays but it never gives a date. Looks like the persons name turns bold on the day but leading up to it there's no way of knowing when it is. Could this be put on the front page somewhere with the date? Where it is now most people don't even notice it and most birthdays go unrecognized.

Also the arcade doesn't get much use either. Thinking maybe the high scores of each game could be displayed on the front page somewhere? People would see it and maybe want to play to try for the high score themselves.

What do you guys think?

Ok I think both of those are simple to fix. Let me look into it.

As the Chatbox can leave comments sounding a little vague I thought I'd sum up my opinion of the homepage here.
Its really the layout and design that doesn't really 'fit'. Its not easy to look at.

Like:
The links and content concept for the homepage
The new navigation tabs at the top of the page are quite slick

Dislike:
1) The size of the posts is disproportionate to the content which makes them look unnecessarily spread out. Too much white space.
2) The visual priority in the posts is weird. The game image is huge where as the game title is medium with the publisher/developer and reviewers names tiny.
3) Why the published & created dates when they're always the same?
4) Different coloured fonts in titles looks odd. The same font detail is used in various places with inconsistent functions e.g. hyperlinks. Why do the right hand side column banners even have extra headings?
5) The Login and Register buttons look out of place. The actual buttons look great but they just don't fit the rest of the layout.
6) The review section looks even worse...

To be fair, if this is a Work in Progress then OK but if its a final design then frankly it just looks awful. Maybe its the flat white background?

I hope I'm not being too critical, I don't want to offend anybody as you guys do a very good job. Its just my honest opinion, for what its worth :-)

1) The size of the posts is disproportionate to the content which makes them look unnecessarily spread out. Too much white space.

Your taking about the individual posts on the main frontpage that you see when visiting the Home button? If so then yes this is something I want to amend and make better use of, main focus at the moment is porting all the reviews across and build the content back up.

2) The visual priority in the posts is weird. The game image is huge where as the game title is medium with the publisher/developer and reviewers names tiny.

Again as above, short of finding all new images for all our previous content which will increase my/our workload we have to go with what we have, can I point you to the style of the book reviews and get your thoughts on them as they are the ultimate goal for all new reviews across the board but subtle changes to make them work for that category.

3) Why the published & created dates when they're always the same?

This is something I have yet to figure out, Joomla is a very powerful CMS and we are slowly learning as we go.. Expect this one to change real soon.

4) Different coloured fonts in titles looks odd. The same font detail is used in various places with inconsistent functions e.g. hyperlinks. Why do the right hand side column banners even have extra headings?

Extra headings? Not sure what you mean mate... I will admit lots of inconsistencies and posts like this will help me find them and ultimately fix them..

5) The Login and Register buttons look out of place. The actual buttons look great but they just don't fit the rest of the layout.

Yeah these are new, I actually love this personally and they represent a simple job (login and Register) which is to allow people to register or login from the frontpage, I do feel they are too big and have not had the time to change the size.. Maybe then they will blend in better.

Quote from: JoeMusashi on June 23, 2016, 13:08:32 PM
6) The review section looks even worse...

If you mean Review Section as in when you click that button? I would agree.. again, the main task I have been focusing on is getting the content shifted across this is pretty much complete so I can then focus on the way the pages work and how I get them to show a variety of our reviews in a nicer layout.

It is very much a work in progress, but the theme is set in stone. I appreciate its not to everyones liking and we will supply alternative themes as we get to grips with the system. I have asked for members that might have Joomla experience to help us out, as of yet no one has stepped forward, really could do with some advice on things to speed the process up, otherwise things will improve and look better as the weeks go by.

Hi Zapiy, thanks for taking the time to respond. It sounds like resources are your main enemy here, I only wish I new how to work with Joomla so i could offer to help. Unfortunately I don't.

BTW, the book review section layout does look a lot better the rest, you're right.
