Title: Do you care about sealed retro games?
Post by: zapiy on December 01, 2013, 00:41:32 AM
Sealed retro games are very nice to have in your collection, but are they worth the extra costs involved? I personally don't care, because sometimes it can cost more than double the price to have it sealed. Plus i buy them to play so where do you stand on owning sealed games?

I went through this sealed thing with comics back in the 90's when everyone was releasing special editions (Marvel being one of the worst).  I believe the same thing about games as I do comics.  There are people that buy them to enjoy them so they will open them and there will always be collectors willing to spend bookoos of money on "factory" sealed stuff.

Me, I am of the persuasion that games are meant to be played so I will avoid sealed copies and buy the cheaper, opened and sometimes cart/CD only, version.  I do sometimes collect games "complete" if I am a fan (just looks cool seeing the box and such on the shelf).

I have never went after sealed games because I don't know that I can trust them. How do I know that it hasn't been resealed with a block of wood inside? Since sealed games normally sell for higher prices, I do not want to risk spending good money on a block of wood.

I do buy the odd sealed game but not to leave sealed sitting on a shelf.
There's a lot of sealed games still out there, especially for the Atari systems and if you shop around you can get them for the same price or less than used copies.

I only go for a sealed game if I happen to find a good deal on it.  In other words, the price isn't that different from something that is used.  This doesn't happen often, so I don't make it a priority.  Like Shadowrunner, though, my games do not stay sealed.  They are carefully opened and the boxes are saved protected.

Dont think id pay something extra cos its sealed. If I buy a game its to play same as if I buy anything else like that. :)

I was going to go down that road of buying sealed games, but now I've decided I'll only buy something I will play. So all of my purchases have been opened and played some more than others  8)

Nope, I ripped open 5 sealed XE games just the other day.

Thing is that with games in cardboard boxes the shrink wrap actually makes the box warp and bend and as the wrap deteriorates it sticks to the card and damages it, so it's actually better to rip them open.

I feel the same as HomerRamone2084 - getting a sealed game is not an important factor for me.
If I can get one for the same price then okay...but I'm not paying extra for it.

I actually like to buy my games sealed as long as the price is reasonable. Since I don't play any of the newer systems it's nice to be able to rip open games, especially ones that I grew up with. They don't even get a chance to sit on a shelf, as soon as I get them there opened! Although I do have the complete Turbografx/Turbo Duo collection new/sealed. But that's another story.

So, what makes this system different enough to want to keep it all sealed?  I can't believe you've had it all this time sealed! That sure is a strong will!  :)

Ah, so you still get to play the games, though, because of the Everdrive.  Wonderful invention, isn't it?  ;)

Yes, I think there wonderful. I actually have them all. I know there's mixed feelings about them but what I like about them is saving my games from the wear and tear of normal use. I do use my "real" copies of games often but it's so convienent to just turn on the conse and pick a game.

Yeah, I've been trying to get the Mega Everdrive for my Genesis but they just run out of them so fast!  I do have flashcarts for all my systems.  They are just too convenient.  :)

Can I ask where you've been trying to get it? If it's Stoneagegamer, yeah they always sell out fast. If you go right through Krizz there usually always in stock.

Through StoneAgeGamer, yes.  They always run out fast.  I guess they offer the best "package" with the Mega Everdrive and that is why.
