Hi,
This is the auction watch thread, if you see any item on any web site that may help others in a indicative way as to value please post the link or a screen grab here.
guidelinesÂ
1. no pimping - hawking of any item that you are selling is prohibited, you are welcome advertise the wares you have to offer elsewhere on this site.2.We want you to signpost any thing you see that may either help like minded members of our community, if that means you are wanting to post because you feel its a particularly good/ bad offer then you can say so under the premiss that this a ' collectively sourced' thread so the opinions of the posters is not the opinion of the forum staff therefore they cannot be responsible for the eventual final value of an item that has been featured here, a policy of 'buyer beware' is often a good practice. thats that all sorted, so if you want to add to the thread please do!Â

Wow those Atom's certainly seem to fetch a pretty price!Â

I would prefer that QL myself. Interesting to see the Atom is Potters Bar, I used to live near there.
Great way to start a collection or open a store of your own!!!!

Keep on eye on this one everyone:
Gorf - Jaguar CD (//http)
Unreal..
Donkey Kong 64 (//http)
I have just watched that auction finish, and seriously, I can't believe that it sold for £830Â

Apart from the fact it is a sealed console, Is there something that I have missed that means it should go for such a high price?
Like you I am in shock I have that game in mint condition and your telling me that some shrink wrap made it worth £830.
HOLY SHIT! (//http)
Yeah I saw that the other day, it had a 99p start last week! I would have hired someone to collect it all!
A couple of rare new and sealed JAP Dreamcast games that will go for big money in the next 16 hours i think:

I wont be bidding thats for sure, to rich for my blood.
Here is a bit of a shocker. A full collection of ZX Spectrum Rom Cartridges.

This auction could end at 8000-10000 Euros, if it's a legit cart:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/KIZUNA-ENCOUNTER ... 0804182756 (http://www.ebay.de/itm/KIZUNA-ENCOUNTER-Super-Tag-Battle-NEO-GEO-MODUL-/160804182756)
The European version of Kizuna is the rarest Neo Geo home cart with only 6 known copies sold at retail... all in Germany. The Neo Geo community is arguing over whether it's legit or counterfeit so the seller is going to need to post some additional pics/info/proof. If it's proven to be legit, the final price should put most 'rare' videogame auctions to shame.

The ultra-rare Kizuna Encounter AES that was pulled from ebay before the auction ended a couple months ago is BACK.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kizuna-Encounte ... _500wt_950 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kizuna-Encounter-Super-Tag-Battle-fur-Neo-Geo-/160857481955?pt=DE_PC_Videospiele&hash=item2573da62e3#ht_500wt_950)
Neo Geo community is flooded with drama lately. A reputable community member 'discovered' six unreleased US Aero Fighters 3 AES carts. All six were sold to private buyers at prices up to $30,000. (!) Now they are suspected to be counterfeit and lots of public haggling over refunds or possible lawsuits.
Now this similar rarity Kizuna Encounter is back up for auction. Even if it's legit, it won't reach the Aero Fighters 3 price... but it should still be a ridiculous amount.

Wow I would love that setup.
Yeah it's an impressive collection.
Other people seem to agree, it's now up to $1200.00!!!Â
And... the questionable Kizuna Encounter for Neo Geo AES sold for 11950 Euros.Â
Quote from: "tomwaits"And... the questionable Kizuna Encounter for Neo Geo AES sold for 11950 Euros.
That is just crazy!!!!
At the same time I wished I had the money to spend 14 grand on a video game lol
Unreal, think of all the good that could be done with that kind of money
Hardcore Neo Geo collectors are insane. Besides the winner, there were two other bidders offering over 10000 Euros in the last 30 seconds. The winner had already entered a higher max. Insane.
I entered a token bid on the first day of the auction just to be on 'the list'. Now, when I look at the bidder list, it says 'Sorry, you were outbid.'

Guess I'll stick with my $40 Kizuna Encounter MVS cart.

The Sega Pluto prototype that was listed on GameGavel a while ago never met the reserve so it's now up on ebay. It's over $15,000 now and still hasn't met the reserve but there's still a couple hours left so should be interesting to see what it ends up at and if it does get sold.

These are indeed very rare and when boxed and in excellent condition, even more. These are going anywhere from $500 to $1000, depending on condition.Â
OK, so it seems there are people out there who are just doing their best to charge absurd prices for retro gaming stuff. Here is the Vec2Arcade controller for the Vectrex. Yes, this is a homebrew-built piece of hardware but the asking price (£450.00 or $688.00) is a bit too much. As nice as the controller is, I don't think it'll sell for that much money. Absolultely! Yes, I actually was not expecting to win it given for how much these things normally sell!
Remember how I said the other portable 2600 system had been listed for $1200? It didn't sell at that price, so it has now been relisted except that seller has increased the price to $1340! I don't think this person really wants to sell this thing! Take a look: Atar 2600 Portable on Ebay (//http).

However, for reasons I don't understand, it is also now available again in Argos (//http) for £42.99. Now bear with me, this is where it gets crazy, there is only one left and it is in my local shop/store

They seem to be in stock all over the place at argos, but £40+ seems mental, surely closer to £20 would make more sense, or am i missing something. I can see them on ebay/amazon for ~£25

Good answer

i'm too much of a penny picker at times!
Incidentally, I just checked again and I don't see them for the figures you stated. There is one on Amazon.com not Amazon.co.uk. I guess I should have been more specific about it being here in the UK. The one on eBay is also from the US at least that is what I am getting from Google. I did also say they seem to be in more Argos stores but locally to me there are only two stores and now only one of them have a stock of 1. I guess it is all apples and pears like so much stuff in the gaming world. I have been after one of these for a while now so I snapped up the first one that was reasonably affordable and local as they are becoming rarer each year.

Don't forget the shipping costs and when they say 'free shipping' it does not mean international. If you have found them cheaper then may others will be interested, we all like a bargain

I think I got my copy a few years back for £6. Sometimes it's cheaper than that as there are a lot floating around. Avarice is still alive and kicking it would seem.

Yeah, me too, I bought it for about 6-7€ a few months before buying my first Jag CD, now I have two and one is still sealed, I wonder if I could buy a new car selling it...

This guy just doesn't get it! He's been listing this on ebay and gamegavel for months now and every time he puts a reserve on it and every time it doesn't reach it. You would think he would have figured out by now that people don't like reserves and wont bid on it just because of that. He did lower the BIN price this time though, maybe he lowered the reserve too.

At Jagfest back in 2010 somebody was selling 3 of these. 1 had belonged to Jeff Minter, 1 had belonged to James "Purple" Hampton who was one of the coders of Alien Vs. Predator and I can't remember the origins of the 3rd unit. This is probably one of those, especially given who is selling it.
Nice price though Kev, I was offered one for a lot less than that! They can't even play retail games so are pretty useless unless you like collecting stuff.
So, it is mainly a collector's piece. Something to say that you own a piece of Jaguar history.Â

Dang, that's one absurd amount for shipping! For just one!?!?
Yep, that's the cost for one! They could throw it in an envelope and mail it for a few dollars easily, don't know what they're thinking.
That's a good question. Regardless, it makes it not worth getting outside of the US.
For anyone here that has a PAL TurboGrafx this is a brilliant auction!

RE the calendar. You could create your own using these.
http://www.albelli.co.uk/products/calendar (//http)
I used them when my dad wanted a Dolly Parton calendar and couldnt find one. The results were rather good. Means you could also choose your own consoles. You have to supply the 12 images of course - but thats not so bad.
Well that didn't take long, there's a copy of Another World for the Jaguar up on ebay and it's already over $200! It was to be expected but I'm very disappointed to see the seller is the owner/admin of a popular Jaguar site many of us know. Money talks I guessÂ

Well, he has competition now. Those other ones are not going for so much money so maybe folks will realize they don't need to let him rob them.
This may be of interest. If you have been looking for a Power Base Converter for your Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and have seen how crazy the prices can be, this is an excellent alternative that works with all the Sega Genesis/MD models: the Power Base Mini from Stone Age Gamer (//http).

Nice one fella..
I just ordered one. This is a much better price than for the real thing and it does the trick. Heck, it even works on multisystem consoles!Â
Pretty much the same as the MD2 power base converter, but those are very rare so this is a neat idea.
Only problem with this is that it is missing the card slot that you get on the model 1 PBC, so you can't play card games or use the 3D glasses.

I wasn't saying the price on the XE gun was wrong, more that it is amazingly cheap compared to other auctions for the same item and atotal bargain! !!!

Then we are both right, in a way, because you are referring to current auction prices and whilst we both agree this is a fair price, clearly, it is cheap from what you have gleaned from the market trend. I just think the majority of retro stuff is way too pricey. Still, that gun is a nice find as an addition/starter to XE light gun games

Something i missed? 300 dollar for a homebrew game? Why? Limited customers or wrong strategy to earn money with?
Yeah there's a few factors here. The biggest problem in my eyes is they only ever advertised the game on AA, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that a lot of Jag fans don't go near that place! They made two small runs which quickly sold out and are talking about doing a third, but once again they are only judging interest from AA members.
And also, Jag collectors can get a little nuttyÂ
This is why Songbird is to be respected. Carl maintains his stock of games and keeps the market price for Songbird titles consistent. The above is the problem of the homebrewer, as mentioned not gauging demand properly, and obviously not selling the game at an adequate price also. These idiot homebrewers actually listen to the whining of forum members about high prices of games, like I witnessed when Total Carnage was released for $90, but guess what? Total Carnage is still $90 brand new to this day, and is still a million times the game that any of these Jaguar 'homebrewers' can ever dream of releasing.
The point is, make plenty of copies, and sell it at a higher price! I think most of the homebrewers are just looking for their ego's to be massaged over making any money with their time and work they are so eager to boast about when people dare to speak up that their games are indeed trash for the most part, even free ones. They should pay me to play some of those games!
They should pay us all to play some of those games :10:

and rightly so. Ebay is becoming a hive for criminality and only through vigilant reporting will it be stamped out.
The seller says he got the game when he bought a collection. I wonder if that's true and, if so, did he get tricked into buying this counterfeit?
I've looked at my copy now, and I really can't tell. The case is obviously not original but everything else looks pretty good. My disk has a couple differences because it's the special edition but otherwise they look the same. The only other thing is my disk is blue and the one in the auction looks silver. Anybody know if he used different brands of CDRs when he burned them?

This isn't so much about the items for sale, as it is about the seller's advertising techniques! Take a look at their listings and see what you think

That's what stands out for you on those listings? :3:
I have to wonder what "couple of things" you noticed. Perhaps something along these lines...

The price Gorf went for is pretty average for a regular edition, but the other two blew me away! I've never seen Mad Bodies or Blackout go for that much before :) I would never pay that much for Mad Bodies though, probably wont ever own that one!
The price for Mad Bodies fluctuates a lot. I've seen it go for about that much before but then it sells for $120 or so weeks later. I guess it depends on who wants it. The price for Blackout did surprise me, though!Â
There's this interesting item on Ebay:Â Ultra rare Commodore 65 / C65 / DX64 prototype, working, serial #22 (//http).
[align=center:1j3yxb4u]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OfSJeJPLYoY[/align:1j3yxb4u]
Holy crap that's a lot of money! Never heard of it before but sounds very rare.
Can't say that I'd ever heard of a Commodore 65 before. I was surprised when I saw it.
I think that's the second one this year! must be a fire sale.
Just been having a look at Dreamcasts on fleabay when I came across this;

£150,000.00 for every PAL Sega game ever madeÂ

I can't tell if that's a good deal or not, but it's an amazing collection!
Def not a good deal. A full Master System set is worth around £10K:

Any takers? Complete Lynx Collection (//http)
Impressive collection, but I'm not sure it's worth that much!
Good God, that's way over priced.
According to the seller, that's the same price two other complete Lynx collections sold for in the past. Are you saying you don't believe him?
I'd reply and say well if its worth that much, stick it at a 99c start!
He's not selling that for that price. He won't be the happiestsellerever when that happens! LOL
This should go for a hefty sum:Â Indiana Jones Mega Drive / Sega Genesis rare prototype PCB GAME UNRELEASED! (//http)
Love to have that, and yeah, very hefty sum!
Will watch that and see what it goes for in the end.Â
So far it hasn't increased as much as I expected but it won't be until the final few minutes that we'll really know how much it'll go for.
Well, it sold for $1210. Not bad. I hope whoever won it makes an effort to release the game.Â

"For color TV viewing only" on the box, that's too cool. Will be interesting to see how much it ends at.
Wow, it's already over $700.00! It must be very rare!
It is very rare indeed. Calling it the holy grail for Intellivision collectors is pretty accurate.
I love that box art, I really miss the days when games had to use quality artwork to sell you on the premise. We're starting to see a comeback with a lot of the Kickstarter games targeted at retro gaming fans, at least.
The box art is one the reasons I decided to rehost some of the pictures and post them. I'd love to get my hands on this but it's just too much $$$.Â
That Intellivision game went for just over $1400

Here's something I've been watching just because I'm curious to see how high it goes.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/171932213053?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/171932213053?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)
I bought most of my Jaguar collection between 3 and 5 years ago, and I'm sure glad I did! I can't believe how much this stuff is going for these days, it's easily doubled or even tripled in value over the past few years and it just keeps going up! This is a big lot sure, but all the carts are loose and nothing super rare. Still 3 days left in the auction too, crazy!
I'm not surprised about that Intellivision game. That is a holy grail.Â

I'd be curious about that Jaguar also.

That is outstanding but $4000 is a huge chunk of change imo. But, the person it's worth it to probably won't mind a bit. Hope it finishes off someone's collection. To have it with the box like that is incredible.
It was relisted for $1000 less today. They were asking for $5000 before!
Good grief! That's a little out there lol.
But, some games have gone for a lot more so it's hard to estimate the worth of things anymore. The 'Taking the piss' thread is a nice example.
Wow, never seen one of those before!
I've only seen pictures of it. I think it is a pretty nifty "toy" but it is a pricey one.
Just came across this huge lot on ebay (//http).
When I first saw it the reserve hadn't been met but with 10 minutes to go it passed it. Winning bid was EUR 3,000.00! Not sure if that's a deal or not but it was half the price of the buy it now.
Nice job lot but that is a hefty price.
Yes, a lot of money! I looked at the feedback of the winning bidder and it's over 7000, so good chance it's a re-seller.
Yeah I would say the value is no more that £1500 so it must be a resell who will rinse the profit out of it. Not a huge amount mind.
Now this is pretty cool! Custom NES (//http)
I have no idea how he fit everything inside the cartridge but it's very impressive!
Now
that is awesome!
And, when you think about it, not a bad price.
It is very reasonably priced considering how much time it must have taken.

Lol, that's unreal.. I will have two please.
Erm how much!!!
Yep, that much. I understand the last one sold for $10K.
I've never even heard of this game before, but looking at the price it must be pretty rare!
Exertainment Mountain Bike Rally and Speed Racer (//http)
Not seen that before either. Quite a lot of mula for it. The Mr. Boston didn't sell. It's still being sold for the same lofty amount.
Yeah, people are strange when it comes to auctions that have really high opening bids or buy it now prices. Over and over again I see games with low starting bids end up selling for a lot more than another auction for the same game with a buy it now price. People just like the thrill of the bidding war even if it means they are paying more money for it. I don't get it!
Yep, I've seen that too. Sometimes, I watch a BIN and an auction and just get the BIN game when the price goes up.
This is a good game for the Vectrex. This auction is for an Exclusive Edition of the game that had a limited run: Debris Exclusive Edition (EE) 2005 by Revival Studios for Vectrex #15 of 20 (http://http).

Is it because it's particularly rare?
The rarity has driven the price up.

I was watching the Gorf auction just to see what it went for. It was a little low but the price of that game fluctuates quite a bit.
Unfortunately I don't own a Nuon but if I did I would definitely want a copy of Tempest 3000!
I see GORF sold for $275. That's plenty.
I watched that GORF auction for 7 days hoping it would go through the roof. Thought for sure it would sky rocket in the closing seconds. Guess not, but good for walterj64. Not a bad return on an 11 year old investment of $30 (iirc)
Here's another one I was watching just out of curiosity. Jaguar CD (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-Jaguar-CD-Black-Console-NTSC-with-Vid-Grid-game-/322222380658?hash=item4b05f35672:g:JNMAAOSwawpXqhPd)
Seeing that price makes me really glad I bought two of these years ago before they got so expensive! I keep seeing people saying the retro game bubble is going to burst but yet the price of this stuff just keeps going up and up!
Man, that's a lot. Sure wish there was an alternative.
Hopefully, Carl at Songbird will have something soon. He can save the day with what he's working on 8)
Here's something you don't see every day, a very rare Japanese Vectrex demo kiosk.

For those who don't know, this is like the holy grail of 3DO games. It was the last game released for the system and the console was pretty much dead at that point so nobody bought it. Nobody seems to know how many copies were made but it takes months and sometimes over a year for the game to show up for sale. I'd love to own it but it's a little pricey!
Wow, that is pricey :0
I'll pass :p
If it was complete with the long box and manual I'd submit an offer or two and see how low he would go. With just the disc and case though it's too much.

I hear that. Never heard of it before and based on your description I was wondering if that's how it originally came. Good to know it was a full release but yeah, if that's the case it doesn't really warrant an offer at that initial price. Unless you were the kind of collector who'd be happy making their own box, etc. But it still wouldn't be genuine so, worthless imo.
Yeah, it was a full release with box. I decided to see what info I could find on the game and according to Wikipedia it was released in 1994. There's no source so I thought maybe they had it wrong but then I came across a scan of the manual and it says 1994 too. So, it was nowhere near the last game released for the system. Now I'm really curious as to why they made so few copies of the game, and why people claim it was the last released game!

Cool! I wish he'd do that with Doom 8)
Dang! It's at $710 right now!
And the final sale price for the sealed Heretic was $1325.00! Glad I don't collect old big box PC games! I guess most people had shareware versions back in the day so the physical boxed copies are highly sought after.

This is about as rare as you can get, as you can tell by the ridiculous sell price!
Be surprised if it doesnt get pulled from EB. Your generally not allowed to sell stuff like this because you dont actually own it as such.
(I do know someone with a Wii Dev Kit - suspect Ninty be all over that if it popped up on flea bay :) )
Holy cow, that is an amazing end price!
(Gets coat as he realises its already finished and thus unlikely to get pulled :) )
Yeah for something like this I don't think anyone would try to stop it. 3DO sold the rights to Panasonic who ended up putting the tech in vending machines and kiosks instead of releasing the console. Unfortunate but with the runaway success of the PS1 they probably made the right decision.
I did notice a PSP kit for sale on there too - same person also has one of those IIRC

Lol yeah you're seeing right.
I'm guessing that the retailer registration card still attached is what drove the price up. Sealed Gameboys aren't common but they're not that rare. This one was basically not even sold.
I'm still in awe. $3,261.00. No, just no. I wonder if whoever won will actually PAY. You know the sale doesn't always get paid.
That's insane. And payment must be made over the phone?
