This was something I was thinking about earlier when I saw somebody say they were buying a Wii U just so they could play the new Zelda rehash.
Have you ever bought a console, computer or handheld to play just one game and if so what game and why?
Or maybe it was a few games that swung it.
One that does spring to mind for me is Crescent Galaxy on the Jaguar, once I saw the screenshots of this appear in magazines I just knew I had to have a Jag. It just looked so incredible and so far beyond the 16-bit games of the time.

Many times to be honest. I don't buy a machine until there is a game released to make me want it but:
Retrospectively:
I got my Atari 2600 just to re-own Adventure - i have bought games since but meh/
I am getting a Sega CD for Sonic CD only
I got a N64 for Zelda Majoras Mask and a PS1 for Tekken 2 only.
At the time:
I bought my PS2 for Final Fantasy X
I also only bought my Xbox 360 for Sonic 2006 - that was a mistake.
I have one time and that was the PS2 and the game was Kings Field: The Ancient City.
Up until then I was still enjoying my Dreamcast and wasn't sure what console I would get next but when that game came out I had to have it! Totally worth it too as I loved the game!
PS3 for GT5 only but have purchased other games since.
N64 for Pilot Wings only but again I purchased many more.
Both games were superior graphics and gameplay to anything I had played or seen at those times. So I had to buy.
I bought a 360 for Gears of War. The 360 wasn't even on my radar until I saw this game somewhere in action, I can't even remember where anymore. But I had to have GoW, I could't believe how intense it seemed, and very cinematic. It really looked like a giant leap in technology for me since I don't keep up on PC tech.
Ps2 for pro evo....eventually came to Xbox so flogged the ps2 a year later!
PS3 for f1 2006 and bluray... Haven't played much on it since...fucking hate those controllers so uncomfortable!
Yep, I decided to purchase an Intellivision just because I wanted to play D2K!Â
Pretty much had my heart set on buying an N64 after playing Super Mario 64 round a mates house. As a big fan of the platform game genre, i was amazed seeing the full 3d environments and the gameplay didnt let me down. Was a wise purchase in the end, despite the price as also got to play console only exclusives such as Goldeneye and Zelda:OOT. These 3 titles are probably still in my top 10 of all time list.
The next one for me will probably be Xbox One, which pretty much has me sold after seeing Dead Rising 3 in action, i hope this also deliversÂ

It is certainly very tempting!
Not quite one game - but I got a PS2 to play Gradius V and R-Type Final. Got loads more games for it of course.
I remember now that I bought a Nintendo 64 and NBA Hangtime, which I was playing in the arcades all the time. It turned out to be a great deal, because I was dropping quite a bit of quarters into the arcade cab back then. The N64 version is arcade perfect, and I've logged over 2000 games on it.
I was going to say no I haven't but that is not the case. I bought the Jaguar for a number of reasons and games but more recently I bought an Atari Flashback 1 just for Adventure and got it working yesterday
It just needed new batteries d'oh! I also got a Namco plug and play for Pac-man and Galaxian. My 130 XE I got for loads of games lol which, reminds me I must put up some pictures soon.
I bought my very first PC primarily to play VGA Planets 3 (it was a 25Mhz 386sx).
I upgraded from the first Xbox to the 360 primarily to play Burnout Paradise as I'd enjoyed all the other Burnout games on my first Xbox.
Then I bought a PS3 just to play Gravity Crash (and hasn't played
anything else on it). What can I say - I just love glowing vectors.

A look at a Vectrex (1982 video game console) (//http)
Quote from: "FinMK"You should get a Vectrex, they would be right up your street. :D (although, all I have for it are three games in pretty tatty boxes )

At the very least you should get a multicart! It's a great way to play many games on the system!Â
Only system I can think of that I got for a single game would be Gamecube. Picked it up to play Luigi's Mansion. Never regretted it.
Nearly every single one of my console purchase has been because of a desire to play one game.
I never buy a console until there is a game I just have to have. TBF nearly every console launched with a must have game for me.
Anyway
TMNT - NES
Golden Axe - Megadrive
Super marioworld - Snes
Ridge Racer - PS1
Mario 64 - N64
Sega Rally 2 - Dreamcast
Rogue Squadron - Gamecube
Halo - Xbox
all those games made me rush out to get the console straight away - most of the other consoles that have been released I have just picked up later down the line.
Yep,an N64 for Goldeneye and a Megadrive to play Sonic 1, 2 and 3
Not one game so much, but for Squaresoft, I did. I was always a Sega guy, but finally picked up a SNES for FFVI, and I bought a PSX solely in anticipation of FFVII (and didn't bother with an N64 since Squaresoft dumped them). That ended with the PSX, though, by FFIX I felt like they had lost their luster a bit, and when Hironobu Sakaguchi left I was pretty well done with Square.
I bought a 3DO once so I could play Way of the Warrior.
...It was $40 USD on eBay, OK?
...It came with a lot of other games, OK?
...The guide I found made it sound REALLY good, OK?
...I didn't know the guide was written in 1994, OK?
Funny enough I just got an Xbox 360 purely to play Grand Theft Auto V
I actually bought an FM Towns Marty just to play Splatterhouse, which I think is the best version of any system. Also bought the X68000 just for Castlevania. They were expensive one game systems.
Several times over....
PSOne - GTA
N64 - Goldeneye
PS2 - GT3
Gamecube - Sonic Adventure
Xbox - Halo
X360 - Test Drive Unlimited
I don't think I ever bought a console just for one game. Although I've always wanted to get a 3DO for Super Wing Commander (and some other games like Killing Time and Wolfenstein). I was a huge Wing Commander fan back when the 3DO came out and the remade graphics blew my mind back then. I've also had an interest in an FM Towns Marty for Splatterhouse and Tatsujin 2. So far I haven't been able to justify the investment especially for the super expensive FM Towns Marty.
I bought a Lynx just to play Robotron. Then I replaced it - bought a Robotron just to play Robotron
I'm just dumb about this. It's not right to buy a console for just one game.. I do it all the time it seems!
Neo Geo: Magician Lord
5200: Adventure II
3DO: Slayer
XBOX: Morrowind
I'm not counting the systems I went on to actually play other games. These systems continue to only get played for the original game I bought it for. Shameful, really.
Well, at least you are enjoying the game you did get for them!
Well... I bought a Jaguar mainly to play Tempest 2000. But I hope to enjoy some other games and homebrew.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised, there is a lot more to the Jaguar than just Tempest 2000.
