Let's look at the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color! Yes, there was a color Neo Geo Pocket as well as a monochromatic one. Here is a review of that system for your viewing pleasure!

Cool looking handheld. Wonder if it really could be linked to a DreamCast?
Yeah there was a DC link cable, I used to have a NGPC site way back when, Neo-geo.com used my game info for their master lists after I closed it down.
Great little handheld, 100x better screen than the awful GBC one and battery life was amazing too! Thumb stick too was great, shame it never lasted longer, never got the support it deserved, both the Wonderswan and Neogeo pocket color were better than the GBC but again that's what marketing does for you.
I somehow ended up getting one of these things for Christmas one year, but for whatever reason, the only game I ever had for it was Sonic Pocket Adventure. Not that I minded, because Pocket Adventure was great. Original? Not really. Fun? I'd say so. It's a shame I never ended up getting SNK VS Capcom, because if you had that and Metal Slug: 2nd Mission, I'd say you'd be all set.

I bought one, brand new (Blue model) with following games (carts only):
Puzzle Link 2, King Of Fighters R2, Neo Turf Masters, Puzzle Link, Pac-Man and Fatal Fury Contact.
To my eternal shame, never even tested it, not even took it out the box, could be anything in there.
Bought during a mini-collecting phase i soon passed through, but somehow just cannot part with it.
Looks like another good handheld that didn't get the support it deserved. A shame.
I have the NGP-DC linkup cable and it's still CIB. I've not tried using it yet though. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/17.gif" alt=":17:" title="17" />
Here's a video someone made about it -

I have one of these as you can see from my collection thread. I really love the clicks you get from the joystick. Super system.
Never knew about the Sega connection. Nice video!
Seems it was quite popular in UK:
Talking of SNK closing it's Neo Geo division and knock-on effects, Robbie Phillips (UK MD of SNK Europe at the time):
'The saddest part of this news is that the Neo Geo is the best handheld on the market and has a loyal following of hardcore gamers.we've all worked hard to establish the platform in a short space of time and it's a pity that we never really got a chance to show what the brand could do with real support'
Seems there was to be an MP3 player launched for the device as well.
Apparently in last 3 months of Dec'99 in UK alone, Neo Geo Pocket Colour had sold 30,000 units and 120,000 games.
Pretty respectable numbers for such a short time frame.
Yeah sickens me that crap like the gbc got more recognition and support.
NGPC is one of my favorite handhelds. Almost every game in the library is well made.
Here's a summary of the games/features accessible with the Dreamcast NGPC link cable:

There was also a NGPC NGPC link cable and most of the fighting games and puzzle games supported 2 players on linked systems.
Couple pics of my NGPC collection...

Very nice collection!Â
Nice! Still one of my biggest regrets selling my ngpc set, had all uk releases bar pocket reversi and 12-13 jap games.
Still glad Europe got the clam cases instead of the awful u.s cardboard boxes!
Very nice, Tom!
Wow missed this one under the radar! Remember looking forward to this one coming out.

Nice! Left a comment!
The guys from Game Sack have just released a new video looking at the Neo Geo Pocket Color system. The video discusses the system itself and goes over various games for it. Enjoy!

It's an amazing little system with a good number of games, such a shame the screen is pants without a backlight. Never seem to find any that pop up on eBay already converted.
The screen was fine, certainly against the awful GBC screen it was amazing! Going back to any old screen is more noticeable now, but it was good for when it launched.
My collection before I sold most of it.

Brilliant system but I needed the money at the time and I can play them on the PSP.

That was a nice collection. I didn't know the games could be played on PSP.Â
Pretty much anything can be on a firmware hacked one. Very easy to do and well worth it.
That's cool.Â
Love mine now and the stick is still the wow factor.
Does anyone have a modded version with the front lit screen? I really want one.
I would love to get one as well.. (modded one that is) i have originals..
Someone could probably start a neat little business if they had the skill. The number of forums I've visited these past few days all itching to get a modded screen is through the roof!
There's is a pretty comprehensive guide HERE (https://www.racketboy.com/retro/neogeo-pocket-color-101-beginners-guidehttps://www.racketboy.com/retro/neogeo-pocket-color-101-beginners-guide)
LCD screens have changed so much since these systems were released, that modding these handhelds with more modern screens really does bring new life to them.Â
Agreed.. Must pickup a few more games for mine.
Put this collection of old reviews and adverts for the NGPC.

Really nice work on these.
They are awesome... A collated book next.

This is a great system, love the look and feel of it, don't have a massive collection for it but it has some amazing games love the metal slug on it, here is my little collection I have.

Very cool. Small, but nice, collection.
Yeah great little system also have dark arms that's not in the picture, any other must haves that are affordable lol?
It really is a neat looking system and really cool that you have so many protective cases for your carts.
Going off on a tangent, I still remember when games came with protective covers. I probably still remember the exact date of opening a boxed game and there was not a protective sleeve cover with the game. lol
Really nice collection.
I didn't know there were homebrew games for this system but saw this video by The New Retro Show covering five new games for the system. Check it out...

I didn't know that either. I should have bought one of the handhelds years ago before they got expensive. Would be cool to try these games out.
Emulation?
That would be one way to try them.
