J-League Winning Goal looks to be a pretty decent effort for an 8-bit footy game. Sprite flicker is minimal for a NES game too.

Yes, J-League is supposed to be among the best Soccer games on the NES.  I haven't played it myself, so I can't comment on how good it is from experience but I've seen it listed as such.  Captain Tsubasa is supposed to be up there as well.

I really like the Soccer Sidekicks series, played them loads over the years. I also think Soccer Brawl is a huge amount of fun, they had that game on the Neo Geo cabinet in my local cinema back in the day.

Are the players on Soccer Brawl supposed to be enhanced humans?  The opening makes it look like they are bionic players.
