OK, so let's start a new topic to continue the "Evolution of..." line of threads. This time let's look at Golf and let's start with the venerable
Atari 2600...

As is always the case with the 2600, later releases of sports games are remarkably different from the early versions. My Golf looks fantastic and plays much better as well.
You put "Minature Gold"Â :3:
Are we including Crazy Golf games in this too then as well as proper golf games?
My Golf is an incredible achievement for the 2600 and an excellent game to boot, a far cry from the awful Atari game!

I think we can include any golf game. It should keep things interesting. :21:

Is Ninja Golf a golf game? Is it a beat 'em up? Who cares when a game that that good, possibly the most wacky concept for a game ever but a game that is worth owning a 7800 for.
Mean 18 is also an incredibly good golf title for the machine and a game that really doesn't get enough love.
On the Lynx I am just going to ignore the unfinished buggy mess that is Krazy Ace and talk about Awesome Golf. Not only is this a great Lynx game but in my opinion this is one of the best golf games ever made. Everything about it is just "awesome" from the digitised speech to the 3 varied courses. It really is a must have game for golf fans.
Ninja Golf is a rather unique game. I guess it's a Golf Beat'em up! I agree about Mean 18. It is an excellent game.Â
On the Lynx Krazy Ace is just a game to have if you want a complete set of Lynx games. It's unfortunate it is as buggy as it is. Awesome Golf did earn its name.Â

This is a boring sport in reality, IMO of course, but there are great golf videogames out there that aged very well.
My favorite is Neo Turf Masters, I've been playing this game since it was released and still love it.

Great American Golf
(http://videogamecritic.com/images/cdi/great_american_golf_2.jpg)
First golf game I ever played was on the Apple IIe - it was quite a neat game as tt generated a new course every time you played. It was only 2D overhead and the graphics were basic and pretty lo-res but it got the job done. The gameplay was excellent and rewarded practice and skill and supported the Apple paddle controller.
It was just called Golf - no idea who developed it - it may have been a sample AppleBasic program but we got hours of entertainment out of it in multiplayer at school breaks.
Golf is always great in multi-player and it is perfect hangover Sunday afternoon gaming - used to have loads of fun with my mates on Arnold Palmer Golf on the Megadrive, I can also remember great times playing the old NES Golf game on a Playchoice 10 which required real judgement as you only ever knew the total length of the hole - not how far to the pin you had to go - so it required real skill and knowledge of the game. Great fun in a pub environment.
Always liked Leaderboard - played an old DOS version in work quite a bit when PCs first showed up (was a green screen programmer back in those days). Also have world class Leaderboard for the MD. I had forgot how the putting angle was shown in that game - quite original really.
Was never that fussed on PGA golf - especially later games that just added too many gameplay aids and made it feel too contrived - though I quite like Tiger Woods games on Wii that support M+ - loads of content in those too. (Frisbee mode is fun too!).
Mario Golf on N64 (and GC which looks gorgeous and irons out the N64 game) is excellent too - still enjoy that when I just want to play some old 3 press system golf and sit on the sofa.
The basic Golf game in the old Gameboy was a lovely little game too - excellent control and really effective use of graphics.
