Title: Evolution of Retro Volleyball Games
Post by: TrekMD on April 03, 2013, 22:20:26 PM
OK, time to start looking at yet another sport and its evolution on retro systems.  Let's now look at Volleyball and let's start with RealSports Volleyball for the Atari 2600.

[align=center:1u25pef0]My personal favourite Volleyball game on any platform is this incredibly good game. . . . Malibu Bikini Volleyball on the Atari Lynx:

Here is a very short video of the gameplay for the same game.  Not a lot of good videos for this one.  :(

If you look at others, besides Atari videos :10:

The Odyssey 2 had one and the Nes had several Volleyball games.

Super Volleyball looks really good, just not sure about the stand-in a row play format.

Never played Sonic Spike. I do have a sealed copy but just have never wanted to open it up.

I have both (read my reviews!)

Super Volleyball is great but Sonic Spike is utter garbage.

Yes, it is a very sought out title and quite an expensive one as well.  I do have the ROM for it to play using my CC3.

As big as sports games were for systems in the 1980's, quite amazing Sega did not port more to the Master System.

Realsports Volleyball is probably the best in that series. It is highly playable and looks pretty good too. However it isn't the only volleyball game on the 2600...

Anyone remember this variation on the Video Olympics cartridge? You could even perform a spike or block move by pressing the button on the paddle controller.

Beach Spikers Volleyball by Sega on the Gamecube is an excellent one to look out for too.
