Agree! I played baseball games on the C64. That was back when baseball was fun. Now you have to have a degree in physics to even hit the ball.

Super Action Baseball really looks impressive. I have a copy of the game. Just never have picked up a pair of the special controllers to play the game properly.

What is the controller that it requires?  Sucks that you have the game and can't play it!

I believe it is called the Super Action Controller. It is rather neat looking.

Ok, here is the real controller :21:

So, they must be expensive to get.  Or you can always get one of those contraptions you posted first?  ;)
Title: Re: Evolution of Retro Baseball Games
Post by: onthinice on March 27, 2013, 12:55:51 PM
I think the price is reasonable on-line. Just not sure how well built they are and if the price is enough to justify for the few games that would use the controllers. Same thing for the Coleco steering wheel.

OK, cool.

Well, here is another baseball game to look at.  This time for the Arcadia 2001, simply called Baseball.

I have the original World Series Baseball, it's pretty good.

Frank Thomas was actually supposed to come out on the Jag and was apparently near enough finished.

I have Bases Loaded '96, Bottom of the Ninth, Frank Thomas Big Hurt, Grand Slam and World Series Baseball. Sadly I do not know which ones were not to be ported to the Jaguar. :78:

Like Laird, World Series Baseball is might favorite followed by Grand Slam and Bases Loaded '96.

The sports game that was to show how inferior the Atari 2600 was compared to the Intellivision.
Only thing was I played Super Challenge Baseball more on the 2600. Same game as Major League Baseball. Less buttons to press. Same fun.

Had completely forgotten to include the Intellivision here!  I've yet to test out these games on my Intellivision.  Will have to give them a spin.  Love the speech on World Series!

Yes it does!  I was surprised it didn't have a million versions, though, since the other Nintendo systems do!

If you want a million versions see the Mega Drive / Genesis!

That list took me forever and I bet I still missed some!!!  :o

Interesting how on the N64 the games are either very realistic or cartoony.

If you look you will notice that all the Japanese games go for the cartoony look while the western games go for realism, shows a big difference in what different markets want from their games.

Exactly! Back then people could even learn the sport while playing, now you must be an expert to play them as you need to understand a zillion of button combinations to success.

Oh yes, that is something I love about retro games.  You can "grab and go" most of the time.  ;)
