I figured I'd start a thread where we can post videos looking at the evolution of retro Boxing games by consoles. I'm going to start by posting three different Atari 2600 Boxing game videos: Activision's Boxing, Atari's RealSports Boxing, and Devin Cook's homebrew, K.O. Cruiser. Even looking at these games on the 2600, we can already see how these games evolved just on this one system.

Glad you like it. I have several more in mind with other sports games. They seem to lend themselves the most for this.Â
And to continue the evolution, here is Intellivision's Boxing!

Here are two images of VecSports Boxing for the Vectrex! Yep, even the Vectrex has a boxing game.

I'm pretty sure that the people who made Frank Bruno Boxing are terrible, terrible people who will be going somewhere bad when they die. For one thing, not only did they steal a few characters straight out of the arcade version of Punch-Out, they also decided that this here:

Was a good idea. I mean, this was the 80's, you'd think we as a species would have moved on from that by then.

Jack The Nipper 2 (Coconut Capers ?) had similar offending material, in game and on the adverts.

OK, so we've seen the Atari 2600 (with three versions just for that system), the Intellivision, the ZX Spectrum, the Vectrex, and now the Amiga/PC versions.Â
Here is now a boxing game for the Atari 7800:Â Fight Night!

I dunno there mate, i'd say they were more of a very mixed bag, things like A8 Phantms, The Last Guardian=Superb, things like A8 Jet set Willy (Hubbard music aside)=Awful.

Seems Jack The Nipper 2 (Coconut Capers) was'nt the only UK game to feature similar racial sterotypes, quick look at Mikro-Gen's Three Weeks In Paradise magazine advert shows exactly the same...

Prize Fighter - By Digital Pictures
I played a lot of Prize Fighter back when it was new. Frustrating till you got past the first guy. Then the difficulty level seemed to drop off with each new bout. Almost like they made the game purposely hard for the first level only. Still was fun to play. Not sure it has aged very well.
So, let's look at boxing games on the NES. I was able to find two:
Mike Tyson Punch Out!!
And the original Punch Out!!

They don't look very different. Are there others for the NES?

They're actually the exact same game, only the second picture isn't the original game, it's a rerelease. See, they lost the license to use Mike Tyson's name and likeness. So they rereleased the game with a new, white guy named "Mr. Dream" in his place.
Also, here's Ring King. Nobody cares about this game except for the animation that plays between rounds. You'll see why.

Wow, that's actually pretty impressive that they managed to handle 3D like that on the 3DO. I'm pretty sure this was a late release, so it would have been interesting to see how the whole system would have fared if this came out a couple of years earlier.
That 3DO game is an evolved boxing game!
I am taking us back a step, though. Here is Rocky for the Sega Master System.

High price tag probably one of the 3DO's worst failings, but from what i've seen of it, it was a very capable enough system, seems somewhere in middle ground between a SNES and Playstation 1. sort of half-way house (better at 3D than SNES, but not as good at 2D).
Things like Starfighter 3000, Space Hulk, Foes Of Ali, Return Fire, WC3, The Need For Speed etc looked very impressive for the time.
Pity it got such a poor port of Doom though, guess by then industry had written it off, so were'nt going to worry too much about coding a best possible version for the hardware.

'Boxing Knockout' by Alligata on C64+Speccy.
Never heard of it before myself, ring any bells to anyone on here?

And another:
'3D Boxing' (Amstrad CPC) By James Software.
Whilst it used the speech synth device for the CPC, it featured crude+jerky graphics, was boring and easy to complete claims reviewer.
Crash mag.Nov'84 (again), advert for Silicon Joy (looks like a 'Kevin Toms' buisness as he's there promoting the games), anywho, for 48K Spectrum we have:
'Boxing'-A 2 or more player Boxing game in which you fight your opponents with excellent on screen fight action acording to Tom.
By 'excellent' talking side on view, big sprites, but pink background?, bit hard on the eyes.
