I was actually playing the 2600 version a few days ago!
Thanks TrekMD! Thanks Nintendo for releasing the game!
Dear Santa,
I really would like to have the Arcade version, Intellivision, Odyssey2 and maybe a handheld version also.
Santa would right back:
Hey onthinice, get a job you bum!
This was one of the games I was looking forward to playing on the 5200 when I first got it. I have the 2600 version but wanted to try out the better looking version. Definitely a nice one!
Really surprised the Odyssey 2 version was left out. It would be neat to see the extra screens compared.
I always liked the Colecovison and 5200 over the Nes. The Nes is close as close can be, but still lacks something.
The video comparison has been updated, so here is the new version...

Easy win for Arcade and NES here. I have this as a board game.^^
The gameboy version was disappointing. Found it repeatative and the music a bit dull. That said its one of my few childhood originals so still play it from time to time
That Odyssey 2 version is absolutely tragic, you can barely tell that it's the same game!
It's a shame that Spectrum version was never finished, it looks like it had potential to be pretty good.
Odyssey 2 suffered from Atari will sue syndrome. After they had to pull K.C. Munchkin, every game after never looked like the original. Even if it was licensed.

Play any of the late Odyssey 2 releases and you will change your mind.
There are some very different Popeye games for the home computers by Alternative Software:

:) So many fun looking games and I never had a chance to play them.
There was a very bizarre 3rd game too! ;D

What the hell is he fighting? An Alien?!

I like the mini dragon at the end. How many challengers does Popeye face?
Yes Trek, it's a Popeye wrestling game!Â

No idea ice, you would have to watch the whole playthrough.
Was'nt just the 2600 Gamestm's 'Conversion catastrophe' writer seemed to have unrealistic expectations from.
The Philips videopac version of Popeye featured.Â
They slag it for it's visuals (blocky, Olive looking like she's being sick on the floor, looking nothing like coin-op etc) and seemingly little else.

Maybe said writer has no clue of what system capabilities are and only knows how to be negative.

Hard to call as on the 1 hand, writer is never named, yet on other, when looking at the various times the 2600 versions of games are featured (Zaxxon, Tempest etc) writer makes it clear the hardware could'nt dream of handling the visuals, yet slags off the visuals any way.
*Oh and they say Nes is machine you should have played Popeye on.

Now that I've played the NES version of Popeye, I can say that it is a very good adaptation of the game. I was pleasantly surprised by it.Â

Popeye 2 (Alternative) on C64 at least got a mauling at review.
Zzap 64 described it as a medicore platforms/ladders game made worse by things like the falling objects moving so fast you've no chance to avoid them+ you can get blown up by bombs that are'nt even on the same screen.
Did'nt sound like fun.
I never knew about Popeye 2. Seems like the arcade conversion is the only one that ever gets mentioned.
There is also a Popeye 2 game for the Nintendo Game Boy too:

That could have been called Super Popeye World!
There is a GBA Popeye game too:

What a neat idea, turn a platform game into a racer.Â
Popeye Pinball!

Looks like the reviewer enjoyed the game, even if it is clear he does not have the taste buds for spinach! LOL
Here is an even newer video looking at the various versions of Popeye!

John Hancock just released a video also looking at various versions of this game...
