Dig Dug was another of those great games that was adapted to many different systems. Here is a video comparing several versions.

Great vid - pretty much every version out there is shown.
It definately shows the superiority of the brilliant 7800 version, its easily the closest to the arcade game.
That C64 version looks horrible, the sprites are all squashed and the sound is wrong. The 2600 version might look the worst of all but it definately nails the gameplay, this was a big favourite of mine as a kid.
I always liked the 2600 version and thought it was impressive for the system. If there is something the 2600 manages to do with many of the arcade ports is nail the gameplay, even if the graphics fall short. This game is certainly an example of that.Â
I agree about the 2600. The GameBoy version look really good.
It's strange. Although I do know I should prefer other versions, I am so used to the 2600 one that all other ports just look and sound WRONG to me.

That's interesting. How about the 7800 version? After all, the sound is pretty similar to the 2600.
True, the 7800 version sounds pretty much identical. But it still doesn't look right!
*waves VCS-flag*Joking aside, the 7800 version looks nice. I prefer it from the 5200 one because of the more vibrant colors, at least that's how it looks in the video.

Awesome Trek! I love the way he is re-doing loads of the old ones to make them better!
This Dig Dug one is 3 times longer than the original one. That's how many versions he's added!
Maybe he has seen us posting all the versions he misses outÂ

Better game. Cave Man smash!
For those that have never seen the rather strange sequel, Dig Dug 2

A game that does not get enough coverage. Fun take on the Dig Dug theme, but since it is was not an arcade port to my knowledge it does not seem to get talked about very often.
I've played that sequel! Definitely different a different take!

I have it on the DS, not a fan.
GB review/GO! magazine 84% overall (Feel+Value both 8's, sound 6 and look 5).
Steve Keen prefered the original version over the new version also on the cart, as did Paul rand.
I really like Dig Dug and Dig Dug II has just enough differences to make it fun without seeming like you are playing the same game with a II behind the title.
It's been a while since this thread saw some activity. Here is a newer video comparing various versions of Dig Dug. This one has commentary as well. :)
