Sorry Laird I tried to watch but that red really hurts my eyes.
That's the first time I have actually sat and watched lots of Virtual boy vids. All that Red is no wonder this failed.
I think the guy that invented the GameBoy was the genius behind this system.

He certainly was! And he "retired" shortly after this bombed!!!
Word on the street was his accident he was involved in was no accident!
I´m torn with this one. I only got mine last month after the usual PAL-land hassles (high postage, long time in the mail plus a trip to the customs) and after the initial days of unreflected true fandom, sobriety has come up. Wario Land and Galactic Pinball are very good... but it´s absolutely no laid-back playing with the VB. You have to sit straight as if in a classical concerto :)
It´s more like an astronomical telescope.
I am also afraid that, when after ca. 20 minutes of playing, seconds of screen tearing starts, it will go down the drain totally if I played more than half an hour continously.
This overall fear "Oh, it might break, then more postage and trouble again!" is a mighty turnoff
Here is a nice video from the Gaming Historian looking at the Virtual Boy.Â

Good video, and despite all the negatives, I still want to get a Virtual Boy someday!
Not sure I would own one but nice to see the system still has an interest.
Am seriously considering getting one of these again, yes i used to own one around 2000-2001 so i know what they are like, plus now there is a flashcart and some great looking homebrew coming out its very tempting to get one!
I'm actually watching one on ebay that ends in a few hours. Depending on how much higher it goes, I may jump on it!
Edit: Never mind, ended up going for more than I was willing to spend. Someday I'll get one.
I've had a couple over the years but its strictly a novelty. I was quite lucky and never suffered from any sickness/headaches yet a couple of my friends could hardly go 5 minutes without wanting to throw up. So should keep in mind it might not be for you!

Yeah, my expectations are pretty low to be honest. I just want to see what it's like and try some of the games. I'm thinking of it as more of a novelty.
If you do indulge make sure you play the Tennis, boxing game and Wario.
Just saw this:Â Nintendo Virtual Boy Celebrates 20th Birthday This Week (//http)
That's an interesting read. Can't believe it's been 20 years already.
All that great stuff happening from '93 to '99, some of which stays at the front of my mind, is suddenly so long ago.
I have a Virtual Boy-though I didn't use it very much. I'm one of the people that got sick pretty fast looking at all those blood red games.

Will have to pull it out and upload a pic or two. Can't even remember which or how many games I have for it.
Hmm, looks like only 5 games.

Didn't take long to get woozy from the red.
Nice! I want to get one some day.
Just read this great article about the history of the Virtual Boy. Really in depth and tells the entire story from design right up to it being cancelled.

That was a great article. Had no idea what the background was or the severity that Nintendo swept it under the rug and have tried to distance themselves from it.
Great stuff!
