Atari - The Most Misleading Ad Ever? (//http)[/align:3dfdq720]
The Atari XE is on my dream wish list of consoles.

I have the awesome light gun, as it also works with the 7800.
I really want to get an XE at some point, I really do think its one of the best looking consoles out there. I used to own an Atari 800 XL computer with a disk drive but never used it and when somebody offered me £60 for it I decieded to sell it (it only cost me £10!). After that I have always said I will get an XE as it takes up much less space and there are some pretty amazing homebrews avaialble for it. You can also now get the Atari Max flash cartridge which can hold hundreds of games so takes up even less room!
Yep, I have wanted that light gun because of all the good things I have heard about it. I have an Atari 400 so that is why I have not bought an XE yet. Sounds like you did well on selling your 800XL. Thanks for the information about the Atari Max flash cartridge.
I'd love to get an XE as well! Looks like it has a fun library of games and the system itself looks pretty nice. I like the fact that it can be used as a computer with the keyboard. Who wants a toy robot on a gaming system?Â
Atari really pushed the boat out with advertising back then

Maybe it would have sold better with a robot or a dog snickering at you?
Those old ads are hilarious! LOL
The marketing guys sure knew how to lay it on.
Oh wow, there are more!Â

Yep, the XE is te only system with computer power!Â
This topic inspired me!
This morning I wrote a big article on the XEGS for Retro Fusion magazineÂ

Cool!
Can you share any of the article? I am not familiar with Retro Fusion.

more like Retro Confusion mate...lol...
only reason to look into this is because Laird has done some quality work for it.
LOL!!!
Nice! I thought I had been out of loop. I come to this site to always stay ahead of everyone else. The information is always fresh and new.
well now you know dude!...retro fusion is a magazine done by a community of fellow retro gamers that think they have writing skillsÂ
and is another reason why laird has been brought in to give some real writer contributions..all you have to do is read some of the reviews here, plus he's doing my proof reading and edits for my Coin-Op Book in production at the moment.

+1
I know of one particularly distasteful character directly involved with that publication so won't be touching it with a barge pole.
Care to name and shame?

Not publicly.

LOL! I had to play the Nes on a black & white tv. Guess I was never as rad as this kid.

Blimey, I never knew it was possible to make the NES even more shit!Â
That is funny!!!
I used to play the Odyssey 2 and Atari 2600 on a B & W tv. So I guess I was used to the lack of color.
Well I had the same hair cut as him at that age so I must have been rad! LOL
It was the 80's, everybody had a mullet.Â

killbot?
yeah I had the pleasure of playing my first consoles on black and white tv's in my room lol. Oh sure we had colour in the living room but my parents didn't want to buy me a colour tv, so I picked up a black and white one from my nans charity shop in probably 91/92?? fuckin nightmare trying to play Master System and even some MD games on it in B/W before I got a colour finallyÂ
I bet dcultrapro, Master System and MD games are really colorful. I always thought Sega was more grown-up in the use of colors and Nintendo was more kiddie in there color selection.
I think I may have even still had a colour tv in 95/96 when Comix Zone came out!! :-[
That explains why you are an expert Dreamcaster. Finally had a color tv by the time it was released.Â
Am I the only one who watched the commcercial in the original post and almost felt the sheer desperation that must have gone into it? I dunno, it just feels like they're practically pleading to the viewer that they're still relevant... that's just my impression, anyway.
Well, it beats out and out racism... (//http)

Yeah, it's a terrible advert!
What am I missing in that link?
Linked the wrong page, try now.
The 7800's turn:

Cool! The last little boy is from the Cosby Show. Oh yeah! Atari was always reinventing something.
While they targeted the NES with the console version of the XE they went after Commodore with the computer version!

Funny!!!
Some great ads there guys. They just don't make em like that any more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZzjDn0lESY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZzjDn0lESY)
Yep, only Atari.Â
I had fun playing MLB on the Nes. Sure better baseball games were released for the Nes but for a time this was a favorite of mine.
Ooops. Atari rules.
OMG! No wonder American's bought the NESÂ :oÂ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxcoIeTmHd8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxcoIeTmHd8)
It should be no problem guessing what decade the system sold based on that commercial! LOL
That just might be the worst commercial ever made!Â
By 1990 I had a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Too bad I did not see that commercial back then, I might have bought a 7800 instead.
I wish we had these entertaining adverts now.
I'd love to see the bitch wars return
This time Atari's target was the Game Boy:

And the Lynx was unquestionably superior than the GameBoy, so they really could say it.Â
Cool ads. I only remember the Gamepro one, so it is nice to see new-old ads.

I used to have the Warbirds/BUTS one on my wall when I was a kid!Â
Never played Warbirds. Always thought the ads made it look like a good game.
Quote from: "onthinice"Never played Warbirds. Always thought the ads made it look like a good game.
It good but I always thought it was a bit over rated, everyone went crazy about it at the time. It was actually the first ever Lynx game to get into the muti-format top 10 chart in the UK!!!!
It's more fun on ComLynx I think.
Thanks for info Laird!
This is amazing!
Atari vs Nintendo (//http)[/align:15mcmi98]
LOLÂ Gotta love the ending!
Yeah, it's a really clever video - very nicely done!Â

Now can we have Jaguar Vs. N64Â
What about 5200 versus Super Nintendo or 7800 versus Virtual Boy? Could even be tag team.
