Title: Desert Island Discs (& Cartridges!)
Post by: TL on August 04, 2012, 15:37:52 PM
(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E164lGQy7p0/TybDV4FrzsI/AAAAAAAAANc/vcqJgeGbNPY/s1600/DesertIslandDiscs.jpg)

Following the theme of the classic radio show you are stuck on a desert island but instead of music we are talking video games!

So you can can have just 1 console and 10 games to play on it!

Which console do you take and what games?

Do you go for your favourite games on that machine or the ones that will get the most gameplay?

Decisions, decisions . . . . . . .

Hard for me to choose between the Dreamcast, Japanese Saturn, or Neo Geo. But, I've been playing more Neo Geo lately so...

KoF 98
Last Blade 2
Metal Slug 3
Bust a Move Again
Blazing Star
Shock Troopers
Sengoku 3
Baseball Stars 2
Overtop
Zupapa

(I think it's too easy to abuse the supergun option. Arcade PCBs dwarf all console libraries and cover every era. I could make a desert island list from just the PCBs that I own, but that crosses eras too.)

This is true!

Good choice of console and games there though, I am still trying to decide on mine so I will post again later!

After much deliberating I have decieded to go with  . . . .

Sega Saturn!

Once I thought about it I realised that this console probably has the most triple A games and loads that I can play again and again without getting bored, so here are my 10:

Worms - I can play this game all day without ever getting bored.
Tetris Plus - Brilliant puzzle game and what is not to love about Tetris right?
Sega Rally - My favourite racing game ever, I am always trying to beat my best times.
Panzer Dragoon Zwei - If I ever need reminding just how awesome the Saturn is I fire up this game.
Baku Baku - Best puzzle game on the Saturn and amazingly addictive.
Guardian Heroes - Probably the best game on the Saturn full stop, amazing game.
Worldwide Soccer '98 - I love football so I would need this game to keep up my fix.
Galaxy Force II - Love the game and love the soundtrack so even if I get bored of it I can listen to the music!
Theme Park - Mainly chose this game because it has so much lastability and games are very long.
Digital Pinball - Another game I can play over and over again without getting bored.

If I'd chosen the Saturn, none of my 10 games would have matched the games on your list. Just too many great games on the Saturn! :D

This may be cheating a little but here's my list.

I would take my backwards compatible PS3 and the following games
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night  PS1
Doom Custom Playstation Edition PS1
Namco Museum Vol. 1 PS1
Arc the Lad Collection PS1
PowerSlave PS1
SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 PS2
Samurai Shodown Anthology PS2
Capcom Classics Collection PS2
Taito Legends 2 PS2
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection PS3

That should last me till I get rescued or die  :P

A LOT of cheating with your non-retro system and choice of compilations!

D'yer know, I think I'm going to take a GameCube with the following games....

Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II - This game never gets dull and the Death Star attack is one of my favourite levels of any game on any system.

Resident Evil & Resident Evil 4 - I love these games on the Cube.  I may regret taking them as I'm not sure if the replayability would wear out before I get rescued from the island.  I'd play these in the evening/through the night and scare myself senseless on what I imagine would be a cold, dark and lonely island.

Eternal Darkness - See Res Evil!

[s:jxw9wcc2]Mario Kart Double Dash[/s:jxw9wcc2] - Epic racer that again never gets old for me.  Especially in multiplayer so all I'd need to do is train a local lobster, crab, and/or chimp how to use a pad and hey presto!

That's 5.  Ummm....

Ok, an odd one perhaps, but I'm going to stick Beach Spikers into my travel bag too.  A fun, engaging sports game again with a good amount of replay value.  Not to mention ladies in bikinis for those lonely nights.

4 more... to go... I'm wondering if I chose the right machine!!

Killer 7 - stunning game that on it's looks alone would, and does, entice me to play it more often than I expect to.

Wave Race and F-Zero GX - With MKDD these should help satisfy any craving I have for racing.

Final place in the bag goes to Twilight Princess.  I never did finish this game and I prefer it over Wind Waker.

That's the end of the list, but I have realised that Paper Mario is missing!  I'm going to dump MKDD in light of having F-Zero & Wave Race.

Phew!
