Hey everyone!
I'm back with a new game currently undergoing development, currently titled Project Halloweenville.
Here's a sample video: https://youtu.be/n77jaIdidtg
The game is planned to have 6 levels in total, with each level a unique scene, unique enemies, and a different boss for each level.
We're anticipating the game to be at completion near summer time. The progress has been excellent so far as most of the character actions have been programmed, the map engine is nearly 100% finished, and we're working hard on working out the finer details and getting each stage ready to be implemented into the engine.
I hope you like what we're up to!
Looks great so far! Keep us up to date on the development. :)
That looks really nice! Glad to have you back!
Wow mate that looks completely awesome..
Can't wait to see more on this.
Thanks!
Here's a video from late last night: https://youtu.be/utp-aPxh2d4
Better jump routine, changed some of the powers around a bit, added some new animations, etc.
Enjoy :)
Very cool! Thanks for keeping us updated!
This is super cool mate..

I haven't had much time in the last few days to do much, but I managed to sneak in a half hour or so tonight. Nothing major, just started the collision routines and added in sprite ordering so the player sprite goes behind the enemy sprites once you reach a certain value higher.
Loving where this is going, who's doing you all the sprites and so on?
I don't know if I've as you this before but, have you considered doing something like this for the Jaguar?

Jav from Retro Nerve is doing the artwork, I'm doing the programming, and we're both brainstorming the finer details.

I think you've asked about the Jaguar before :P I wouldn't rule it out, but I've never played a Jaguar (and don't even own one), so I wouldn't have the foggiest on where to begin.
You should consider programming for it (the Jaguar). I would love to see an original game like this done on the system but take advantage of the hardware to create an even more impressive 2D game.
Thats a fair shout Trek, I think you would sell bucket loads of Jag games, something original like this, maybe a port of it, look how good Rayman is on the Jag just shows what can be achieved.
Yes, that's exactly why I'm bringing it up. If there is one thing that can be done very well on the Jag is 2D platformers and other types of 2D games. Yes, the machine can do 3D stuff but it excels with 2D and Rayman is one example of that. I a game like Tanglewood would be ported and improved for the system as well. It would be cool to see some new original homebrews like these on the system.
Sorry to hijack the thread, dra600n but I love your games and I'm sure you'd make good work for the Jag. :)
Haha no worries :P
I'm recoding a good chunk of what I already did (fortunately it's not a whole lot), so this next video has some missing features (power-ups, enemy AI, attacks, and collisions) but I did add in collectibles, which is half of what this engine was made for xD

Nice. Love the bonus items to pick up. :)
Thanks!
One issue I ran into, even with all the code optimization, was slowdown still. I decided to disable the HBlank (which was giving us a 5th palette to use) and viola - slowness be-gone. That means we'll need a new HUD design, but I think we have a new solution that will be in place soon :)
Hows progress going fella?

Almost ready for a public demo :)
Wow, fantastic progress!
That looks really good!
Looks awesome fella. Progress is rapid that's for sure.
Alright, it's been a bit since I've given an update.
First, here's a video:

There's 2 music tracks in this preview - one at the intro screen (you can skip it if you want), and one for the stage. It's missing some sound effects still, and some things need tightening up, but it's coming along pretty well!
There's also some preview screens for the cut scenes :)
Wow, this is just getting better and better! Fantastic job so far!
Looks awesome mate. Progress has come on amazing.
Well done all involved.

The music is very impressive. It's actually some of the best I've heard on the Genesis so I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the complete soundtrack.
Kickstarter is live - lots of new screenies and a demo available!

Cool! Good luck. :)
How cool. Great work!!!! I don't know much about the Sega Genesis.
What's the screen resolution and how many on screen colours can the hardware handle?
Pete.

Thanks! The resolution is 320x224. The genesis can display 4 palettes with 15 colors plus 1 transparent color. Without tricks, 61 colors are displayable.
Congrats on the KS success fella.
Just watched the live stream, really impressed with the idea behind the stream the the content.
Well done guys.
