SNK has announced today that it will be jumping on the "Classic Edition" bandwagon with its own new system, which will come pre-loaded with beloved Neo Geo titles. For those who don't know, the Neo Geo was SNK's high-end home system from the '90s, which delivered arcade-quality gaming at eye-watering prices.
We've already seen the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition, and Sega recently announced it would be creating its own challenger in the form of the Mega Drive Mini. We've also witnessed classic home computers like the ZX Spectrum and C64 getting miniaturised.
This new hardware will no doubt contain titles from franchises such as Fatal Fury, King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown, and is being created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Japanese company. Many of these games are already available for download on the Switch eShop.

This will be their second attempt, although it sounds like they are doing it themselves this time. The Neo Geo X was made by another company. I have an X and I think it's pretty cool but I know some people didn't like it. Hopefully this will make all the fans happy.
I never got the X. Maybe this will be a worthwhile system to pick up.
Problem with the pre-loaded games on such a console is that they're 80% based on fighting games, which I don't like at all. There are so many other great SNK games.
Plus like I mentioned already before, using RetroArch on a PS3 does the job very well, and you have ALL their games.
This is fantastic news.
Certainly something I’m interested in.

They are supposedly leaked pics, but they very well could be fake.
If they are real, I'm definitely getting one!
Surely not lol?

You don't like the look of it or you don't think it's real?
I think it looks nice, but most likely it's fake.

Well now I hope it is real and that the finished unit looks exactly like the picture. :P ;D

I'm not getting my hopes up, but it would be nice if this turns out better than the X. What I would like to see happen is for SNK to allow users to purchase more games on a computer through an online store and load them onto an SD card which can then be inserted into the console. They miss so many great titles with all their compilations and I think it would be great for people like me who would buy all their fighting games so I can get the ones I want.
If they implement an SD card that would make the console even better. One can only hope.

That’s probably not going to happen, sadly enough.
Most likely. I would even be OK if they sold a card system with game packages that would let you expand the titles on the system.

Not to derail the thread but can you point me to where more info on setting this up might be? Would love to have this on PS3 as I don't use it for a lot at the moment.
Sounds pretty awesome to access all their stuff on it 8)
Is this it?

Hm, looks too much plastic for me :-\
Looks much better than the fake design, at least. :)

Has to be a modded console, you have to have a system that has had 3.56 support so basically anything up to a fairly early slim I think
Sounds like this is the real thing. Looks okay but I have zero interest in a 3.5" screen. Game list is also okay but not great.
Top Players Golf is included but Big Tournament Golf is a much better game and should have been in it's place.
Art of Fighting is here but the two sequels which are vastly improved games are missing.
Super Sidekicks is here but again the sequels are much better and missing.
No Baseball Stars.
No Aero Fighters.
No racing games.
Very few Shmups.
Looks like there are no third party titles which explains why some games are missing but still disappointing.

Great points. Skipping this one completely :P
Great points Shadow, you just bankrupted SNK... :o
In fairness I will probably get one of these, the mini Coin-Op on my work desk is very tempting as well as this Data East have gotten in the act for like $99 for their 30 which looks exactly near the same build and design as this?
Although a lot of games Shadow has mentioned not present, Shock troopers collection with me is enough for me....
Well on the subject of this seems this is becoming a kind of trend/fad. In the case of the neogeo it makes sense since its expensive , the megadrive atgames stuff is illogically an ARM-based software emulator (sega have released many console compilation over the years anyway) and nintendos efforts are polished but not perfect in terms of emulation.
An interesting bit of info shared in this video.

I would just like to point out that the supposed fake picture I posted is VERY similar to the final Japanese model.

Lol I still ain’t a fan. Button arrangement is wrong for a start. Lol

It sure is! LOL I'll pardon the design because of the HDMI and controller ports.
Here is a video review of this Noe Geo...
https://youtu.be/l3p2OPm6gG8
Wow cant believe there is no battery inside! As he says, its not usable as a portable now, cant even charge it up, pretty poor decision to make imo.
Why would they do that, unbelievable decision.
It is a very strange decision. They must have really wanted to hit that price but I think most people buying this would have payed a bit more to have an internal battery.
I did see one review where they mentioned it would run off of a portable charger. Not perfect but better than nothing and I know I have a couple of them sitting here collecting dust. I'd finally have a reason to use them!
Thats the trouble with more and more manufacturers, they EXPECT us to have the stuff to be able to run what we are buying, same for the NES Mini etc, but at least in that case that came with a hdmi cable.
But come on, them selling thousands it would cost only pennies to add them, sign of things to come? sure, am i bothered? yeah could sway me to not buy one now.
Neo Geo was a sign of luxury, this product has no battery, no cables and no joypad for 2 player, heck you even have to put the decals on yourself, far from the luxery look, even the Neo Geo X looked and was packaged better than this (emulation not withstanding).
Just saw that Amazon is selling these for $29.99 right now. Only on the American site but if that's where you live and you don't have one that is a great deal!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07D1KN661/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
That's an awesome deal! I went ahead and ordered it. I never had a NeoGeo and I don't think you can go wrong at that price. It seems the one that is white, red, and blue is also on sale but for twice the price. Besides the aesthetic difference, I watched some reviews and it seems that model's screen is darker than on the International model that is selling for $29.99. The game selection is also not the same. There are 14 games that are different.
Cool! You really can't go wrong with that price.
