Seen as everyone liked my computer themed Battle Of The Bands chip tune showdown I thought I would do a console vs. computers one too.
So here it is, the iconic Magical Sound Shower music from Sega's Out Run. What's your favourite 16-bit version?

The original arcade game used a Yamaha sound chip in it.
Both the Mega Drive and Atari ST have a Yamaha sound chip too, albeit different ones.
The Amiga and PC Engine both have their own custom sound chips.
I personally think the Amiga version is downright terrible and the PCE and ST versions are pretty good but the MD wins this one easy for me, especially as it has the drums spot on.
I think i prefer the PC Engine version.

Really?Â

I did think it was better the second time I listened to it though.
For me the Mega Drive wins by a long shot!
Mega Drive
Yes I think we can all agree that the mega drive version is more to the arcade version here, than any other, and this is something I hate to admit , Im not the biggest mega drive sound chip fan in the world, but they've done an exceptional job on this one..for a change
Mega Drive easily. PC Engine next then the ST.
The Amiga version is fine if it was actually a C64.
I actually think the ST version is the best, it sounds a lot clearer and closer to the original

The music on the ST version is the exact same music as the Spectrum 128k version!
Looks like the Mega Drive has taken the spoils here!!!
