I just saw this article and figured I'd share it.  Should make for an interesting discussion.  So, what do you think?  Is it time for Nintendo to abandon consoles?  Check out the article here:  It’s time for Nintendo to exit the console business (http://www.slashgear.com/its-time-for-nintendo-to-exit-the-console-business-05454578/)

People have been saying this for years now, and I would have to agree with them. However, with a new console coming out it's not going to happen any time soon. If the NX fails like the Wii U did then I'm sure there will be more discussions about it.

It'll be interesting to see what the reception is for the NX.  Nintendo does manage to find ways to make their consoles attractive, though.  They may do well enough to stay on the race.  I found it interesting that the author of the article is a self-proclaimed Nintendo fanboy and still believes the company should abandon making consoles.

I thought they should've gotten out right after the Gamecube :P
So, around December 2001 imo.

LOL  Oh, you're a bad, bad boy.  So, they are 15 years too late as far as you're concerned!

Articles like this always crop up and should that site give up articles or not?

I am twisting the question because the article is pointless and frustrating. No is the simple answer to the Nintendo question at least.

Why should a company still making a profit and the only founding games maker still going to any decent level at least give up.. We should all embrace the next console, believe me the facts are simple, keeping Nintendo is in our interests as gamers and any Nintendo hater needs to wake up and see that.

I think they should come out with another console. My only concern is their neverending attempts at setting a new standard or being different. Direct competition with the other 2 dominating consoles would be ideal to keep the market in check instead of wii-u, tiny disks or virtual gameboys. These, to me have separated Nintendo in the last generations from the 'real' market and although still an entry, more like the crazy aunt at Thanksgiving that the rest of invite and tolerate bc she's part of the family.
Or like a goth/emo teenager trying to be different but putting themselves at regular people events to get noticed. Stop all that stupid sh*t and get in the game. Play time is over and in the real world people want solid options. Nintendo seems to bank its future in some of these endeavors but with each iteration, their name is meaning less and less compared to the days when they were the ONLY name in the industry. Feels like Nintendo has lost it's mind to me.

And LOL at should that site give up articles or not. Made me laugh :D

Of course they shouldn't give up, its not as if they are loss making like Sega were back in the day.
I feel with the success of the Wii they will still try something different as they know there is a bigger slice of the pie if they can get the casual gamers like the Wii did, it doesn't matter if its half-way through this generation, casual gamers will always be there, if the price is right sub £200 then it will sell with a great launch title.

I personally will wait this time, i got burned with the Wii U, sure it had some good exclusives, but a serious lack of 3rd party support and lots of canned games along the way gave it a sour taste, even Nintendo were dragging out 1st party titles over the last 2 years, Starfox, Zelda etc  we know they were basically done Nintendo, its just your release schedule had serious gaps to fill so they got pushed back.

The only interesting thing about the NX to me is the use of cards/carts, if its rumoured these 32gb cards can just be inserted without any installing and it has 20 decent titles then i will jump, until then, very cautiously watching from afar!

I'm glad Nintendo still make consoles. There's not the market to have three identikit consoles but Nintendo do their own thing and that gives there software uniqueness.

Of the latest generation of consoles we have in our household my WiiU gets the most use (From my 4 year old daughter). Its been fashionable to say Nintendo should do a Sega and only make software but Sega are a shadow of their former selves and I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

You could apply the same argument to Microsoft now (distant second in current gen) or Sony during lean PS3 years. In my opinion its normally click bait. People also forget the Wii was the most successful console of the last generation whether you like that or not. Others will say PC is the way forward but forget the shocking ports of top games like Arkham City.
