PRGE 2015 (http://retrogamingexpo.com/)
That would be a lot of fun but a little too far away. Look forward to the pictures people post around.
Same I would love a chance to attend..
Here's some pictures of the event from the Atari Age booth:

I have to say how impressive that setup is by the AA guys.. I mean, that's proper professional looking, could be a retro event on its own lol.. Awesome work guys.
Those pictures are really awesome! Gauntlet II for the Jaguar?!?!Â
Yeah I was surprised by that too. There was a guy over at AA converting ST games to the Jag and Gauntlet 2 was one of them. I assume that's what this is but I'm not sure.
It's on a cart, so it may be a proper port.
Yeah you know what, I noticed that and thought WTF... Even more surprise now you two are surprised lol..
ComputerSpaceFan at AA posted this video...

That looked like one great event. AA's setup was phenomenal.
Thought I'd spotted some custom controllers in all those pics. :113:

I'm looking forward to more info on the Gauntlet II carts! Is there sound on the rom that you have? I thought I read that there wasn't any, but that was a while ago.

Yes, definitely has sound. Have it loaded up in VJ right now (and forgot to turn down the volume)
It's the version from here (//http).
Looks like Gauntlet II on cart and possibly other games could become a reality over on AA. If so, I'm excited about expanding my collection with trios of each, if possible

That would be awesome
I'm going to this even this year and I'm really looking forward to it! There are quite a few guests that will be cool to meet. Here are some names:
Metal Jesus Rocks
Pat Contri and Ian Ferguson
David Crane
Joe Decuir
Al Alcorn
Atari Programmers - Bob Smith, Tod Frye, Rob Zdybel, Howard Scott Warshaw
Howard Scott Warshaw
The Gaming Historian
Game Sack
The event takes place October 21-23 this year and it is three days long this time around. You can see more details by going to the link on the first post. Any RVG members going? I know the guys from The Intellivisionaries are going. :)
Sounds good. I won't be going but looks like quite the event this time 8)
Last year's event was pretty awesome from what I saw people post. This one looks to be even better. There are always exclusive releases at this event as well. I believe there are a number of Intellivision titles being released this year and maybe even something for the Jaguar.
That rocks. I'd like to meet James Rolfe lol. Guy kills me :D
Well, the day has come. I'm about to head to the airport so I can fly to Portland for PRGE! I can hardly wait to be there (but I do have a long stretch of flights before I make it!). My last box of RVG business cards is coming along with me so I can spread the word. :)
Awesome, man! Good luck with the traveling and looking forward to seeing some pics :)
Cool! Have fun and take lots of pics :)
Thanks and definitely! Got the camera ready. :)
OK guys, I have put together my pictures album from the event. You can see the pictures here: PRGE 2016 (https://goo.gl/photos/iiejGyXpoT6xcwf9A). A couple of pics were taken by someone else (like the group pictures) but I wanted to include them. You can check out a video of Jr. Pac-Man, introduced at the event, below.

Great pics :) Love that wall of boxed 2600 games!
Thanks! Yes, that was quite the display in the museum. One cool thing about this even was getting to meet some of the programmers, who are very nice guys. I wonder if we can interview some of them for the site. Bob Smith and Denis Koble who started Imagic would be cool to interview.
Awesome video of Jr Pacman. I'd love to be playing that right now 8)
Those game display 'walls' are insane! Jesus, that must be a ton of work to put all that together.
I've never seen anything like that and wondering how much they cost. Don't know if I'd really be able to set up something similar in my house but interesting nonetheless.
Great pics. Looks like this year was the biggest so far.
I bet that event rakes in a crapload of money to the area. Did you have to get your reservations 6 months in advance? Just wondering how fast the hotels sell out and stuff like that. I saw a bunch of Japanese import games on one of the tables along with a Super Famicom. I'd love to have one of those too lol. Not the mini one coming out but the real deal. The one I was looking at was still in the box... or it was an empty box :p
Any recollection what the going price was for some of the vintage consoles?
Man, that looks like a blast 8)
Hey Saturn, let me see what I can answer.
1. Jr. Pac-Man on the Intellivision is still being worked on but will be seeing release in 2017. It's almost complete.
2. The cost of the mid-sized booths is $275 which does include two tickets. No idea what the larger ones cost but it should be over $500.
3. I didn't check the prices for the consoles as I wasn't really looking for one. I glanced at some add-ons and did see some Nomads but the prices for those went from a bit pricey to ridiculous.
4. I did all my travel and hotel in February of this year, so a good 8 months ahead of time. That got me the hotel room at the convention rate ($130/night) at the DoubleTree. The Motel 6 nearby cost $100/night. The $30 more per night was worth it, from what I heard. I did use miles for the ticket to get there but it cost me the lowest amount possible given the advance "purchase."

That's useful info, thanks. Wow, 8 months in advance. I know there were last minute people who went and I can only imagine the accommodations left lol.
That's pretty cool TrekMD. :D
Sure thing! I'd love to go again next year. I will certainly try! :)
I have to say the event really was great fun. I met a bunch of the AA Intellivision guys (they're all in the group picture I posted) and some other AA members. We had special badges with our screen names and avatars on them.
I met Norman, The Gaming Historian, and spoke with him for a bit. I didn't know he actually is a history teacher! He decided to not teach in schools anymore and to dedicate himself to "teaching" about video games on YouTube. Nice guy to speak with.
I also spoke with Howard Scott Warshaw for a bit. He remembered me from a previous event last year in Texas. I had him autograph a Yar's Revenge cart and manual. :)
The other guy who was great to speak to was Steve Golson from GCC. He gave the story of the Atari 7800 (the pictures I posted are of the original Atari 3600 board!) and it was really frustrating to see all that Atari had planned for the system only to have Jack Tramiel kill it. Had Atari launched the 7800 as originally planned and with the support and add-ons originally developed, I think Nintendo would have had a harder time entering the US market.
Incredible stuff. I wondered who the people were in the group photo. Intellivision guys from AA huh. That's wild.
I saw the pics of the 3600 board (or chip) and had no idea what it was. I thought to myself, an Atari 3600? Pffft there's no such thing.. :p Man, what could've been.
So, history could be a lot different if Jack never entered the scene. If only.. but then again, my Jaguar collection probably wouldn't mean as much to me.
That's cool about getting the Yar's Revenge stuff signed. That would be priceless to me.
It'd be great if someone did live Youtube streams from the event. Get to see some live footage of all those upcoming games like Rebooteroids or Xevious. It was loud in there from what I heard on your video. Awesome
The convention itself will post videos of the panels online and you'll be able to find them in YouTube.
Besides Yar's Revenge, I got Asteroids, Halo and Pac-Man signed by their programmers. I also had the artist for the cover sign my Haunted House cart & manual. :)
Here is an official album from the convention: Portland Retro Gaming Expo 2016 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/54509172@N06/sets/72157672108054723/).
Those are fantastic! Did you get AVGN's autograph?
Some amazing pics, the place looked packed. All those people wearing their backpacks or carrying their purse while playing the games. Not safe to set anything down??
I'd love to have this controller (https://www.flickr.com/photos/54509172@N06/30463647891/in/album-72157672108054723/) for my Jaguar!
This Freddy Kruger glove (https://www.flickr.com/photos/54509172@N06/30515263826/in/album-72157672108054723/) is beyond awesome 8)
Ha, and this (https://www.flickr.com/photos/54509172@N06/29920661384/in/album-72157672108054723/) was a nice little addition..
Thanks for posting those :D
I did not even see the AVGN! He was there for a short time. I did see Pat and Norman, though. :)
That controller looks awesome, the glove I didn't even see, nor did I see that Chameleon! I wonder where that was?!?
Here is a video of the event taken by AA member LiqMat:

Awesome photos trek, I'd love to visit one of these events , especially with my coin op book, reckon I'd sell a few at that event?
Oh, I'm sure you would sell plenty. Tim certainly sold lots of his books! They ran out of the standard edition books and sold plenty of the special edition books from what I saw.
Wow, I would have to dropship mine, but its good to dream all the same, would love to travel there and meet all of you here and in the States, it would be a great once off event
You certainly can! There were folks from Europe at the event. :)
The event looks great and the AA stand looked amazing. I was amazed by the amount of homebrew that could be purchased at the event. I bet the stand was hard for Atari aficionados to walk past. All those Commodore CRT screens too!
There are hombrews that are either released early at PRGE or sometimes exclusively. There was a new 2600 exclusive to PRGE being sold bit it was a bit too expensive for my taste. They were asking $75 for a clone of Breakout, essentially. One interesting thing I saw was that they were selling SuperCharger games on CD. Someone had made and packaged individual games that way, which I thought was cool.

Wow, I knew the place was huge but that puts it into a different perspective. A lot bigger than I'd thought.
Yes it does, which is why the video is so great. And you are only seeing the vendor room and the game room. Never mind the museum and auditoriums.
Thought I'd share these pictures of my autographed carts and manuals for a few 2600 games. I should have brought some Imagic games too! Next time, I guess. :)

That is outstanding! 8) 8)
Thanks! Tod Frye spoke about why he made Pac-Man as it was. He said that no one really knew at the time that an arcade port had to look as close to the arcade as possible. Had he known, he would have at least used black background and a blue maze but Atari always wanted games to have a colored background. Apparently that was done to avoid phosphor burn on the screens as it happened fast with black backgrounds. He said it would have saved him some bytes he could have used elsewhere in the game!
I actually got those carts specifically so I could get them autographed. Cheap and easy games to get. Halo 2600 I got free. :)
That's very interesting about Pac man. Ahh, what could be learned from these guys is unlimited.
Great planning for the autographs. Went from cheap pick ups to priceless pieces of gaming history in a weekend :)

Exactly! :)
Lol Trek, forever the master plan churning in your mind to take over the retro scene lol.. Buying cheap carts to get them signed.. lol..
Looks fantastic mate.
Funny thing is that it didn't occur to me until about a week before the event! LOL
