Video Game Market (//http)
Leeds Town Hall - Saturday 15th March 2014
Open 10am - 4pm
1,000s Of Video Games
Collectibles, Merch & more
Everything From Spectrum, SNES, Dreamcast To PlayStation 4
Fed up of missing the bargains at the car boot sales? Annoyed at the frequent bidding wars on online auction sites? Prefer to inspect your item before buying? You're in luck!
On Saturday 15th March 2014 RetroCollect (//http) is hosting the very first UK Video Game Market in the centre of Leeds. This event will host up to 40 different traders/sellers each with their own stock of video games - old and new - allowing you to shop to your heart's content, in person, without the early morning starts or the constant refreshing to check your bids.
Expect to see countless retro & modern games, rare titles, Japanese & US import releases, video game merchandise, toys, comics & books, strategy guides, modified consoles and much much more!
And last but not least, be sure to bring along your spare games and unwanted titles. Trading is very much encouraged, and who knows, you may find that your gaming holy grail is within reach through part-exchanging and some old-fashioned car boot sale style haggling!

Cheers guys.
only 2 weeks to go now guys! so who is coming along to buy stuff?
Wish i could pal..
I'll be there, brief shopping list:
A working Game Gear! - I'll be taking 3 x none working (2 x power, 1 x screen) that I'll be hoping someone will trade against a new one
An Amiga 1200! - Ive decided my old one is far too gone to repair, yellow cracked and held together with tape, The HDD/expansion works just needs transferring to new amiga.
Also I notice "Once the Video Game Market has finished, we'll be meeting up in the nearby pub Mr Foley's Cask Ale House for a good bit of gaming banter afterwards - so head on down at 7pm onwards to showcase what you picked up and chat to likeminded gamers. "
Mr Foleys is an excellent ale house and has some excellent brews on tap, and some er interesting 7/8/9% ciders lol

Cool, you from Leeds then? You should check out Gear for Games stall then, he is taking lots of game gear stuff, he repairs them too, should be able to get a good deal with him. Amiga wise you should be in luck too :-) Few computer sellers there too.

Cracking cheers, I was hoping to get at least 2 fixed for purely nostalgia reasons as they were mine and my brothers from new, the 3rd was a gift from an ex housemate before he went travelling.
Amigawise I'm actually hoping for the same now, get the innards of my A1200 tranferred to a new case and then discuss how best transfer my data from my 400mb (£125 in 1997 kids!) internal HDD to one of these new fangled flash cards.
Not in Leeds now but lived there for 8 years, still close enough that this would be rude to ignore!
400mb hdd in an amiga, that means you must have been posh :-)Â I only had an 80mb hdd :-)
if you want advice on doing that case swap and hdd to cf drive you would be best to sign up to amibay forum as loads of people on there could tell you or there is a chap who offers this service as well :-)

When I bought it it was the most money I had spent myself on anything, including the Amiga itself! I think the computer was £75ish second hand and the drive £125ish.
I'll check out amibay
LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO!!
As well as the selling we will also be having Psychotic Psoftware's Xbox Live and PC game to play and also hoping everyone can vote for it on Steam Greenlight too :-)

Ive messaged 'Gear for Games' on eBay about getting my GGs fixed on the day, fingers crossed!
Not posted in ages but thought I would come on and say I shall be at the market on Saturday and I really hope its a success and something that can grow and maybe turn into a bi-anually/quarterly or even monthly thing.
Ill be on the lookout for some virtual boy games (finally got a boxed one a couple of months ago), SNES stuff and maybe another gameboy
see you all there

Same as mate, these things are always either to far away or when i just can not spare the time.. One day though lol..
Poor start here, arrived and I'm queuing to get in. I'm here to spend money but object to having to wait for the privilege>:(
Hang on we had to queue at Eurogamer lol.
Yeah but that wasn't so I can give someone loads of money!
Mission accomplished anyway, got 2 x new game gears and 1 sent for repair. Also bought a BUG Joystick for my computer.
Got a contact for my Amstrad and Amiga needs - Rockrabilia

Well I have to say I ended up being very disappointed and rather annoyed with the whole event.
Arrived just after 10am to find a que going half way around the town hall outside. Stood there for around a hour before getting in to see
- A mad scrum to get near any stall
- A couple of stalls selling things for a ridiculous amount (if anyone paid the price one of the stalls were selling the boxed snes or the amiga cd32 for then Im sorry you got extremely ripped off)
- Just a bunch of rude people barging through people to get to things
I tried to get a snes controller from one of the stalls to get completely pushed out of the way from someone just so they could point to something on the stall, laugh at it, then walk away. I left pretty much immediately after that (after only being there about 20 minutes)
It was just poorly planned and would have to be a completely different idea before I even begin to think about doing the 2 hour trip I did to go to another.
1 last thing - The stall that will remain nameless for now that were franticly taking all the stickers off their items and putting new ones on nearly double the price for some things were a complete disgrace. They took a game out of my hand to put a new sticker on £5 higher.

Chillout Games by any chance? I caught them doing this at Revival last year.

I dont think so, I have the name on a picture on my phone. It was the opposite corner of the room to the entrance.
Bit more info...
I'd agree the venue for the event was too small, and some of the visitors a little overzealous in their pushing manner which meant I wasnt inclined to spend as much time browsing as I would have, 2 stalls I didnt actually see as it was too bunched up.
There were some good people to chat to though - the Rockrabilia shop is going to be a fav of mine I think as they based only a few miles from me making pick up easyÂ

Yeah he the lady on the stall were best people I spoke to, Ive been on their eBay site and there some things not on there he said he had so I'll drop him a line later this week when I know how much more I can spend lol
The LeedsRetro page on FB has a few commens re the overcrowding - is that common at these events?
Not really no, most events are fine, probably why so many people are pissed off.
Only a few weeks now until the next event!

Ah good, I hate it when any events are over subscribed/too busy as you spend too much time queuing or waiting rather than actually doing what you went for
Hi everyone, i have finally recovered from the weekend (and what a weekend it was) so I wanted to give a massive thanks out to everyone who attended, sold at and helped us out at the VideoGame Market on Saturday, its great to see soo many people who are interested in retro gaming, i met lots of great people, caught up with lots of old friends and I'm so happy to see the scene being embraced so well.
It was a successful day all round i believe, but there were a number of issues. As it was the first event it was a sort of unknown, we were kind of testing the market for this, but its a learning experience and we can now plan bigger and better for the next one and plan accordingly so we don't get the same issues as this one.
The turnout for this took us completely by surprise to be honest, we always thought that there was a demand for a purely sales event but never on that level. So a truly heartfelt thank you for everyone who waited patiently to get in and putting up with the heat and the crowding.
We were expecting around the 4/500 mark to turn up over the course of the 6 hours, this is the standard type of volume that the comic fairs, toy fairs and vinyl fairs get in Leeds. We also looked at the big events like Play Expo, Revival, Nerg, Geek, they get lots more visitors but as they have so much more on offer than just selling and are designed to keep you there and entertained for a whole weekend, people go to them for a larger number of reasons, so we honestly believed that 4/500 was a realistic number for the day........ but we actually had over 1500 tickets sold! (and thats not including all of the under 16s who came in for free).
The venue had a maximum capacity which we reached early on, and then for health and safety reasons it had to operate on a one in one out policy, so unfortunately it did mean that people had to wait for long periods of time, but as the day went on the queues went down and in the end everybody would have been able to get in. We went through the queue a few times apologising for the wait, giving out sweets and t shirts and everyone we spoke to seemed ok with it (and it looked like a lot of people were making new retro buddies in the queue). So thanks for the patience and understanding guys, hope you all got some good pickups inside.
We definitely need a much much larger venue next time and that is what we will get for you guys! In hindsight we should have gone for the main hall room, it is massive and would have had the space to accommodate everyone easily but we have learned a lot from Saturday and we can now plan accordingly for future events now we have real tangible numbers to work with. Let us know your thoughts too, what did you enjoy, what didn't you like, what did you buy too?
Personally, it was great to see so much retro goodness in one room, i love seeing all of the games, machines and fellow enthusiasts. Thanks again for coming, thanks to everyone involved and I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the next one.
Roll on the sequel!! .....

I felt sorry for the bloke selling modded gameboys in that corner.
Twice whilst I was there he had his stall completely knocked over from people leaning over to the stall selling nintendo games.
