If you could own just three classic arcade coin-ops what would they be?

My three would be,

My three most-wanted classics right now would probably be: Star Wars, Tron, and Star Castle.

Bloody difficult question but I will go with the following 3, not just because they are all games I love but also because they never got a perfect home conversion.

It's an utterly brilliant arcade driving game from Atari thats full of humour and uses the same graphics chip as Pit-Fighter so has lots of digitised graphics and scaling effects.

There is a pretty good Atari Falcon version, a terrible SNES version and a very decent Lynx prototype.

I would have what DreamcastRIP said but replace Star Wars with Bubble Bobble.

I loved that some much back in the day..all the chicks standing around you when you boosted, little did they know Boosted in all the wrong places while lying into that cab lol...

Whenever I hear Atari's classic coin-op Crystal Castles mentioned I can't get the memory of that weird bloke using the trackball with his feet in The King of Kong out of my mind! ;D

Ahh, there's one that brings back memories.   That was a favorite of mine when there used to be arcades around here.   Bloody brilliant game. It needs to make an appearance on a console or something, somehow.   Alot of retro games being given that treatment lately, this one needs it too!

As it is, I do in fact have an arcade cabinet, but it's not any of those three, I have a Golden Tee compilation.

Street Fighter II Championship Edition - my fave game in the world ever!

Euro Soccer Champ (hattrick hero) - a great 2 player game that me and my best mate would play even now

WWF Wrestlefest - the classic.

I'd like to add that this thread has answered a question that has bugged me for years! There was a game I played at Megabowl, a 2 player shooter with spaceship and stuff, I could never even NEARLY remember it or even describe it! Low and behold it's in this thread 'space lords'  This is a great find! thanks!

I think I'd also have to go for one Outrun and one Star Wars cockpit cabinet.

Primal Rage. It may not have been the best fighting game, but it had a lot of neat ideas, including mixing the more technical Street Fighter gameplay with the blood of Mortal Kombat. Also, dinosaurs. You like dinosaurs, right? I like dinosaurs. Plus, you can ONLY play this game properly on an actual cabinet, so...

Outrunners. For a while, I was thinking Cruisin' USA, but technically, I'd say this is the better game. Plus, I love the cool double cabinet.

The Grid. Another game you can't properly... or at all... on any emulator, this is a 3rd person shooter in the vein of Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament that I'd love to try out, just once.

Like Mire Mare I could easly pick I, Robot, I was adicted for quite some time! But seeing that it´s impossible to find one I will get Gorf as it reunites some of the best classic shooters in one game and the cabinet is really cool:

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo. My favourite Tetris-style game of all time.

Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off-Road. Potentially my favourite arcade racer, and the cabinet itself is a classic.

Defo has to be Star Wars sit down....spent many a 10p playing on that just for the sound and visual delight at the time.
Another is Outrun deluxe sit down, again better the experience with full hydrolics as you had full lock turning the corners!
Other driving games Daytona, Virtua Racing and Ridge Racer all play 10 times better in the arcade than they did at home and would love to have them all....geez better empty my garage out!

I want the Off-Road cabinet.

There were others I enjoyed but these stick in my memory especially Crystal Castles because it was a game that had an ending if you were good enough

My choices are pretty much the same as Cryptic33's.  The only difference is SW instead of Gauntlet.

I had quite a few favorites back in the day, but these are definitely my top 3:
Gorf
Tron
Robotron

Tron is a game that never got a proper port to a home system.  It would have required a special controller but it would have been cool to see it adapted.

I could be happy with Major Havoc, T-Mek and Space Lords. I already own BattleZone which is a favorite, RoadBlasters, Crystal Castles, Asteroids Deluxe, a "multi-pede" with Centipede, Millipede and Missile Command on it. It's hard to resist Atari arcade goodness

Thanks! It was a dream of mine ever since I first came across an arcade as a kid in the late 80s and soon afterwards seeing TRON. I wanted to be like Kevin Flynn. I'm almost there - while I don't plan on living in an apartment above my arcade, I would certainly like to get into some arcade game development one day as well
