Title: What retro game would you most like to get a remake?
Post by: TL on March 04, 2012, 15:52:32 PM
It's all the rage these days to remake retro games so which one would you like to see done next?

My personal choice is Back To Skool, it would make an amazing game for something like Xbox live and they could add in features like multiplayer with you and your friends all able to be a character within the school!

I like to see a HD re-vamp of Panzer Dragoon Saga (not a remake as such, but it could be very nice)

I would love to see Strider from the Amiga.

Played it for an age.

yes I second this, but it looked like there was gonna be a one, for the next gen consoles, been developed by "GriN Software" before they when bust. they even had a cgi teaser for it, you can see it here
Teaser Videogame (//http)

a real shame, as I reckon Strider needs to make a return, rather than a guest appearence

Flashback - not even in 3D though, the same style but with an even bigger world to explore, enhanced graphics, speech etc.

I'd like to see them re-do the original Silent Hill - to the same sort of level that the RE remake on Gamecube had. They had the chance with the Silent Hill HD collection. But ignored it!  >:(

I would like to see that as well.

Have you heard of Shadow Complex on XBLA?

Namco have re-done Xevious, Pacman, Galaga and Pac-Land so a remake of Dig Dug is well overdue!!!

But there is a remake of Dig Dug in the Namco Museum for the PSP!  It is quite fun to play and each land you play in has a "boss" you must defeat in order to move forward.  I'm not sure if this is the remake you had in mind but I believe it qualifies.

Here is a regular screen of the game in one of the worlds:

Love playing this!  :)

I'm slightly impatiently waiting for Lords of Midnight to appear on iOS.  There have been some good pc remakes of LoM, including a multiplayer version that I forget the name of - it is years since I played it, but I'm very much looking forward to Mike Singleton releasing LoM.  Please let it happen!!

Hopefully Doomdark will also get the same treatment and then, perhaps,  the tantalisingly named The Eye of The Moon will finally emerge.  [/wishfulthinking]

A few others I'd love to see remade for modern platforms, with the proviso that the original versions are bundled(!), are; WOTEF, Exile, Elite, Frak!, Nebulus and Maniac Mansion.  Not much to ask for.  Oh, and and all the Infocom adventures for iOS - original versions probably not necessary!

This is a game I'd love to see remade:

It seems that every version I can find is a port of the original arcade.  I cannot find a modernized version.

I would love to see a remake of the C64 game Doriath. It would be a great opportunity to improve  a great game and also make the game completeable without cheats (due to a missing amulet and a large part of the maze of tunnels lying empty).

Namco released two 'Namco Classics Collection' arcade PCBs in the 90's that included original and 'arranged' remakes of Galaga, Xevious/Super Xevious, and Mappy on Vol. 1 (I have this PCB :) ) and Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and Rally-X on Vol. 2.

Some of the new versions, like Dig Dug Arrangement, were included in the Namco Museum compilation for PS2, GC, and Xbox.

There's also the portable version of Dig Dug Arrangement that TrekMD mentioned, which is very different than the arcade/console remake. That version was included in the PSP Namco Museum Battle compilation and later released for iOS.

Mr. Do on the SNES is excellent. Basically the arcade game with improved graphics and a 2 player battle mode.

There's also Neo Mr. Do for the Neo Geo MVS. Major update that's not as good as the original but still a fun game... esp. 2 player. I don't think it ever had a home version, but you could probably try it with an emulator.

Well, I have MAME.  Don't I need some sort of ROM file so it can play Neo Geo games?

Some versions of MAME need a Neo Geo BIOS but the version I have on my computer now already has it and actually came with a few Neo Geo ROM images  8)

Thanks!  I found the MAME32UIFX page but have not downloaded it yet. The version number I see there is 0.146.  Must be a newer version than the one you have, no?

Cool, I will downloading it later then.  :)  I have a very old version of MAME that I use to run 5200 games.

Yeah that could work!

Along the 3D theme remakes of Atari's I Robot and Major Havoc arcade games would be awesome!  8)
