We have done Jaguar, Lynx, and 3DO. So here are some for another highly under rated machine, the Sega Mega CD:

Bloody'ell Laird, your creaming through the stuff i sent, tempted to send the rest of it at this rate (joking, will give you time to cool your scanner down lol).
That Battlecorps review is something else that really P**ED me off with C+VG reviews, fantastic game, made stunning use of the hardware, gets a very worthy score (92%) and yet review cramned into a mere page, few lines of text, reviewer comments, score etc.
Deserved a lot more space i feel.
Agreed, Battlecorpse is a great game! Core really were the savior of the system.
Quote from: "Shadowrunner"Agreed, Battlecorpse is a great game! Core really were the savior of the system.
Had the utmost respect for CORE, they really tapped into hardware like the MCD, 32X and Saturn and were not afraid to praise the platforms when others just mocked them.Really wish they'd updated Battlecorps on Saturn, no idea what sales of MCD game were like though.
Just seemed a pity as BC Racing and Thunderhawk got new instalments or updated versions on more powerful platforms, but not Battlecorps.Never went much on Blam Machine Head nor that Tank game on PS1/Saturn (who's name escapes me), Ninja and Swagman i had on Saturn, but still feel their best days were on ST/Amiga/MD+MCD.
Sorry, it is not a Mega CD game. Surprised me, that it was so far along in development and not released!

Of course it is, Mega CD and Sega CD are the same thing.

The only thing I noticed was they gave it a very generous score 0f 65!

Whilst i was'nt a fan of the film, it was great to see SEGA do something different with the MCD version of J.Park rather than just tart-up, the god awful MD platform game, with J.Park.was'nt my cup of tea, but this approach the MCD could have done with a lot more of....
As for MCD Powermonger (huge fan of game on ST+MD), just how the hell they made the CD version run slower than the Cart.version, when MCD had faster CPU and custom chips not found on MD, i'll never know, not a great advert for the hardware, sadly.

Although i bought M.K on cart (at full price) i soon tired of it.MCD version just added an a few extras, plus had loading times, so kinda a pointless release, so i can kind of see where score is coming from, they could i suppose have given a seperate score for those who did'nt have cart version/had MCD?.
I don't own the cart version of MK for the MD so I have always wanted to pick up the CD version as somebody on another forum told me it was far superior, from reading that review it seems he was telling fibs. It seems to go for fairly high prices on eBay, especially in comparison to the cart.
Looks as if I should pick up Jurassic Park at some point.

Pity they have wrong screenshots for MCD Dune.
Also, talking of MCD, finally catching up with back issues of Retro gamer, saw MCD in Minority Report and some bizzare nominations for games in places. No mention of:Dune, Terminator S.E, Thunderhawk, Blast Corps, Soul Star, you know games that actually used the hardware sprite chips etc to great effect?.
Heavenly Symphony is awful.
And this was someone playing through '...some of the finest games' it had to offer.....not impressed.
Darran wrote that, I was disappointed at the lack of Core Design games present in the list. Soul Star, Battle Corps and Thunderhawk should have been a shoe-in.

The Mega CD version of MK is the only home version I've ever played so I can't really say how it compares to other ports but I always liked it. As for Jurassic Park, I rented it once and thought it was a great game. I'll have to pick it up some day too.

Looks like he knows as much about the games as he does the hardware then, lol.
Core were keen to push the MCD that little bit further with each release after the stunning Thunderhawk and not to have that or Blast Corps in a line up of it's finest games, whilst MD ports with CD sound etc on did make the grade was just shocking.
Chalk up another RG piece where i knew a damn sight more about the subject material than person who wrote it.Never used to be this way with RG.

Memory card i'm putting with next parcel will have a lot of MCD reviews on, so you should have some new material soon.
:-)
Sort of 'following on' from points brought up recently in the Jaguar reviews/look back thread, talking of mixed messages coming from UK press and 'flawed review logic:
Mean Machines Sega slamned into likes of:Powermonger, Prince Of Persia, Afterburner III, Wolfchild, Ninja warriors, Night Strikers etc etc for basically not using the capabilities of the hardware, be it the sprite based stuff or storage of CD or not being the sort of game they expect to find on MCD due to age etc, all fine and dandy points, yet they loved Slipheed whilst admiting it really was Galaxians using pre-rendered visuals streamed off CD and Ecco on CD scored a whopping 96% and they admit it only really offered up Qsound, 5 extra levels and some FMV over the cart version.so just what they wanted from MCD games often seemed 'cloudy'.
Edge meanwhile, who in mission statement were not going to be swayed by fancy visuals, dressing up old gameplay, they wanted innovation damnit....
MCD reviews of Ecco 8/10.reviewer makes clear it DOES'NT use the MCD potential, by just having, you guessed it, 5 extra levels, Qsound etc.
But slipheed whilst scoring lower, 7/10, oh review is a dozy alright.starts off by admiting it does'nt live up to the hype, then goes onto describe how gameplay is 'inspired' by Galaga', bosses review says are pathetic.
Turn few pages, bizarely a feature on it again, Import review type thing, lot of screens+text, no score, but
text goes onto detail how game was originally out on NEC PC-88SR 8 years previousily! and all designers have done is take the 8 year old gameplay, merge it with pre-rendered polygons streamed off CD, sprites laid on top, then there's details on a 'rather weedy looking boss', great, ties in with what reviewer said and then we get:
'..No stage 12, just a boss..a big, dirty, mean boss'.
Erm, but you've twice now described how poor the bosses are, so which is it?.
Quick bump:
MEGA review of Batman Returns 81% 'A strange breed of game. The platform bits are rubbish, but the driving game is the best i've ever played'Â (Paul Mellerick)
Dune 8/10 from EDGE
