Never been huge fan of the arcade game find it, along with Rainbow Islands to be hugely over-rated, but...having said that, i did own it on the C64.

Other versions 1st:

Speccy-great sprite definition and great music, but no backdrops, or colour and push scrolling? not so good....

CPC:The fake tan edition it looks like, colour, but it's too orangey (for crows? just me and my dwag..sorry..)and push scrolling again. This version made it to GAMEStm's Conversion Catastrophe feature (version you should have played:Amiga, ST, MD, MS, Spectrum, C64, Nes take your pick, but we'd probably stick with PC Engine).

C64:odd one, has great music, colour+backdrops, main sprite looks good in terms of sharp edges, but does'nt look like it's arcade counterpart and other sprites are tad messy, but technically easy win with Speccy coming in behind and CPC version being carted off....

Spectrum version is easily the best, it is easily the most playable of the 8-bit versions. The graphics may be monochrome but they do look nice and clean and the music is just fantastic.

Looks are not everything and the Spectrum version proves that, a win for gameplay.

The C64 version plays pretty well though, IIRC. Haven't tried the Spectrum version though. It does look a bit spartan but it looks as though it has a nice pace to it.

Never been a fan of 'push scrolling' myself on either the 8 Bit systems or ST, so i'd probably not have gotten on that well with the Speccy version had i played it at that time.Still not sure how or why i ended up buying a copy on C64 at the time, think it must have been on strength of the Zzap 64 review.

Know i did'nt rate it that much and tried game again years later on Amiga then in arcade, just to see what all the fuss was about, but came away thinking it was much like Rainbow Islands in the respect of not being my thing, much prefered the likes of Bubble Bobble and still do.

:-)

Which version had the cheat mode of holding a key whilst playing to reset to title screen then pressing M and then typing in:

MOTHERFUCKENKIWIWIBASTARD

Think it was the ST/Amiga, but not sure.

Console wise Game Zone gave the MS version 87% and the NES version 90% (and a Mega Zone award).
