It's ProjectY - the RPB you've been waiting for since the 90s! WIP @ 's Magical Game Factory.
The Origins
For the first time ever, fans of retro consoles are getting exactly the game they want! And they want a RPB!
Investors, as they are called, have used their voting power to shape ProjectY to their own liking.
Their first poll result was to make a game for the Mega Drive/Genesis. Then came the decision to make the game a RPB (Role-Playing-Brawler). The final big turn for the project was the setting, which the investors decided should be cyberpunk.
With these defining poll results, ProjectY started to take shape while additional minor polls followed. Development is currently ongoing; you can still join ProjectY and shape the game by voting, submitting your ideas and discussing the project on the boards!

40MEG
Obtained with fervor by the investors, we can guarantee the game will have a bare minimum 40 megabits cartridge. ProjectY is joining the small club of High Density Cartridges (also known as the "big, black cartridges"). This will be at least the second biggest Mega Drive/Genesis game ever, after WaterMelon's own Pier Solar! With this much storage at our disposal, we can make the ultimate 16-bit beat 'em all!
Also obtained by the investors, the game will feature four playable characters, one of them to be unlocked.

The Context
ProjectY takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, set in an Asian high-tech metropolis. The last survivors of the nuclear war are divided into several classes, where the most powerful have the others by the balls. This has divided the governing bodies into several fractions, where ethnic mafias and a corrupt corporation are just a few of them! As you can see, this story is filled with many possible scenarios. It will demand lots of exploring and several playthroughs to get everything out of it.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN AND INVEST?
How do I join a project?
If a project is open to join, you can join by investing at least one GEM into the project.
What are GEMS? How much do they cost?
GEMS are Watermelon's currency. As for now, one GEM is equal to 10 cents (USD) with the possibility of changing later on.
You can use GEMS to invest in a project. If you earn some GEMS, you can use them to get discounts on products, get coupons, etc.
What do I get for my investment in a project?
Magical Game Factory investments offer access to voting and conversion features.
How much do I have to invest to save myself one copy of the game?
500GEMS (USD 50) for one edition of the game reserved exclusively to Investors.

WOW! This sounds amazing, beat 'em ups are my favourite genre!
I will be all over this like a fly on shit when I have the money.
Very cool looking. I'm thinking I must have had an account when I bought Pier Solar but I don't remember :)
Great stuff in indeed, I will take a closer look tomorrow.
A bit of news:
We have a little video from an early demo of the game engine. Our coder Fonzie shows it. As it's just a tech demo don't mind the sprites from other games.
The final game should have about twice as many sprites on-screen.

On their website it has a release date of Mar.25th but I don't know how accurate that is.
That has to be one of the best looking mega drive games I've ever seen.. Incredible!!!

Now I need to add Pier SOlar and Project Y to my "Buy Now" List while I still can!
Quote from: "Jag_Slave"Now I need to add Pier SOlar and Project Y to my "Buy Now" List while I still can!
I'm doing the same but we have some time. Pier Solar can't be preordered until March and not sure of when Project Y can be preordered.

I bought Pier Solar a couple of runs ago and from what I understand they are waiting for enough pre-orders before making another run. http://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/factory/pier-solar_1/ (//http)Â As far as Project Y the pre-order stage is over but it will be available to purchase when it's done from their websiteÂ
Update time!
News about ProjectY, game is progressing: Now only two enemies sprites left to do! Game's gameplay now in sand-park mode to ensure all the moves are working as intended and now slowdown possible, next big step will be the enemies AI!
In the meant time, we have all our current sprites animations beefed-up to awesomeness, props to the PX team, special props to TIM.
Sound wise, a leak here:

Feedback on our boards!
Because the game is soon done, we would like to introduce you more to the investor's/GEMS mechanism.
As you know, you did (and you still can) invest gems into the project(s).
At one point, very soon, we will lock-down the investments and you will be able to convert your GEMS into the items of your choice.
Please visit this page:
http://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/fa ... /specials/ (http://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/factory/projecty_2/specials/)
And see the items you're eligible to.
We would like to point your attention to the fact, once the investments are locked down, no more GEMS can be added to the project.
Please make sure you have enough GEMS to get all the items you want ahead (Especially the investors-exclusive ones).
Note: If you have few left-over GEMS, they wont be lost, we will credit them back to your MGF account.
Thanks a lot for your support and patience! Any GEMS counts at this point!
For any questions, please contact the support at bottom of any MGF page.
WATERMELON TEAMVery happy I got in on this early, the investors edition sounds awesome!
There's also a post on their site saying that pre-orders for everyone else will start soonÂ
Thanks for posting the update. Did you get this by email?
Great news for all who supported them.
Quote from: "TrekMD"Thanks for posting the update. Did you get this by email?
Yes I did. I think they only sent it out to investors but if I hear anything else I will be sure to post it here.
Cool. Yes, do let us know of any other updates.Â
yes please do!
I missed out on this and really wanted to get on the list early.

Nice one fella.
Another update!
QuoteFirst, some news about the project.
At the moment, we are still inputing the enemy waves in the levels as well as adding the last features that really will push things beyond anything made before. In the meant time, tallented pixel artists (one even volunteering!) has been continuously improving the sprite's pixel art, for great justice.
QuoteRegarding game name, some people has questioned us about the lack of news regarding the game name or/and preview of the packaging so it's worth mentioning again:
For a small company like us, we can only copyright the game assets, packaging and name, at once, when it is finalized.
It will happen at same time we open preorders to public. Opening preorders will happen only once we are 100% fixed on a release date.
Waiting for copyright doesn't mean we don't work on the packaging: It's almost complete and it's outrageous. You will have a preview of it at the time you will pick your copies.
Sounds like it will still be a while but they are making progressÂ
Agreed!
A couple new screen shots, this is looking awesome!

Wow, that does look awesome!
I have to say the game reminds me a lot of borderlands with those colours.
Also..... Nice. (-;
It does look absolutely fantastic doesn't it.
I've been trying to keep up to date with this on the SEGA-16 forum. Still no word on release though, as far as I'm aware.
I'm assuming it will have a general release for non WM investors...?
That looks great!

One of the updates I received did mention pre-orders would open for non investors soon
More good news!
Wow. That will be my next home brew purchase for sure.
We have a gameplay trailer!

They also added this,
QuotePlease bear the technological gap that couldn't let us re-transcript the fixed 60 frames per second framerate, as it shows - and as it is - on real hardware.
Which I assume means the games runs at 60FPS but the video doesn't show that.
Awesome looking game
That looks excellent!Â
Looks awesome.. i assume thats the game music and that is awesome also.
